I wish they added those blur effects on nowadays transformations, also I'd like the flashes to return, they gave the attacks and transformations more impact and seemed more powerful.

It'd be cool, but it's a shame that Pokemon had to go and ruin that. :P

How did Pokemon ruin it? Genuine question.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Major incident forced drastic changes to what content was safe for broadcast.

Nowadays, shows either avoid strobing all together, or they utilise dimming until it hits DVD/Blu-ray.

This happened (heads up for those with epilepsy- very flashy)

Gave almost 700 kids seizures

So if you ever wondered why this got dimmed, that's the reason.

The first feels organic, and human-like. The colors blend nicely too. And while I like the expression in the second one, the design feels too stiff, not to mention that it looks like plastic and the face structure is rather weird.
This is a rare moment where I vastly prefer the newer version. As you said, the expression is finally correct; that pained look he has in the manga that Last House utterly botched by just making him look pissed. Expression aside though, the older one is just a bad drawing in general. His chin is at a different perspective than the rest of his face, his left eye is far larger than it should be to sell the angle, and his chest and far shoulder are Liefeldian in proportion and perspective.
The new one looks a little more streamlined/mechanical than I care for, but I can't fault it for much else.

Again that "newer" one is a fan edit that i requested, lol

That's what I'm saying, that kind of one piece/adventure time fusion art abomination wasn't needed in the first place coming from a highly praised arc.
XYZ was amazing in battles animation wise while keeping consistent art, but people talks like there was any flaws in that aspect, I'm affraid those people didn't even see the battles.
So, why do they need to reduce the art quality, in order to "improve" something that was rather than fine then?

I think it's all for the money, copying other styles to achieve higher ratings, throwing to the trash all the originality, what a shame

Those are just impact frames and they are still used all the time. You don't see any flashing for the reasons outlined in the posts above.

In Tv at least, we aren't seeing them anymore, but I remember that it appeared in BoG in the Naotoshi Shida scene when Goku goes SSJ.

Does anyone else think that Toei should just update the Super anime designs to coincide with Toriyama's modern designs. Most non-Toriyama Dragonball material has looked mostly the same for years now, but modern Toriyama Dragonball art has changed. I mean, they updated designs to go with Toriyama's most recent manga art when DB and DBZ was originally airing, so why don't they do that now?

Because modern-Toriyama art doesn't look as good to a lot of people. Although I like the second art style you posted.

I honestly like his modern art more than a lot of his Boo arc work. His newer stuff looks a lot more fun to look and interesting imo.

I don't like his new style at all, at least in DB related material. It sorta works for Dragon Quest.

The switch to digital hasn't helped either.

That first pic you posted wasn't really a good example at all. But what I'm saying is that I still think that his modern stuff is better than the anime designs now. I would really want to see Dragonball animated with the thicker lines and softer shadows that his newer art has.
Image
Image
EDIT: To clarify, I guess when I say modern I guess I'm leaning more to his Kanzenban covers (which are still like 10 years old lol.) Most of his newer Dragonball art that we've seen has just been simple character sheets, also.

Gohan in his new art style doesn't look bad at all imo. Freeza is worse, but not too bad either. Everyone else is pretty bad. Besides for that last picture of ss(2?) Goku which looks nice.
