So apparently it's actually episode 85 where Goku goes to Dende (basically God) to ask him to give the location of 17 according to the description of that episode. Episode 84 where Goku meets with Krillin and 18

And here I thought it would be episode 83 where all the fighters come together.


Guess you can't just base the events of an episode just by looking at the title.

It seems like it will take a couple of episodes for Goku to look for the fighters

Extrovert. Interesting backstory/motivation. He's in a group called the Pride Troopers so I expect some level of Great Saiyamaneque about him. If he's Gokû's new rival maybe it's like an inverse Batman and Joker where he suspects Gokû of continual nefarious deeds.

I'm really curious how big a role he will ultimately have in this arc given his role was already lessened in the Trunks arc.

His role in the manga's version is a lot bigger, as of now there's just been one main fight with Black and it was his while Goku got a short side fight with Zamasu. the next chapter will be Vegeta's rematch with him.

Based on what Toyotaru said, the manga follows Toriyama's outline closely so Vegeta's role being shortened was Toei's idea.

I understand why they did it cause him losing 2 times builds up his big moment at the end unlike the manga where we got that from the start. Plus the anime changed the location of his speach to after his 2nd fight where he wins unlike the manga where it's before he loses.

I wouldn't mind if he also had a passion for justice like Toppo (he'll be even stronger about it but isn't as expressive about it as Toppo is).

VERY differently. in the anime Trunks is front and center and he has a new form while in the manga his role is pretty small in comparison.

In the anime we got 2 team fights of Goku and Trunks while in the manga we didn't get that.

In the anime Goku fought Black 3 times while in the manga he didn't fight him even once.

The serious rival trope is boring at this point after Tenshinhan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Paikuhan and Hit. Something different is desperately needed.

I also approve his name Jiren, because we don't have any interesting character whose name starts with J.

The thing is, a rival kind of has to be serious to be a good foil for Goku.

40 hours is really short. I take it as a whim of an impatient child who can't afford to wait much more to be entertained, but at least Toei is doing everything right and taking it slow.
It's just like the 5 minutes in Namek and the 24 hours in the Time Chamber during Cell arc.

Looks like Toei is being smart again! Champa arc had 5 days of preparation for the Tournament and they stupidly rushed through them.

40 hours to have a megafight can be VERY long. They can drag that and milk it as long as 25 or so episode in my opinion.

It's 40 hours until the tournament begins. The tournament itself is 48 minutes. So technically it's a very short time to make preparations.

Jaco takes offense to that. (Though he's arguably more interesting in his own series than how Super writes him.)

Anyway, Jiren is likely taken from "renji", the Japanese approximation of the word "range" (a stove). Names are typically adapted to the source, which would net us "Geran" or something similar.

Hit is a bit different compared to Ten, Piccolo, and Paikuhan, but I guess its due to his persona and powers resembling Jotaro from JJBA.

I have the feeling Jiren personality might be similar to Jaco(less over the top personality though).

Well there is on really good thing about 40 hour time limit. It stops anyone from coming up with any well developed plans to try and undermine the tournament.

And they are wasting it all on a meeting in the held in a dumpster

I hope so. Especially after Goku and Vegeta used it for 3 years before the Universe 6 tournament even though it didn't really feel like they needed to... This time though, with such a huge risk, it seems necessary.

Yeah he even said a reveal is different between Anime, Manga and Outline, this misconception that Toyo follows the outline really closely needs to die already hell he changed BoG completely so don't now why people think he does.
