Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
I use to watch the Saturday Sci-Fi channel anime block and they had some late night showings of anime when I was 6-8 years old.

To be honest I think the hard distinction between Adult Swim and everything else on CN exists more to counteract against easily offended parents by making it seem like the "adult" shows are sectioned off from everything else. I remember as a kid I was just as interested in Adult Swim as I was in any other Cartoon Network block, if not moreso.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:Loads of kids already watch Adult Swim. More than any show on Disney XD or Nicktoons.
Let me see... AHA! Here it is!
Time PROGRAM Viewers (000) A1849 rating A1849 (000)
12:00a Dragon Ball Z Kai 1426 0.61 777
If this is correct then about...649.000 viewers below the age of 18 watch Toonami. That's more than can be said for Pokemon, Yokai Watch, and even big hits like Star Vs The Forces of Evil and Star Wars Rebels.

Do you have that gif saved in a folder called "anytime anyone mentions DBS and UK"Lord Beerus wrote:Don't remind me...Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Subtitled Super eps on the same day too! DB overload haha.Lord Beerus wrote: Talk about killing two birds with one stone. But I have a funny feeling that going from Super to a crappy re-cut of DBZ's Majin Boo arc might make for a jarring viewing experience for some fans. Either way, fantastic news. 2017 is gonna be one hell of a year for us Dragon Ball fans.
Shame the UK will miss out

Anyway Toonami was always going to be the fail safe. Unfortunately here in the UK we don't have that, well our fail safe is technically home video, but broadcast wise we got nothing. Maybe FUNiUK can sort some streaming stuff out or maybe Sky might take it considering they did the movies but idk.

Interesting fact: French dub of DB Super premiers on the 17th of January on Toonami in France. Wonder how big of a TV deal Toonami's stroken?

Super is pretty tame violence-wise compared to Z, so both airings being uncut is perfectly conceivable. The only other thing is language, but hell and damn are fine, and shit is spread so far and few between that it probably won't get noticed, or the scriptwriters will just know not to put it in there at all.

Toonami actually doesn't censor "shit", but it's said so rarely anyway I don't think it matters. I doubt they'll even put "shit" in the DBS dub, but they've done it at least twice in One Piece so who knows.funrush wrote:...shit is spread so far and few between that it probably won't get noticed, or the scriptwriters will just know not to put it in there at all.

Crap and Shit are pretty interchangeable so as long as they don't use Poo like the #69 subs did it should be fine.Footlong Shoe wrote:Toonami actually doesn't censor "shit", but it's said so rarely anyway I don't think it matters. Yep. Anytime someone mentions the subject that's my default response until a miracle happens and Super airs in the UK uncut.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Do you have that gif saved in a folder called "anytime anyone mentions DBS and UK"Lord Beerus wrote:Don't remind me...Baggie_Saiyan wrote: Subtitled Super eps on the same day too! At least they are starting during the start of the new year. I guess we should be at the U6 Tournament by the end of the summer or maybe by the end of the year.

Guldo says it
Shame; if they only got one "Shit" I would've rather it had gone to Cell

Shit's perfectly fine on Toonami, but I'm talking about the 8PM airing when elementary school kids might still be watching. I feel like they'd want to avoid parents complaining about that airing right after Steven Universe or something. I doubt it'd be a concern but I feel like it's still something to address when it comes to airing the dub entirely uncut.Footlong Shoe wrote:Toonami actually doesn't censor "shit", but it's said so rarely anyway I don't think it matters. They wont, its Adult Swim, Jason de Marco has already said no edits will be made. Dragon Ball Kai already aired uncut at that time. There's literally nothing to be worried about.

So, I apologize in advance, because I know this info is on the thread already, but there seems to be a lot of back-and-forth, so I figured I'd I'd just ask for clarification in one post.
If I understand the situation correctly...both Dragon Ball Super and the Buu arc of Kai will be airing on Toonami starting January 7th. In both cases, the airings will be uncut. However, FUNimation (or somebody who would know) has said that they've recorded an edited version of the Super dub. FUNimation clarified that they have recorded an edited dub in case they get a TV deal with a network or time slot aimed more at kids, but that they don't expect that the edited version of the dub will ever actually be used.
Is my understanding correct?

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I'm sure funimation as a company don't care if it gets used or not, but Sabat and I'm sure most of the other actors and staff who personally work on the show would much rather it didn't
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
The only dub edit I can see them doing is removing the line where Goku grabs the Octopus king's "penis" when he shakes one of his tentacles in the tournament.

Did anyone notice that "Season 1" of FUNimation's DBSuper is supposed to have only 26 episodes?
Are they combining two episodes or leaving one out? I'd assume that they are getting to Episode 27, as it is the end of RoF.

That's just standard "Season" length for most showsChiefWamsutta wrote:TheBlackPaladin wrote:Awesome, thanks for clarifying, AzuraRacon!AzuraRacon wrote:

Seems like Toei uses that system for their shows despite them being done Year-round and not having actual seasons, so sometimes episodes that conclude major arcs can end up on separate seasons
Happened with Kai, too, with the exact same villain
Frieza gets cut in half in the last episode of season 2, but Goku doesn't actually blow him up until the first of season 3
I've got a feeling Funimation will pick up the second batch of 26 episodes the literal second Toei lets them
