DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai\Vortex)
Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
O.o They really weren't kidding. That wasn't Sonny Strait doing Krillin...jeez, CW is just going nuts with these changes being required.

Sounded like Sean to me as well. I don't think kids will tell a difference though. If you hadn't said it wasn't Sonny I would have thought it was him as it is a good impression of Sonny in my opinion. At least for Goku, King Kai & Nail Sean will likely redub their lines to fit CW's crazy standards.Ishtar318 wrote:Also, about what Chris Ayres said about 4kids using sound-alikes in New York to record replacement lines for the Toonzai airing, I think I may have found one example as proof:

Go to "The Million Mile Snake Way" and carefully watch the part at about 2:20. I swear that's Sean Schemmel filling in for Sonny Strait as Krillin saying "Please! Come on, wake up! wake up!" The DVD and Nicktoons version has him saying "Please, you can't be dead!" instead.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
Hmmm....just thought of something. Sean Schemmel lives in New York, and only flies down to Texas anymore to record the DBZ videogames or DBZ Kai. Since he lives in New York, at least Goku's replacement lines can be done by the actual actor.
Still...I'm appalled at the edits. Yes, I know there is an uncut version and yes, that's the version I'll be getting, but considering that us Americans hold this nation up as "the land of free speech," it's disheartening for me to see such a rampant mentality of political correctness. I mean really, we can't say the word "BOMB" anymore!? For the love of God--oh, I'm sorry, I meant, "For the love of the undefined higher power of spiritual presence."

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Sigh, yet again 4Kids can't tolerate "harmful" words, first "kill, die etc." and now "bomb"?
It's not as bad as One Piece, but these edits do come close to the horrendous nature of the One Piece edits.
A better idea IMO would be to use the litteral translation of Genki Dama (i.e. 元気玉 = Spirit Ball).
Spirit Ball is the direct translation and conveys the nature of the attack as well as Spirit Bomb does.
Spirit Blaster sounds like a rubbish translation of Kikouhou.

I love talking crap about 4Kids as much as any other guy...but this is TheCW we're talking about. TheCW decides what they're going to allow to air. It's not 4Kids. Shows they edited for Fox had to be re-edited for TheCW. It's pathetic but it is true.Shoryuken wrote:Sigh, yet again 4Kids

Same here. I wouldn't have noticed in-passing if I were just watching it on TV. I had to listen a couple of times to hear it.DB_Fan1991 wrote:Sounded like Sean to me as well. Definitely Schemmel. Sounded more like Goku than Krillin.
Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
To me, I heard a hint of Goku in a Krillin impression. Not a mocking impression, but one you practice at for a bit, where most wouldn't notice right off the bat, and has that hint of the guy's own voice.ohaimynameiserik wrote:Definitely Schemmel. Sounded more like Goku than Krillin.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
I found another one. In the same episode at 16:25 Piccolo says "your daddy didn't make it here". It's Sabat until Piccolo says here, and then it sounds like Schemmel voicing Piccolo for the one word. It sounds more like Nail than Piccolo.
UPDATE: I found yet another one. Same episode at 17:50 Piccolo says "we defeated the man who took you away". Took you away is definitely Schemmel voicing Piccolo, and again at 20:18 Piccolo says destroyed instead of die.

Wow and listening to it, the audio sounds REALLY sloppy. It's so obvious that audio editing has been done.DB_Fan1991 wrote:I found another one. So it's like when they replace bad words in movies being played on tv then? Have to say, never thought I'd hear that with non-words before.Ishtar318 wrote:Wow and listening to it, the audio sounds REALLY sloppy. Today's episodes edits:
Episode 9: Yamcha's Struggle! The Terrible Saibamen
-Blue Popo makes his appearance again but we knew that already.
-Nappa: That weakling Raditz got himself destroyed. couldn't tell who was voicing him for the one line possibly Schemmel though.
-When Yamcha is laying on the ground he breathes.
-Krillin: Guys he's going to other world.
-Krillin: Why did you have to play the hero you big jerk.
-Vegeta: Let him get his friend off the battle field.
Schemmel voices the above 4
Episode 10: Sit Tight Chiaotzu! Tien's Screaming Tri-Beam
-Vegeta: Let him get his friend off the battle field.
-Vegeta: I'm not finished with the Namekian, so let him go for now.
-Guess what Tenshinhan's arm getting cut off was no more edited than the Nicktoons version.
-Chiaotzu's death was shortened, and they added sparkles to the explosion.
-The scene in which Krillin's says "Chiaotzu, Chiaotzu, he blew himself up for nothing" is cut.
-More blue Popo
-Kami's lines "My last moments are upon me" & "Piccolo will not survive" are removed.
-Tenshinhan: I won't let your actions be in vain.
Again Schemmel voices in the redubbed lines.

So today they added some moaning sounds to dead Yamcha. Also, instead of Krillin telling everyone he's dead they changed it to "He's going to other world, you guys"!
Then when Chiaotzuu blows himself up they took out the back and forth dialogue with Tien and they added sparkles to the explosion.... and a "sparkles raining down" sound effect. Really odd stuff.

Okay I wasn't the only one who heard them. At first I thought I was imagining due to Krillin's line. How is "going to die" better than "dying"?Tanooki Kuribo wrote:So today they added some moaning sounds to dead Yamcha. The redubbed lines were off-putting as they were totally noticeable. The sparkles in Chiaotzu's death were lame. Just goes to show how idiotic CW is.

I didn't think the re-dubbed lines were that obvious. I mean, I knew which ones they were because of the comparisons I did, but they seemed fine.

To kids they won't notice naturally, but then again I was actually looking for the changed lines, so that's why they stood out more like Krillin's other world line. It sounded more like Goku's voice coming out of Krillin's mouth.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:I didn't think the re-dubbed lines were that obvious. Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
So it looks like Chris Ayres was right that Sean Schemmel would be dubbing most or all of the lines 4kids changed. I guess it makes sense, since Sean has known the other voice actors at FUNimation for over 10 years. Never thought I'd hear him voicing Vegeta though.DB_Fan1991 wrote: Yep that's exactly like how you describe.

Another edit was after Nappa blew up that whole town when Earth was shown (or a bit before that) they had a woman groan for a second.
Edit: Chiaotzu also never said goodbye to Tenshinnhan before he was about to die and such. His whole death was silent (when he was grabbing Nappa).
