Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.
I posted my collection in this thread sometime in the year 2006...needless to say, it's expanded a bit since then Here we go!
DVDs:
CDs:
Obligatory Daizenshuu shot:
Vegeta poster signed by Ryou Horikawa:
Battle of Gods promo poster:
Magnets (also, Boo is holding onto my Battle of Gods tickets ):
The plushie chair is out of control:
Battle of Gods mouse pad with raised wrist support (kinda wish they went with the oppai style, except since this is Dragon Ball it would be a man's muscly pecs rather than a woman's boobs ):
That special Gokuu picture that came with the Battle of Gods special edition release:
And now for my overpacked shelves. Starting with a faraway shot, then some closeups of the relevant Dragon Ball stuff:
Dragon Ball tankoubon 1-42, Journey to the West styled keychains, Trunks figures, Gokuu figures:
Vegeta figures (being my favorite character, his figures easily fill 2 shelves!):
Additional character figures:
Even more figures, some sound drop keychains, those ugly ass Burger King toys, and a few more Dragon Ball guidebooks hiding out on the bottom shelf (Landmark, Forever, Tenkaichi Densetsu, Son Gokuu Densetsu, and GT Perfect Files)
Battle of Gods bottles from KFC (thanks to a friend who was living in Japan at the time and picked them up for me!):
A cool figure set that builds up into a whole diorama:
Apparently I have some of these single issue comics lying around:
Assorted random additional items (I have 3 scouters? How did I end up with that many? )
Did someone say...doujinshi?
Did someone say...even more doujinshi?
Did someone say...holy shit, I have no memory of owning this many doujinshi?!
In my defense...they're not all porn. Though I did have to turn a few books over and show the back cover to keep the pics from being too NSFW
Well, that's the bulk of my collection! I know there are even more random items lying around, but I just took pics of whatever things were easiest to find. I don't even want to torture myself by trying to estimate how much I've spent on merchandise for this series over the years...

sailorspazz You've got an amazing collection buddy. I love the Donkey Kong and Trigun figures as well!
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128 Still recording Toonami broadcasts on VHS after all these years! #1 Paikuhan fan!
Finally found the motivation to clear my shelf and get my stuff together. This isn't everything I have, but it's my main collection. Not the biggest, but everything I need (for now, anyway.)
From the top: All of the Japanese Dragon Boxes (and the Piccolo and Goku figures that came with them), the Special Selection DVD, the special Saikyo Jump DVD, Japanese BOG Special Edition Blu-ray, the first Japanese Kai Blu-ray Box, all 34 Kanzenban, Jaco Kanzenban, all 42 tankōbon, Jaco tankōbon, Episode of Bardock Kanzenban, all 20 Full Colors, Viz's Sandland and Cowa graphic novels, Dragon Ball SD tankōbon 1&2, FUNi's DB Season 1, FUNi's DB Saga sets, all 7 of FUNi's Dragon Boxes, FUNi's GT singles, FUNi's movie/TV special singles for all 3 series, all 8 of FUNi's Kai Part Blu-rays.
Okay, so I'm pretty sure I've never actually posted any of my junk here, partially because I was holding off until I could get the rest of my figures/toys/etc. out of storage, and put them somewhere on display in my room. That took quite a while due to where they were, but I was finally able to get them back again, and as such, I decided to do an all out assault of pictures to put up. Now, I don't claim to be any sort of photographer, so take the pictures as you will, please. ^_^; I'll also be putting them into spoiler tags because there's quite a few of them, and because they're going to be quite large (this camera takes pictures at an insane size as it is, and even scaling them down after the fact...). Expect a rather large post too, unfortunately.
First up, is the main part of my collection, which is of course the show itself. And yes, I know...I severely need to re-organize my shelf, due to how much both of them are bending a bit, not to mention the poor state of the manga below. ^_^;
Spoiler:
For the entirety of Dragon Ball, I've got the Season Sets. For DBZ I had all of them, but I recently got rid of the unneeded 'Season One', as I have Dragon Box One to fill that gap. If the episodes juxtaposed properly I could get rid of one or two more too, as I also have Dragon Box Five (not in this picture), but the episodes just don't line up right unfortunately. GT is also in the Season Sets. Say what you will about the Season Sets in general, but at least I'm able to own the entire franchise this way.
