I hope everyone doesn't blame me if the sales are too low!

Just refer to the usually conveniently-ignored speech the guy gave at Otakon about these sets to get an understanding of what we're dealing with.Metalwario64 wrote:I hope so! But what if I cause them to make one less sale then they're expecting and they cancel it?

I don't think the Dragon Box sales will be too bad, of course 200 comments isn't a lot to base a statistic on, but still.

I really wouldn't worry about it guys. Funimation knows who they are targeting I'm sure are expecting lighter sales than the seasons sets and I'm almost positive they aren't going to drop them(God only knows what people would do). Who knows Sales might spike higher than the season sets, I mean hell, not every fan got them and now they have a choice, they might get the newer stuff.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?
And just like someone else said - it's Dragon Ball Z. It prints money. I'm sure a few casual fans who don't know about the cheaper Season sets will pick this up. And not only that, but it's new, and people always like to buy new things.
And also, Funi spent so much money to get the masters that discontinuing them wouldn't be the best move. They already know who they're advertising to, and probably expect lower sales.

Ahh, I have a funny story about that. You see, I saw in this forum some people announcing the 50% off sale at Best Buy for Anime. So I went to Best Buy hoping to get a deal. So I did buy a box set. Trigun, now when I got home. I noticed the DVD's were all warped.laserkid wrote:Because spending $25 over what was $50 isn't a sale at all.![]()
Sure, Best Buy even with a half off sale was five dollars more then Walmart. But at least with Best Buy if I buy a defective DVD I know I can get a replacement.
Why do I say this? Back in 2004 or so when the first DVD set for the 1980s He Man and the Masters of the Universe came out I found it at Walmart when taking my grocery run. The set was defective. No problem, here's a second set. Oh look, that set is also defective...rinse repeat 4 times, and they ran out of disks, but because this was an opened set they refused to refund me because I might have DVD R copied the set. So I had to wait three weeks before they restocked and got me a set that worked.
That doesn't mean I hate Walmart, I still get my groceries there, and I still pick up random videogames and movies there. But there is no way in hell I'm going to try to buy a limited release like the Dragon Box there with their policies, as I'm liable to end up not able to get my set replaced should it turn out defective.
So they were defective. So when I went to take them back to replace them. I got another box set, and those were warped also. So I wanted my money back. They wouldn't give me my money back. They said they would only give me in store credit. And then they were complaining about this Copyright BS. But how can I copy something that is defective. That didn't make any sense.
That is bogus, so I complained about it. And eventually they went and got the manager, so he agreed and I got my refund.
So yeah, you are completely right. If the price is the same at Best Buy, then I will buy the Dragon box set at Best Buy before I will buy it at Walmart. But the point is, what if you pre order this online? You are completely screwed if the discs come in damaged, maybe. Plus, you have to pay shipping to return it?
I would have more satisfaction buying it from a store, but even then I can't trust Best Buy completely. I guess, maybe when I go and buy it, I would check out the discs before I leave the store. That way they can't yell at you for copyright (because you didn't have a chance to go and copy the discs). But I wouldn't put it past them to do it. Their policies can be ridiculous. I bet they would still complain about the policy.
I mean if a product is defective you deserve a refund. A defective product cannot be even copied in the first place. But the regular cashiers at the store are completely brain dead and will argue about it.
Uhm Trigun has been out of print since Geneon died, I can hardly fault a company for not having many copies of it left.
As for online stores, they tend to have massive warehouses, I've done buisiness with amazon, Right stuf, and my preffered Robert's Anime Corner store many times.
While some are better then others (Roberts sent me replacement discs in protective holders so I didnt have to ship the whole box back and sent it next day air when I had problems with some of the old DB sets), all of them are very good about defective returns. I don't know where you got it in your mind that online stores can't do returns well, but you're seriously misinformed.

Ha ha, I really do feel bad. I was waiting forever to get my hands on this and when the time finally comes I go "eeeeeeh...not....nah". I just have so much Death Note and Ranma 1/2 to buy so watching the Saiya-jin arc again but this time with pretty colors just isn't appealing to me anymore.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Shift blame to Freeza.exe. Oh no, it wasn't Trigun. It was Outlaw Star. My mistake. Online stores can do returns, but it seems I get screwed in the process.laserkid wrote:Uhm Trigun has been out of print since Geneon died, I can hardly fault a company for not having many copies of it left.

I bought something online (Computer Case) that I wanted to return at Newegg. And I had to pay the shipping, plus they wanted to charge me a restocking fee. So I would have lost money buying something online versus buying something from a store I can just return. I guess it's different for Anime DVDs. But so far I had bad luck with Anime DVD's as well.
The discs that come in box sets always seem to get warped. It's easier just to go to the store and exchange something.
That is why I question every ones reasoning for pre-ordering or ordering stuff online that would be available at the store for the same price.
Oh man, my Outlaw Star set was BEAT UP too! What a coincidence. Luckily it was just the case that was messed up.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Eh Death Note isn't worth it. I know I am part of a Dragonball FANSITE but I would happily fork over money for the boxset over Death Note. It started great, but what a disappointment.Freeza.exe wrote:Ha ha, I really do feel bad. I was waiting forever to get my hands on this and when the time finally comes I go "eeeeeeh...not....nah". Actually I watched all of the show already and loved it. I just want to buy it now.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:eh Death Note isn't worth it. I live in Australia also and was thinking about pre-ordering from Amazon. Still trying to decide and i have a question. My DVD player is region free and my TV and DVD player can both play PAL and NTSC. Should i be worried about any video quality problems?Captain Awesome wrote:I pre-ordered from Amazon because I live in Australia, and even if our distributor Madman decided to put these sets out, not only would they be more expensive, they would do a really shitty PAL conversion and fuck with the integrity of the video.
The U.S packaging is much better than that of Madman's and is released months in advance. Anyone know of more pros or even cons of importing this release.

Not at all, so long as your dvd player has a NTSC or PAL 60 option, you're all set for video.whitey wrote: I live in Australia also and was thinking about pre-ordering from Amazon. I encourage you to import, not only will you get it cheaper (lets face it, to be cost effective Madman would have to put it out for at least $100) you're not getting a crappy PAL conversion (which Madman are renowned for) on top of the otherwise amazing video.
The exchange rate being what it is, my order will set me back $70 AUD including postage, which is only $10 more than the season sets retail here for, not a bad deal really.
