Making up some voice isn't too bad, though maintaining it can be a challenge if it's new.
The biggest cause of the difference is that you hear your voice differently than other people do. If I remember correctly, this has to do with your voice vibrating inside your skull, or something of the sort (I'm not awake enough yet to explain it right :P) Basically, if you have a decent microphone, the recording and the way other people hear you shouldn't be too big of a difference.

But! Freeza's new voice. The more I listen to it, the more I think "WAZZZPINATORRRRR! TERRORIZE!"

(Ironically, the voices in Beast Wars were performed by some of the same actors as the Ocean dub of DBZ.)

Definitely sounded like the Ocean voice the first time I heard it, but I've been listening to it again and again and it gets better each time. The laugh is just so creepy it's good. I just want to hear more of it to really judge, and to see how the other forms will sound.

This new Freeza voice sounds absolutely nothing like Young in any way shape or form. So far there is only subtle similarities to Newstone, and that's only in the "serpentine rasp". The delivery and voice itself is about as different as you can get. Even the DBZ abridged Freeza sounds like a dandy compared to the sinister tone of this. The more I listen to it, the more excited I get to hear more.

I guess the new voice will grow on me, but it's definitely gonna take some time... I say that because, well, even though it was only one sentence, I felt that it sounded as if Newstone fused with Young. It does sound male, though, which I'm okay with. Of course, this Chris Ayres guy still ain't gonna be on the same level of awesomness that was in fact Linda Young, and that's the damn truth.

Well, when said nay-sayer continues to polute the fanbase over and over with the same drivel all the time, it's only natural that Schemmel threw his own two cents in. I Probably wouldn't wanna meet his ultimate hater in person, as it'd probably get ugly between me and him.

Listen to Freeza's new dub voice and then visualize him later when he starts to get pissed or irritated.

I think his voice will go deeper and be perfectly appropriate... and creepy.

The delivery I agree with, but I dunno the voice sounds like Newstone Freeza got a frog out of his throat.

I'm just saying I think they sound alike.

Yes, at times he had a subtle rasp that sounded like Newstone, while other deliveries showed a completely new kind of voice. He said about eight words, not one, so I was able to pick up things. It's not that difficult if you pay attention.

And you don't think you're looking into a single line too much? Like examining each word?

What's wrong being able to actually hear subtleties in acting and line delivery? Like for example, Chris's laugh when compared to Newstone, which is CONSIDERABLY different. Newstone in that scene, made Freeza laugh in a more typical MUAHAHAA bad guy laugh, Linda was guilty of this too in pretty much all her laughs.

However, through his better acting and delivery, what I heard with the new laugh was more on the side of a chuckle, a evil semi-loud chuckle, but a chuckle none the less. We all know Freeza is known to chuckle more often than to full on laugh, it may not of been ohohohoh, but eh, it was creepy, and it was a chuckle, good enough.

To say I'm proud of the whole thing isn't accurate, because despite what some may think, I'm not out to piss anyone off. But it is amusing that he took my criticism so personally amongst a sea of devout followers. I guess it's human nature. The real amusing part, though, was that he publically singled me out.
Uh, no. You kept saying "Mr. Schemmel, I just don't like it."

He was asking why you thought he was so "fucking terrible" at singing and voice acting.
There's no doubt that by being a public figure, particularly of the artistic/entertainer variety, you have to have a thick skin and try to let things roll off your shoulders. For both your own blood pressure and your time. Otherwise you'll spend hours each day being pissed off at all the guys talking shit about you. It's just going to happen that people aren't going to like what you're selling and some of the time they'll say so in abrasive ways. That might be because they're just abrasive people or it might be because it's easy to disassociate ourselves from the target of our criticism when they aren't face to face. I can say here that I think Jimmy Fallon is one of the worst cast members SNL ever had but if I ever ran into the guy I'd be pretty reluctant to say that to his face in those words. Not because I don't think it's true but because I don't like embarrassing people, particularly in a public setting.

Penguintruth pretty much did just that. I'm sure not intentionally. I don't think anybody posts on a message board that somebody sucks specifically intending for those comments to be read by the target. It's not like he posted it on Sean's Facebook wall. But given the public setting (which I think we all sometimes forget the internet is), and the abrasive delivery, it's pretty reasonable for Sean to think "WTF? This jerk has an axe to grind." It might not be "professional" to confront the detractor but it's human. Likewise I don't think Sean intended to single out Penguintruth over the probably hundreds of other people who might think he sucks. He just singled him out in that situation because those were the posts that he saw.

There's an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Ray confronts a radio host who doesn't like him. The confrontation at the end is sort of similar to what I'm seeing here.

I never once thought it sounded like Linda Young and can't understand why people are hearing her in Ayres's line. I still can't not hear Pauline Newstone in it, though, no matter how hard I try. Yes, one line and all. I'll see if I still think that on Monday. But I can say hearing the two side by side that while the voices sound damn near identical to me, Ayres's performance of the line was much better, even without taking into account the script differences.

I just wonder what Freeza's new voice is up to?

Erm anyway, I'm psyched to hear more of that voice on Monday. I want to hear him smugly taunt some Namekians. It will be there that I will form an opinion on if this is a good choice or not. If nothing else this voice will really sound cool when matched up with his 3rd form.

When Canadians or Americans try to imitate a British dialect, it generally isn't good. Paul Dobson however was pretty good at it. His Zarbon did not have an Australian dialect, it was closer to a British dialect but I wouldn't say it was spot on. I give him credit for pronouncing certain words correctly (such as Can't; the a is pronounced like the a in Gohan.) Kevin Kline did a pretty good Australian (with a bit of New Zealand) dialect imitation for his character Rod McCain in Fierce Creatures, Paul's Zarbon does not sound like that.

Not at all, this is what forums are for, having intelligent debates over stuff like this. It's much more agreeable over "this sucks, but I won't explain why" opinions.