Moving on to Kai, that's the real clusterfuck of my collection. I've got regular FUNi Parts One and Two; Wal-mart combo sets for Parts Three & Four, and Five & Six. They never did a combo set like that for Seven/Eight, so I'll have to get Season Four proper to finish it up...and who knows what the Boo Kai sets will be like. I repeat, Kai is the very definition of a clusterfuck.
Then moving on to the movies, I've got the FUNi re-release single for DB movie 1, and the old box set for movies 2-4. All of the Z movies and specials I have via the steelcase Double Features, which unfortunately seem to be rusting somehow or another.
In front of all that, are my 'excess' DVDs that I've kept for various reasons. Dragon Ball Evolution...just because; the old Hero's Legacy single for the 'Top Ten Attacks' thing; the first Broly single for the Legacy of Goku II featurette; and the first UUE single for the Goku V.S. Vegeta documentary.
There are two more DVDs that aren't currently pictured above.
Spoiler:
The CD case for the Return of Cooler single was technically seen above, but you couldn't tell what it was. I forget how I got this as I never bought the DVD, which is why it doesn't have a case, but I've kept it solely for some interviews on the disc that were never put anywhere else; and then there's Dragon Box 5 that usually just sits on top of everything.
Moving on from the anime, there's what little of the manga I have. I'm hoping to finally start collecting more of it in the near future, because this is just pitiful.
Spoiler:
Also pictured is my few Dr. Slump volumes, for the heck of it. I also have the single for Dragon Ball: Volume 1, but we'll get to that in a bit; and I used to have the first DBZ volume too. I think I gave that to my girlfriend after I got the first Z VizBig. Dragon Ball: Volume 16 holds a special place in my heart as not only the first Dragon Ball manga volume I ever purchased, but the first manga I ever purchased/read period!
Next up, the video games! Nothing else to really say about most of those, so I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves this time.
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
The Shen Long joystick-pad is one of those TV plugin games. I don't even know if it still works, but if it does, it has a fighting game; a Dragon Ball stealing game that's essentially pong; and (oddly enough the best game on it), pinball!
Spoiler:
There's a couple of posters on my wall too.
Spoiler:
The top one is the Taiketsu poster of course; the bottom two came in certain issues of Shonen Jump. I have no idea what ones though as I never actually had those issues, the posters were given to me by a friend.
Next up - TOYS. Toys, toys, toys, oh dear god when did I end up with so many toys.
Spoiler:
Might be a little hard to see, but going from left to right are - Piccolo and Gotenks screaming 'Baka!' at each other; 'golden' Android 18 with Mr. Satan in a chokehold; Majin Vegeta saying goodbye to his son; Goku holding up Goten and saying goodbye to him; possibly bootlegged Gotenks; 'gold' Ultimate Gohan backhanding Super Boo; Super Vegito with Super Boohan stuck on the Spirit Sword; Gohan telling Videl his idea about her getting a haircut; and Mr. Boo chilling with Mr. Satan and Bee. And a lot of other non-Dragon Ball stuff. Oh, and you can't really tell, but that's a Dragon Ball shoved all the way in the back in the left too.
Spoiler:
An overall look at my dresser top where more figures await.
Spoiler:
A closer look where you can see Piccolo and Freeza from an old Burger King tie-in; another Burger King tie-in Piccolo; a mini Kaio-sama (now missing his antenna sadly) from a quarter machine; and part of what I like to call 'Booby Broly' making a slight appearance.
Spoiler:
A better look at 'Booby Broly' as I call him, because those pecs are in no way muscles - I highly suspect this figure to be bootleg. Next to him is another possible bootleg of Kid Trunks; and two different Burger King tie-in toys of Kuririn.
Spoiler:
A slightly grungy Kid Kuririn from a quarter machine (good god this stuff was in storage for too long), a possibly bootlegged Super Saiyan Vegeta, Goku from this old handheld game I used to have, and a tiny Dragon Ball sits next to the Yeerk on top of the container.
Spoiler:
A better look at my 'Goku in Space Suit' figure, the only If Labs toy I've ever had. It looks pretty nice, but overall, I wasn't as impressed with it as I thought I was in the old commercials.
