If you take it out of context. Within the context of the announcement, I think it's pretty clear what they meant. What with the, "Japanese is the default language," thing being one of their selling points.
Maybe it's FUNi's fault for choosing to word it that way? Is that what this is all about?

Yeah, FUNi used an abstract phrase and people are running with it literally, like Usain Bolt with his legs.
These sets are targeted towards fans of the Japanese version. Adam Sheehan dropped the ball at Otakon. Or better yet, dub fans knocked it out of his hand.

I never really understood the argument behind wanting the English dub with the Japanese score on the Dragon Box. I mean, who is it making happy? I'm
not going to watch the English version no matter what. I love the Japanese voices and I love the Japanese music.
Together.
I am certain that there is a huge fanbase behind the original Japanese version and the Falcouner dub. Who exactly is the Dub w/ Japanese music appealing to? Most of the Japanese version fans don't care about it and most of the FUNi dub fans don't care about it.
It makes no-one happy.
I say they just throw the original broadcast dub onto the Dragon Boxes just so the dub fans can get what they want. Hell, I'd probably check it out once in a blue moon just for nostalgia's sake.
This way, everyone gets what they want and everyone is happy. Happy happy happy.
HAPPY.

New fans who are getting into the series...? People who don't mind the dub, but hate the music? I know those are pretty small territories, but this entire release is aimed at a small territory. And that's not getting into the fact that's the way it should have been in 1998; dub with Japanese music.
At the end of the day, this is all about the selling point of these sets, the video quality, not being tampered with. If you can fit three dubs on there without damage, who cares? However, if you can't... the fabrication should be cut. I'm having trouble understanding why people don't care about this. Looking awesome is the whole point of the DRAGONBOX.

False, it makes me happy. When I was about 9, or 10, I got a DVD from the Freeza Saga, one day I switched the audio. Here I am a ten year old and I loved the Japanese music way over the Falcouner Music. The Falcouner Music is in no way bad... But, I've always wanted the English voices with Japanese Music, it's finally there. I know the Dub is inaccurate, but I really don't care. For me that track is taking the two best parts of nostalgia and making it better. Voices (English) and Music (Japanese), so yeah, me being the 16 year old hardcore fan, who is in a really weird side of the Dub/Sub Spectrum.
I'm an "in between person" for a lack of a better term. Literally, I could care less whether the English or Japanese track is on, I'm a fan of both. So, that track is for me. The longtime fan who happened to discover an awesome music track from me randomly switching audio tracks at the age of 10.

You have points, but...with most other anime, the Japanese music wouldn't have been replaced to begin with, and this problem wouldn't even come up. Maybe FUNi's trying to phase it out at this point? I'm not saying that's right or wrong, it's just a thought.

That is exactly how I feel. I used to like Faulconer's music, but since I first watched the Japanese version way back in... 2001 or something I had fallen in love with the Japanese music. I hold the English actors with a special place in my heart, so the 5.1 track is the best of both worlds for me.

For me thats not what its about but it could be part of the Sub/Dub problem. You have the Dub fans on this site who feel below everyone else and are told that the Dragonbox is something for the hardcore fans and not for them. Like for them its Brick or nothing. When in fact thats not true, we are all hardcore fans and we all deserve the best production of Dragonball possible.
As for the Dub dialogue and original music, Id buy it. I love both versions of the series but I lean towards the Dub for nostalgic reasons so having the best of both worlds is really the selling point for me. Its funny, People will bitch about the Falconer music but when Funimation replaces it for the original music now all of a sudden no one wants it?
So...what am I trying to get at here...oh yea! STOP FIGHTING AND JUST ENJOY THE SERIES ALREADY!!!
Now then, does anyone know if we are gonna get the scouter walkie talkies with the Dragonbox because I really want one.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Wrong-O!
The dub w. Japanese track is something I've wanted for years. And now, I have it. And
I AM HAPPY. In fact, I got a co-worker to watch DBZ with the dub/Japanese music track, and he is enjoying the show a lot.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

No extras it seems, hopefully that's either wrong, or maybe we'll get the Extras Discs spread out through the other boxsets, there's 3 extra discs so hopefully they'll put them in boxsets 2, 4 and 6...

The problem here is, no matter what FUNi does, they'll piss SOMEONE off.
1: They keep the Broadcast Dub - They piss off the Fans who've gotten used to the Japanese Music or have always liked the Japanese music
2: They keep the Japanese Music Track - They piss off the Faulconer fans.
3: They keep both Tracks - They risk compromising the Video, which will piss off... EVERYBODY since the Major selling point of these sets is, and always has been, the Video Quality of the Dragon Box Masters.
Honestly... I think it's gonna be the Japanese Audio track simply because, it's become Standard for FUNi to include a 5.1 Audio track in their releases, and that Track is ALREADY mixed in 5.1, so no need for doing any remixing or altering, it's already in the can and ready to roll out.
But personally, I don't care. So long as the Video quality is fine, I'm fine with my Japanese Audio. I don't even care about the subs

This is the rant that I promised to some people on here, I don't know how it turned out. Its a bit controversial, but ehh rants are supposed to be controversial. Anyways looks like a lot more people have changed their minds and are going to at least "support" but most of them to buy the Dragon Box instead of diss on it, which is good.
And then there's the few people saying why buy it use illegal torrents. Sigh.

I don't know why, but I am a little mad at funimation tricking us about this not be a whole 80 page hardcore book. But i guess i can deal with the real remastered episodes. Just was hoping for a little more bang for my buck

Maybe they realized to fit all the information that was in the Japanese DBoxes spanned across 7 Books, 80 was too many?
Or maybe Right Stuff is just wrong.

I just figured they were going to include each of the books in the first volume of their respective halves of the Dragonboxes.
And clearly you have no idea how much these sets actually cost to buy in Japan, because these sets are a fucking steal.

I don't know if this was posted, but this is the trailer that was in Otakon.
The one in FUNimation's blog is unviewable from outside USA, but someone uploaded it on his channel for non-American viewers.

They could be dividing the books up across the volumes, it doesn't work out to be 42 pages, but dividing 256 (two 128 page books) by 7 equals 36, which isn't too far off.
Who knows, they could be adding some extra information to flesh it out a little.

I knew this would happen
Let me rephrase that. It makes "
a group much smaller than the groups that want the Falcouner Dub and the Japanese Version" happy.
There
