I was gonna say it's a possible announcement date, but those Slayers DVDs have already been announced by FUNimation, so apparently it isn't.

This is really odd, Funimation going to a nostalgic release, right after the puritan/hardcore Dragon Boxes release and the Kai DVDs and Blurays. As someone who watches DBZ exclusively in Japanese... they got me, I want this, I grew up with this dub and to own it would be great, considering the other dubs that I own just for the hell of it.

I just hope this leads to the movies coming out, then maybe more Dragon Box releases, maybe finish up DBZ on Bluray?

If FUNimation does officially announce it, I wonder if there would be any special features.

I honestly doubt it. unless there is some behind the scenes stuff which I also doubt. we'll be flying if this is uncut and not edited together. but if it is I'll still get it. I probably wont sell my original DVDs of ocean even if this is real.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

What do you mean by uncut? It's the Ocean dub of the Saiyan arc, of course it's cut. The only thing I want to see that wasn't on the singles is all the NEPs and recaps. Also, I wonder if the first four episodes will play as one long feature like in the singles, or will it be separated.

What I mean was could there be an uncut dialog that didn't make it to television or on the edited DVDs..you know? Uncut.. like how Nicktoons got Kai but a few of the dialog scenes were re-written for it. but on the DVDs/Blu-rays it was ''uncut'' no editing of the blood, punches, swear words.

The only "Uncut" dialogue they could possibly include would be the references to death in the first 2 episodes that were in the very first broadcast of those episodes before switching to the more common dialogue we know of.

It would need redubbing for it to be unedited. Don't see that happening. Especially since they probably wouldn't be able to get all the previous voice actors to return.

"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

Redubbing, or:
A) Use Japanese audio with English subs for the scenes which were removed
B) Use FUNimation's English Z or Kai dubs

Either way, not very consistent this way. The redub would have to be just like the voices were back then so it wouldn't clash.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

This is what I want to know. WIll it be this, or just a transfer from the singles?

I doubt we'll get special features, but given the nature of the release, a nice 20 minute feature explaining what the hell this is and its significance would be nice. Some might not even be aware of this era in Dragon Ball history.

Didn't the old Pioneer release of Arrival keep in the reference to death? I'm sure Raditz says that Gohan "will have a death worthy of a Saiyan" or something like that.

That sounds familiar, but Roshi's line "I smell death in the air," and Chichi saying "I'm gonna worry myself to death" were changed for the VHS/DVD

That reference to death was never altered for whatever reason. I remember that line since I started watching the Ocean cast dub on Toonami in '98.

The other reference to death that was never altered was during the fake Namek mini arc when Bulma says, "If I fall and die..." Ironically, the original line makes no reference to death (if I'm recalling it correctly).

The first two episodes had their references to death removed. Episode's 3 and 4 kept theirs for some inexplicable reason.

Hopefully they won't be just a simple transfer of the singles if they are FUNi will probably hear complains out the ass about the video quality.
ABED wrote:I doubt we'll get special features, but given the nature of the release, a nice 20 minute feature explaining what the hell this is and its significance would be nice.
I agree FUNi should have enough decency to do at least that much since most people might not know what this release is.
ABED wrote:Some might not even be aware of this era in Dragon Ball history.
Older fans probably already know about this era in DB's history in America since they lived through it, newer fans on the other hand unless they've done their research beforehand, your probably right and chances they aren't aware of the Saban era of DBZ in the U.S.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).
