Toriyama actually took his time to write a full movie script for you all and y’all just keep on complaining. We’re actually getting some new straightforward canon DB content yet y’all persist to complain why?

Oh, the great Akira took his precious times to deliver something so that Dragon Ball may continue, we should clearly stop complaining and see whatever he provides as good regardless of quality.

This is exactly what's wrong with DBS.

No, that’s exactly what’s wrong with you... Obviously Broly was brought back because of his popularity with the fans, but Toriyama still took his time to change the actual character, took his time to rewatch all 3 OG Broly films, took his time to create a bunch of new designs, (even Broly himself. Toriyama could’ve just reused the same design from the 90s) and took his time to write a full freaking script. Y’all don’t even know wtf is going to happen, we just got the announcement of a rebooted Broly... good lord just stop complaining and be grateful. You’re still going to watch the film regardless. If the original author can’t please you, then there’s a high chance you won’t be pleased anymore and should just give up the series. If you and the rest of you ungrateful “fans” can’t bear to return of older characters even when there’s new and interesting aspects happening to them or happening around them.. then just stop watching DB.. and stop complaining... either be grateful, stop watching it, or hush up. Tbh, if Toriyama wants to also reboot movie characters and/or GT characters, i’d be fine as lOng as he updates the designs and actually gives us a well thought out story. As for Gogeta, there’s really no point for his existence if Toriyama ever makes Goku and Vegeta do the fusion dance in the canon story. It will always probably just be Vegetto.

I just realised that we still don't know what the actual plot for this film is, even with that new comment from Toriyama. All we know is that Broly's in it, Goku and Vegeta are gonna fight him, there's some stuff from the past and Freeza's involved. What's the actual story? Hopefully the upcoming trailer gives us an idea.

They've made it clear time and again that he gets the final say in what happens so he could've turned this down as he did many of their innital ideas.

Copying an idea and recycling an idea are the exact same thing because its not original.

Dragon ball has always been a cash grab and toriyama never cared. he made super saiyan just so his assistant would have an easier time drawing.

Making their work a little easier doesn't mean anything, it's a business, duh, that was never put in doubt, but there was more to it clearly.

Now he just give ideas and Toei and Toyotaro fills the blanks, and when Toei fills the blanks with Trunks' SS BS, and BS-Dama, things are no good.

So let me explain why this is such a stupid idea.

Dragon Ball has a massive ocean of ideas it can execute to stay fresh even within it's own damn lore.

That's beyond Dragon Ball team's brain power, they're more into what's "cool/in" instead of what would be "interesting/fresh".

Toriyama already said he's rewritten Broly and that this movie is supposed to cover the back story of the Saiyans, so it's not like it's a total rehash.

Nobody's clamming is a total rehash, 97% know he'll be rearranged.

That's not the issue, it's still a recycled villain, the 2nd one in Akira's movies, he has created zero main villains in movies, and 1 in 131 episodes.

A world of new possibilities, and he chose to take the easy way out thanks to a suggestion.

I said idea for a reason, not character. Now explain how a recycled idea differs from a copied one.

Yes, he is. He threatened to blow up the planet and kill everyone. I think that makes him a villain and 1 villain in 131 doesn't work when put into contet, some episodes were filler and we had 20 weeks of recruitment, 2 arcs were movie recaps and 2 were tournaments filled with plenty of antagonists, who work just as well as villains, being obstacles for our heroes to overcome.

I believe someone in this thread said that the English names for the movies are not direct translations of the Japanese titles. Battle of Gods and Resurrection F were English titles, and we'll probably get something similar with this movie.

Dude with the scar looks like Broly base form with a scar and the dude below we can't see his entire face so we don't know if they are the same, but I think they are the same character.

Yes, didn't dig much the scar too... I think DB artists should be careful to avoid making characters looking like Yamcha, I almost thought Gohan was him in the first look of RoF poster

Broly, so aside of the lazyness of not even thinking of a new name, I'm in.

Chosing Broly as the villain was lazy, leaving his name untouched was not, they don't want a new character, they want him.

You dont care about the product. You just blindly consume for nostalgia's sake.

And that's why DBS is popular, is not because it's good anime, of course not, DBS alone wouldn't have survived if it wasn't for DBZ, it feeds off via nostalgia.

Many years of frustrated nostalgia is such a powerful source to feed on.

There's little hope of this getting any better.

No other industry on earth can get away with stagnation outside of anime and video-games, and thats because these awful fans would rather get pissed on for their alliances than pursue a good product. And studios realize this, and take advantage of it every. single. Time.

You know, people assume it's a reboot of the character. But what if it's a continuation? There are ways to explain Broly being brought into the main universe. Toriyama had said that the movies all existed in their own timelines. Trunks' timeline isn't all that different. This can be the same Broly who got blasted into the sun in Movie 11, and that the affect of having s much energy erupting all at once had, instead of killing him, blasted him through the universal walls and he ended up in some era of Universe 6. It's certainly possible when you see Bardock getting bamfed into the past in his special.

Sure, it can be a reboot. But I'd like to think it's a continuation of the story and will do more to explore Broly's character and why he is the way he is. His scars can also be from everything he's been through since then. And even if it is a complete reboot, I wouldn't mind it so long as they don't completely change who he is, but just do a better job of exploring his character and history.

I also don't agree that Resurrection [F] was somehow a great title or movie. The title was very blunt about what it was about. It was Freeza resurrected. Not really all that different from Return of Cooler.

The movie is given two names even in Japan: a Japanese title of 神と神 (Kami to Kami; “God and God”) and an English title of “Battle of Gods”.

The Japanese title for the film is 復活の「Ｆ」 (Fukkatsu no “F”), which Kanzenshuu has translated as Revival of “F”. Toei’s official English translation for the title is Resurrection ‘F’.

I have the same opinion now that I have finally calm down. I'm interested to see how they are going to fix Broly now. I just hope the story makes sense and the visuals look good.

This is exactly why I never post when I have a bad first impression of something. I wait to cool off, to reassess and to see if more information comes out that changes the context of what I've seen. I'm glad I did this in the case of this movie's promotion, because I'd've been in here cursing up a storm otherwise haha.

One thing's for sure though, Takao Koyama is probably passed out in his bedroom with him and all his walls covered in white stuff after this news. I hope someone finds him before he dehydrates.

I'll go send someone to check up on him.
