Is it known what the background voices are saying in Zenkai Power before the first chorus starts? All I can make out is something that sounds like "ginga l'bah!", which are also the last words of the song.
This is classic Tammy

Announcer: As Ma Junior gives up, Shin has become the winner by default!
Random dude: What's this? Why'd this happen.... Has he became weak?
Goku: Is he really that....?
Piccolo: Yeah... His level...
Kuririn: He's kidding, right? Stop with the jokes! I have to fight him next....
Announcer: Well let's keep moving on! Next is the third match, between Videl and Spopovich!

Can anyone translate this?

I'm guessing that annoying symbol in the numbers is to clarify 100 million or something?

Perhaps the reason that Viz changed the last sentence to "Vegeta did that too and he fell!" was because they thought that including "pointless" twice was redundant.TripleRach wrote:Kekeke, that's pointless!! Vegeta did that too and it was pointless!!

Well, I just wanted to point out with that image that Babidi clearly see what Vegeta did as different from Gohan.

Well...not necessarily. There's no real need for him to mention Gohan. He could just compare him to Vegeta, who he knows is dead and was about as strong as Goku.Fox666 wrote:Well, I just wanted to point out with that image that Babidi clearly see what Vegeta did as different from Gohan.

Also It's not like Gohan left any lasting impression on Babidi or anything. He didn't even know his name did he?

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Could someone translate for me this page? It comes from "The Brief Return of Dr. Slump".

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Could someone translate the text in this;
http://i44.tinypic.com/3532p2s.jpg
It's just that the Viz says;
'The confidence of Gotenks!!!
Who's the strongest in the universe?!!'
It doesn't make clear if the second part is a direct quotation from Gotenks or a rhetorical question.

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
It's just a chapter title. "Chapter 489: Confident Gotenks!!" That's all the text in the scan (other than "Dragon Ball"), and I assume that's a kanzenban scan.FNF wrote:Could someone translate the text in this;

Luckily for you, I own the old tankoubon version (what Viz would've used), which also has, "Will the greatest in the universe be decided?!!!" It's a rhetorical line to hype the chapter, and most of the title pages in the tankoubon had lines like that.

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Thank you. I thought the other line might have just been above the picture on the scan I posted but it was taken out for the Kanzenban for some odd reason.TripleRach wrote: It's just a chapter title. But it's interesting that they put that there. It sounds like SSjin3 Gotenks is what was being foreshadowed there (strongest in the universe yada yada). Either way it looks as if Evil Boo and Gotenks were definetely being hyped up as the top 2 in the universe at this point.
Also if it's possible can you tell me what it says on the Tankoubon version of the Gohan vs Evil Boo title page?
My Viz says;
'Gohan's counter attack!!!
The ultimate power-up!!!'
Is this where the name 'Ultimate Gohan' is derived from?

"Behold Gohan with the ultimate power-up!!" or "Behold ultimately powered-up Gohan!!"
I don't know if this is the specific origin of "Ultimate Gohan," but it's possible. I'm not sure if those hype lines were in the Weekly Jump issues, but this tankoubon (41) with the line was first published June 7th, 1995, and I believe that predates all of the Daizenshuu. I don't think there were any games that used the term before that, either. It could've been used by the anime narrator before that (since he had already premiered on TV by then), but that would take a while to check.
