I've been trying to find out what the name puns are, still no luck. I looked info on Egyptian Gods to hopefully get something out of it. Nothing obvious pops up since the beer puns apparently weren't the source of the names. I tried to see if anything else might pop up if you romanized the names differently, nothing, other than Bilus/Birus looking a bit like a Horus inspired name, even though his design is more in the realm of Anubis. As as Whis goes, all I could think of other than Wiskey would be something like Wisdom being a possible route for his name origin.

Really? SSJ3 Vegeta actually makes sense =/. In the Kanzenban ending of the manga Vegeta still has his drive to beat Goku. Logically Vegeta would need SSJ3 to beat Kakarot. This means he either has it during the Budokai or gets it after the Budokai. If Vegeta has it in this movie that would mean Vegeta ascended shortly after seeing Kakarot do it and thus has it at the Budokai which doesnt defy the canon at all.

While I continue to stick by the "there is no canon" mantra that everyone's repeating back at me these days, I will concede that this is literally the first time ever that any of the rights-holders have so much as casually bothered to say, "Oh hey... uhh... I guess this 'counts' or something."

And even then, I see it more as promotional speak than anything else (like a, "HEY GUYS, SERIOUSLY, THIS IS A BIG ONE!").

I take the statement to mean that this movie is intended to fit into continuity, unlike most of the other movies which have trouble fitting. Especially given that the specified chapter numbers that this would take place between.

I don't think it's that. Most people seem to know what a "canon" is. The problem comes when people try to make one for DB when those involved with the franchise haven't even acknowledged there being a canon.

It's certainly a thing they said, but it makes no sense. This film isn't a part of the original work, it's a work based on the events of the comic so while they might have an idea of what they're trying to say they're not saying what they mean at all...which means we can't know what the hell they're trying to say. Gah.
