Question: Did you find Dragon Ball Origins to be a bad game? Because that's one of my favorite games and it may affect my opinion on this game (based off your review).Adamant wrote:I think Famitsu was pretty kind to it, actually. It really isn't a good game, and the Dragonball license is more or less the only thing that kept me playing past the first level. There are a couple decent spots (the Pilaf battle is quite fun, by far the best part of the game), but overall the game is pretty damn awful, and in no way worth your money.

Sorry, I never got around to play Origins.
It's a lot worse than Advance Adventure was, at least.
Also, on the topic of tournament mode characters - first off, getting all the level 2 items does indeed unlock Murasaki. The remaining 4 characters are unlocked by getting S ranks after having found all the items. Each stage ranks you on time taken, max combo, times died and remaining life energy upon completion of stage. From what I understand, each of these four have particular goals that need to be met for C, B, A and S ranks, and your overall stage rank will be the lowest rank you got from either of the four. So, if you want the S rank, you need to meet that goal for each of the four.
According to a guide I found (I only got 8 S ranks so far), getting S ranks on 10 stages unlocks Drum, getting 15 unlocks old Daimaou, getting 20 unlocks young Daimaou, and getting all of them unlocks Arale(!!).
While it does extend the lifetime of the game a bit, it's really shoddy put together - the goals after often ridiculously strict, and the fact that life and ki powerups are completely random doesn't help matters - you generally want to have as much ki as possible when you reach the boss. The more advanced bosses (they're usually fought outside platform levels) thend to have 4 or so attacks they use at random, one of which leaves them open for counterattacks, too, so once again you're dependant on hoping the boss leaves himself open a lot, and doesn't use the hard-to-dodge attacks much.

Considering the game is out as of yesterday, that's not such a bad thing to do.
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". Anyways, I enjoy the game. But I'm disappointed in the low sales.

I bought the game and although I'm not far in it I like it. It's a bit on the easy side but after 358/2 I could go for a light hearted/nostalgia stuffed adventure.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

As a mod on another forum, I'll just point out that it's only really considered necrobumping if you don't add any new info. Like if you just say "I agree" to a post from last year or something. Though as a not-mod on this forum, I don't want to tell Mike and co. how to run their forum!
Anyway, can anyone tell me if the Australian version is the same as what the not-yet-released European one will be like? Uh, or to phrase that better, are PAL AU games usually the same as PAL EU games, aside from the non-English language options?
When I just checked to see if it was out in the UK, I came across this ridiculous error. It even says the proper name on the cover image they used!

For the record, the bump was perfectly appropriate to gauge reactions from people who played the game. I don't see a problem with it.
For those apparently so worried about this being a bump, please leave the moderating judgments to the mods--it helps keep the topics less cluttered with politics and more full of solid discussion.

Does the Japanese version use the original bgm in the game? I was just playing a realized I was hearing music from "Budokai Tenkaichi 2/3" and I realize that for some reason they changed the music for this game. Please tell they didn't use the original music in the Japanese version cause if they did I'm gonna be extremely pissed!

So far, I'd give this game a 7.5.

I'm curious about this myself. I noticed during our live stream of the game today that people were talking about recognizing tracks from the domestic releases of the Sparking! games (well, I guess only the second two, since the first recycled music from the Budokai series).Chrono Trigger wrote:Does the Japanese version use the original bgm in the game? Was it just that it sounded SIMILAR, or were they the ACTUAL tracks used before? I never even bothered to look up the history behind the American music in those games, but was it that Budokai Tenkaichi 3 actually had its new score by Kenji Yamamoto? Was about 2... was was that stuff?
The big question is the same, though... does Revenge of King Piccolo use all of the original music from Tenka-ichi Dai-bouken? I mean, the vocal opening theme is there, along with the Japanese voice cast... so I would assume that the general musical score is also carried over, but I have no clue since I didn't pick up the original Japanese version of the game.
Those who have played both, it would be great to have you chime in!
(For what it's worth, I thought that all music I've heard in the game has fit in with the mood and tone of the stages and situations so far pretty well.)

Well, I recognized music from when you were playing, Mike, from both BT2 and 3. Actually, I don't think there was any new piece of music composed (opening excluded) that I heard.
So I did some digging through my BT2/3 instruction booklets. The BT2 booklet doesn't list any details for anyone on the Japanese side, development, voices, etc. The BT3 booklet on the other hand has Music Produced by Takanori Arima. This is listed under the Spike section of the credits. right under that listing there were three "Sections": F, W, and B. The various credits point to this also being music related like there being a credit for "guitarist" and the like. The F section was composed by Hiromi Mizutani and Kenji Fujisawa. The W section was composed by Hideyuki Fukasawa. And finally, the B section was composed by Tak Arima and Tadayoshi Makino
Kenji Yamamoto's name is not anywhere in the credits, which leads me to assume he didn't have anything to do with the music of this game, which isn't too surprising. I've always thought that the music in these games didn't sound like Yamamoto's work.
EDIT So, I found out that Takanori Arima did the music for various Gundam games, and Hideyuki Fukasawa was apparently the composer for Street Fighter IV.

It really did sound like the music. From all my time playing Budokai Tenkaichi 2/3, I just can't forget the music from the games. That was definitely the music from BT 2/3.
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Giant Bomb has posted their "Quick Look" video for Revenge of King Piccolo. It runs for about 30 minutes and is quite humorous (as you would typically expect from the Giant Bomb crew). Please be advised, however, that their background knowledge on DB is relatively limited going into this.
This video should appeal to anyone who is on the fence about buying this, or anyone who has no intentions to buy, but still would like to see what it is all about.
In my opinion, it looks terrible. But that is neither here nor there....

Really? I've played through half of the game so far and I haven't seen an option to play with the Japanese voices in the options menu (which has forced me to turn off the volume for the voices because I can't stand these dub performances). Did I miss something?VegettoEX wrote:I'm curious about this myself.
