I really liked this shot from the NEP. It seems that the next episode will look really cool and there will be a fight in it.

IDK, the Luffy-esque facial structure on a 40+ year-old muscle-bound man doesnt work too well, That nose looks incredibly flat, the mouth is drawn off to the side of the face, which looks weird, and to top it all off Sweet Mother of God, that eye brow is HUGE.

I'm excited for next episode. Hopefully we can finally get a mostly non-action episode that isn't stiff and jank in the non-fighting parts.

The art in this episode was bad IMO, mostly Goku, Vegeta and Beerus faces

I think Goku looks good here actually. Don't know what you mean about Luffy-esque facial structure. Examples would be appreciated.

I think I know what you're talking about, but that isn't actually fan art (or at least the original isn't), it's from Battle of Gods when Goku and Beerus are staring each other down, someone just placed them side by side.

I'm talking about this one. I always thought it was a good fanart.

Yeah, I think that was from the movie.

You say all of that but, I still think it looks badass. Goku looks like he's ready to fuck shit up

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

I don't know what you mean by Luffy facial structure, but Goku is supposed to look like he's still in his 20s.
His eyebrow is pretty normal for a side shot;
Image
And drawing the noses without a curve is kinda part of Yamamuro's models and almost everyone on the show does it, but it's also not like it's something that wasn't done in the past:

And the mouth isn't drawn to the side of the face, it's just isn't a full line connecting to the lips, which is pretty common in anime.

That is just typical yashima. They focused on zamasu this episode, his shots were the ones most corrected.

Thats because of other animators in that episode. This one was a solo.

Yashima can't draw Vegeta's eyes. That's why him and Trunks look like shit in his episodes.

I think that shot of Vegeta would actually look okay if his pupils were smaller (and not looking in different directions), his hair was drawn right and some tweaks to the nose were made.

Pretty meh episode in terms of animation, but it wasn't bad either.

What are you talking about?? Goku always looked like that (eyebrows, nose and mouth). There's no such thing as "Luffy-esque facial structure" in that shot.

Episode 58

Image

Animation Supervisor
Yashima Yoshitaka

Key animator
Yashima Yoshitaka

2nd key animator
Yokoyama Miyuki (and TAP for inbetweens)

-

As I said yesterday, despite being a solo-animated episode by Yashima, you can see that the chief supervisor Miyako Tsuji played a big part in this episode. He handled a large majority of close-ups.

It's fairly easy to tell the difference between the two. Tsuji mostly draws noses at a right angle from the front, whereas Yashima's is more rounded. Tsuji's ears are very round and bulbous, and Yashima's are a little more pointy with 'separated' earlobes.

Yokoyama's input was very interesting. I wasn't particularly familiar with her work, but she's clearly a very capable artist. Here are some shots of her work. I think the difference between Yashima's raw drawing and her clean-up demonstrates the difference pretty nicely:
Image
Definitely feels like there's a conscious effort going on to ensure even solo episodes look decent enough where they need to. I know Tsuji's corrected Yashima in the past, but I don't know if I've ever seen it to this degree. Pretty cool!

I really like Yokoyama's style, I'd love it if she did more work on Super than she currently does.
With how little Yashima's style poked through if they had another 2nd key animator or two the episode probably wouldn't have even looked like Yashima.
I wonder if they're doing a little experimenting with staff sizes now that the schedule is in a better place to get an idea of what they can do, that could explain why they did such an action heavy episode with only 7 animators and did a Yashima episode with only one 2nd key animator.

EDIT: Also it's really weird that both of those last two shots are in the episode, Goku's position is the only thing that's different, so why didn't they use the corrected images of Whis, Beerus and Kaioshin and then just do some correcting on Goku?