Spoiler:
These two aren't on a shelf (they don't wanna stand up, and I ran out of room on the dresser anyway), but they're the two old walkie talkies that you could get. Freeza seems to have lost his tail, poor guy.
Next up are some miscellaneous books I've got that I don't keep with my manga at the moment.
Spoiler:
My original single volume for Dragon Ball: Volume One, and 'Dragon Ball Z: An Unauthorized Guide', pictured from the back as the front cover is sadly long gone. Why do I keep this original single volume despite having the VizBig it's also in, you ask? ...Because it's uncut, baby!
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
Two 'How to Draw' books that I got from book orders when in school, plus some kind of activity book from the same place. The Budokai 3 Strategy Guide was a gift I got from rs_chaosmaster in the 'Free to a Good Home' thread! Thanks again man!
Spoiler:
My poor old Pojo's guide...it was so much a 'bible' to me in regards to Dragon Ball, that I literally read it to death. No, LITERALLY.
Spoiler:
READ. TO. DEATH.
Spoiler:
This was the very first Shonen Jump I ever bought, as well as being amongst the first times I realized we were actually getting manga here as well as anime. I've kept it mostly because of that, but it does have Dragon Ball on the cover and in it's pages.
Now we delve even further into stuff that has no place to go but into storage in the closet, and the next set of pictures, of which there are too many, are a bit...odd, I'll admit. Okay...the long and short of it is that when I was a much younger fan, I would often cut out Dragon Ball related advertisements and...well, use them for cheap posters to go on my wall. Because of that, I still have a fairly decent sized collection of old game and DVD ads. For whatever reason, I can't bring myself to just chuck them either.

Spoiler:
Good lord, I even had one for the Dr. Slump manga!
And one final set of pictures (for now), the old VHS collection. For these, there are a few that I intentionally didn't take pictures of, because they weren't official release VHS tapes; they were tapes I used to tape the franchise off of TV. I also could have swore I had at least one Freeza Saga tape and another Androids one, and I know I also used to have a DVD single for the very end of Z...but I can't remember what became of those. At any rate, here's the old tape collection that makes me remember exactly why I was so happy when an affordable and shelf-space-conscious DVD box set line was announced.
The final tape there is a fansub tape a friend gave me with, what the fansubber decided anyway, the entire Super 17 Saga (episodes 42-47). I assume they lumped episode 41, the tournament episode, in with the Baby Saga.
Spoiler:
A better look at the fansub tape, for historical purposes, since I'm gonna make an educated guess that the site listed is no longer around. Maybe someone from back in the fansub days knows what group was responsible for this tape?
Spoiler:
One last look at the fansub tape.
Spoiler:
MOVIES/SPECIALS Dragon Ball
Curse of the Blood Rubies (movie 1)
Dragon Ball Z
Lord Slug (movie 4)
Cooler's Revenge (movie 5)
The Return of Cooler (movie 6)
Bojack Unbound (movie 9)
Broly: Second Coming (movie 10)
Bardock: The Father of Goku (TV special 1)
The History of Trunks (TV special 2)
...Pheeeewwwww...that about wraps it up. There's one last set of things that I know I own, but 1) I think this is a god-awful large enough post already, 2) I'm exhausted from putting this together all day, and 3) I really need to re-organize them first before I can really show them off. So hopefully you got...something...somehow...out of this. I know I felt pretty nostalgic looking over the VHS tapes at least.
Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go collapse in a corner from doing way too much moving stuff around/typing up ONE post for today.

Felt like taking a picture of my Dragonball/Anime stuff haha not much but It's my little stash.

A friend was messing with my magnets and decided to rearrange them this way. I considered repositioning them before taking the picture, but decided to just leave them as they were and see if anyone noticed
And Gyt Kaliba, don't feel weird about saving ads/packaging! I remember saving a TMNT cereal box for many years when I was little; I would, for no apparent reason, repeatedly read everything written on that box to the point where I had it all memorized!
...OK, that definitely sounds weird But just know you're not the only one who has an attachment to such things. I still keep some random boxes from merchandise I own. And I think your ad pages are cool, they're a piece of history that might otherwise be lost!
