Solution to copyright laws? I wasn't aware there was a problem beyond illegal downloading or streaming.

So, the more and more I think about this and let it sit, the more shocked I am this is happening and the more I realize that I want this to be a gag and not really or just something other than real. It's 2013. Not 1996. I really want Dragon Boxes so I can have more of the series in the best quality available and, you know, not cut up and edited. I want uncut versions of Dragon Ball, GT, and the Movies in Dragon Box quality. Especially Dragon Ball since I only have Season 1 of Dragon Ball, and I've never seen more than that of the anime. I've only read the manga part of Dragon Ball. The fact that we're getting exciting about this is baffling. We mindlessly hate companies like 4Kids for editing everything ever in their anime and then this comes out and we act like it's amazing. It makes no sense. At all. Really, I had hoped FUNimation's cool thing for 2013 was more Dragon Boxes, but I guess I have to wait even more before I can get more Dragon Box DVDs.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

Come to think of it, I wonder if this is a re-dub, what music would they use? I don't know that they could use that old Saban music... or if they'd even want to.

As far as I heard, this is going to be a redub.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

perhaps it'll just be the Japanese score? Well, no complaints there even if I like Sabans music

What's wrong and hard to understand about nostalgia? I also don't think anyone here thinks this is "amazing". I'm also not too surprised if this is the "something cool" they mentioned, because I was expecting something along the lines of the Harmony Gold dub. I don't think they'd hint at "something cool" if it's just more of the same that we've received in the past; it leads you to think it's something more unexpected.

Also, there's no reason to think this is being released in place of a Dragon Box movie set. If anything, it's just bridging the gap to help get some more funds to release it, since this release will cost next to nothing to produce (given it's just a straight re-release of the original Ocean cast dub, which it likely is).

I would if I had no choice, but the encoding on those is terrible (the later in-house dub singles were better), and if given the opportunity to get well encoded versions of those episodes, I'd much rather do so.

My thoughts exactly. It's kinda like saying we didn't need the Dragon box movies because we have the Blu rays

This whole thing still confuses me. I'm definitely with ShadowDude in regards to hoping we get DBoxes over this. But all that aside, I'm just having trouble understanding this release. Is it nostalgia? Or is it not? If it's the original broadcast, which, as I believe, the packaging claims, then it's nostalgia. It's what people saw on TV 17 years ago. It's outdated and butchered, but it's a trip down memory lane. It makes sense. But if it's redubbed... well, then I'm just totally lost. Not only does it invalidate what the packaging says, because that's obviously not the original broadcast, but it completely destroys the nostalgia angle. A brand new recording is not nostalgia. And so I have to wonder what's the point. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Ocean cast. But if they're actually redubbing the show, that just seems like such a huge financial sinkhole to dive in to please a very, very, very niche audience.

Thats a good point Gaffer Tape...

If it is a redub..will it be the whole series? Maybe it's all for Canada? That I don't understand. Is there some sort of anniversary thing we're missing?

I think we will get other DB boxes soon. I think people should be patient since it took us six years for the DBZ boxes to be release here in the US.

Pretty much this. I honestly cannot wait for Funimation to release more Dragon-boxes! it's just going to take some time. I'm also not disappointed with this release ''If it's even real'' I am happy that I haven't been tempted into buying those Blue season sets of Dragonball as I too am waiting for the Dragonball Dragon-boxes. :D

At this point, I feel like it's real. So I'm surprised by the opposite: why hasn't FUNimation said it's coming out yet?

I'm not sure either :? Maybe they're waiting for the right moment to jump out and say surprise! :P but seriously I would have expected at-least a comment from them about this release. but nope, not a peep.

Well maybe they're not re-dubbing the whole thing. It could just be that they misplaced/lost the audio files for a select few lines here and there (which happens), and needed the actors to re-dub those specific lines. After all, it's been a long time since this dub has been used in any official capacity, so it's quite possible that some files could have been lost over the years.

Still, this whole release is a tad odd. I put the odds of this being a legitimate release at 1%, and I'm beginning to think that maybe this is a case where that 1% probability turned out to come to fruition.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Couldn't they just rip the audio from the DVDs though? I don't see why they'd need to remix the entire audio and go back to the source files, unless they want an OMG 5.1 audio mix, which I wouldn't care for. :|

Again, if there's any talk of "redubbing" I hope it has to do with the gap in season 3 that only has a FUNi dub. Having a complete Ocean dub, even with the footage edits that were made (even in the Westwood-dub era), could be an interesting curiosity. I mean if dub-only Digimon still sells, why not this?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
