Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
People who wanted to buy the Dragon Boxes gave up (Blu-ray.com users) and decided to stick to the FUNi DBZ BD's.
It's a good alternative, but if they really wanted they should've bought them early as they came out.

FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
A possible Blue-ray release of the Dragon Boxes is their only salvation now...
These would be something I would even get right as they came out. I plan on buying a PS3, or
, a PS4, since it will be a long time until I could afford either, so having them on Blue-Ray, with better picture AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, better sound quality for the Japanese audio, these would be a must buy.

I don't see that ever coming about, it would just canibalize their sales of the level sets and the dragonboxes
Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
The Dragon Boxes have all but been completely sold. By spring of 2012, I bet you won't be able to find a single new one for a decent price.rs_chaosmaster wrote:I don't see that ever coming about, it would just canibalize their sales of the level sets and the dragonboxes
These level sets are aimed towards the funi-dub fans who want it for their big screen tv's and their surround sound super high-tech crap.
After their level sets are all released would be a good time for them to do a DBox Blue-ray release. But I do agree that we will probably never see this. All I'm waiting for now is Dragon Box: The Movies, to come out.
Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
No, they're aimed for Dragon Ball Z fans in general. If they weren't, they wouldn't include the Japanese audio.dprez wrote:These level sets are aimed towards the funi-dub fans who want it for their big screen tv's and their surround sound super high-tech crap.

Sadly, as far as we know, the Dragon Boxes were only remastered in 480p.

Yes i see the next release being a reanimated version of Z done by Toei and in 3d in all honesty. Hopefully I am wrong because that means they will get more money of mine :'(!!! Id rather they do a new dragonball series then rerelease the Dragon Boxes on Blu Ray!!!

The Japanese audio is crap compared to the English audio on these level sets, just like in the dragon boxes. Plus the english voice actors signatures are on the inside of the box. If that crap was on my Dragon Boxes, I'd be pissed...
Since the remastering job is not the same as the Dragon Box masters, this is not a release for fans of the original who want that in it's best quality. It's made so that the english version is superior, and can be watched at it's highest quality on the most high-tech entertainment devices by fans of the Funi-Dub and Faulconers score. Still the same crappy orange brick picture quality, but just a blue-ray version. So a little better but still, the Japanese version was yet again just a plus for the minority of original dub fans, just like it was for the orange bricks.
The DragonBoxes are still the best release of the pure, original and unaltered Japanese version in the states.
Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
And it's about as good as it'll ever sound, because that mono mix is all they have. They can just magically make it sound better. I've said this before, if they didn't intend for Japanese fans to watch it, they wouldn't have included the audio and subtitles. And it doesn't have to be aimed at fans of the Faulconer score. It DEFAULTS to the dub with the Japanese music, and it's a higher quality mix than the dub music. I don't get why people automatically think dub fan = Faulconer fan.dprez wrote:The Japanese audio is crap compared to the English audio on these level sets, just like in the dragon boxes. Because for most people who prefer the english voices, they also prefer Faulconers score.Pokewhiz7 wrote:And it's about as good as it'll ever sound, because that mono mix is all they have. Yea, I guess all they had for the Japanese audio was mono, but these level sets are still aimed for fans of the english version, while the dragon boxes are aimed for fans of the original. Even though the level sets are in blue-ray, IMO they are still inferior to the dragon boxes Japanese version.
Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
Do you have a source for this? Because I'm pretty sure, a) most fans aren't even aware of the multiple soundtracks, they just watch the show. Maybe not here, but find a few Dragon Ball Z fans in the wild, and ask them who Bruce Faulconer is. And also, b) if that were true, they would default to the dub with dub music track, and it wouldn't be stereo, it would be in 5.1 and the dub with Japanese score would be in stereo.dprez wrote:Because for most people who prefer the english voices, they also prefer Faulconers score.
Other than title cards, credits, and next episode previews, which I don't care about, the level sets are superior in every way.dprez wrote:Yea, I guess all they had for the Japanese audio was mono, but these level sets are still aimed for fans of the english version, while the dragon boxes are aimed for fans of the original. Debating DBox vs. Blu-Rays aside, either you're uninformed or this is an out-and-out lie.dprez wrote:[Still the same crappy orange brick picture quality, but just a blue-ray version.

I strongly disagree the level sets are great don't get me wrong but, the experience from the Dragon Box is something extremely special!! In addition to awesome full color episode books having the previews, Title cards, etc adds to the experience and how DBZ was meant to be viewed!!! Honestly I prefer the Dragon Box colors to the level sets. But the level sets have a huge advantage over the dragon boxes, since they are on Blu Ray you really have to try to damage then to ruin the set while the dragon boxes a couple scratches on the disc and they could be ruined :'(

Sadly, the Level sets have better picture. Even though I'm fine with DBoxes, in terms of picture, they are beaten by the Level sets, and in terms of audio, they are beaten by the original broadcast.rs_chaosmaster wrote:I strongly disagree the level sets are great don't get me wrong but, the experience from the Dragon Box is something extremely special!! Well, Lance said on the latest ANNCast that they have still to decide if Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT will get Dragon Boxes.

I've already told you, as far as we know, the Dragon Boxes were only done at 480p. And since Kai was a flop, I dunno if they'd make a new remaster...dprez wrote:o i pray for a DragonBox blue-ray release.

I also pray for a DBox BR, but even if it has the true colors, I doubt they will put the true audio quality, if FUNi ever do this. Now, if Toei ever do this, I think the true audio is possible, but the impossible is that Toei will actualy do this...dprez wrote:o i pray for a DragonBox blue-ray release.

Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
Actually, it's "Blu-ray". Yes, people, there's a hyphen and only one capital letter.dballfan wrote:I'm sorry but 1.1 is the best quality available...And is definitely not the "same crappy orange brick quality" And its Blu Ray not Blue-Ray
As for being the best release that's down to opinion and what you prefer - would you rather a more collectable set and one with all the content, if so than yes it is. But. for the best quality it is 1.1.
Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
Well, the Dragon Boxes will work for when I'm watching by myself, but these level sets seam like they would be perfect when watching with a bunch of people.
Some of my friends would complain in the past when watching the orange bricks, " Sorry bro, I know it's better in Japanese, but it's so hard to watch when trying to read subtitles". So this "Blu-ray" version, with it's optimum video/audio quality, would work wonderfully when in a room with a big flat screen and a kik-ass sound system, with a bunch of people at a party or w/e.
It's just lame they are releasing them the way they are, with the 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, ect...it'll take until 2015 to complete the set!
The DragonBoxes are my baby's, but these level sets would be the preferred method of watching with others who want to/must/can only watch it in english, but of course, with the japanese audio.
