But it's really not in Goku's character to spout boasts concerning being anyone's savior. "I'm gonna win" or "I'll beat you down", sure. But him self proclaiming to be anyone's hope, especially the universe's? Bleh.LSSJGODSSJ4Gogeta wrote:Doctor. wrote:"I am the hope of the universe"

Krillin is a moron, he's always been a moron, and that's not going to change regardless of whether or not he utilizes '80s slang. His over anxious declarations of victory and mind-boggling penchant for foolish optimism is there for all to see irrespective of version.ABED wrote:Wow, when was this? Krillin has the most realistic personality of anyone on the main cast. Saying he's a moron for wanting a good outcome to everything is a bit strange.
I'd wager to say Krillin is the most "normal" character in terms of personality.

He's not foolish, Goku has always come through, I don't think Kuririn is foolish for thinking it will continue to happen. Sure, there are a few times where he counts his chickens before they hatch, but that's hardly cause for coming down on him so harsh.Kuririn is a moron, he's always been a moron, and that's not going to change regardless of whether or not he utilizes '80s slang. I still don't agree, naïve at times, but not a moron. Freeza's not an older woman spouting cheesy lines, and Goku isn't a superhero spouting poetic nonsense.Lord Exor wrote:I never said he wasn't a loveable moron.

Yes, they are both up for discussion in terms of whether each had memorable BS lines. However, that's not what you and Exor were talking about. You were talking about whether or not Freeza was characterized well, and if you're going to do that, I believe that it's better to consider the Remastered version over the Old dub, especially since Exor has confirmed that that's the dub he has in mind when saying everything he said.ABED wrote: Fio, are they both dubs? Actually, I kind of take ABED's side on this one. Krillin's a goof, and he definitely CAN be stupid at times, but on the whole, I'd say he's actually one of the smarter characters. He's the only one who does NOT immediately charge Androids #17 and 18, he invented a technique that almost killed Nappa, came up with a plan to try and cut off Oozaru Vegeta's tail, outmaneuvered both Dodoria and Freeza, AND he managed to wound Recoome (in fact, realistically, Recoome should've been killed by what he did).Lord Exor wrote:I never said he wasn't a loveable moron.
I mean, yeah, he makes some dumb blunders throughout the series, but if you look at how he does in DBZ, he's not nearly as lame as Yamcha, and he's not always getting himself killed the way Tien does.
Now, THAT ALL BEING SAID, I also disagree that "mondo cool" somehow points to Krillin being a moron. To me, it just reads as him being a lovable doof, just like Gohan as "The Great Saiyaman!"

Tien only died in battle once. Kid Blew blowing up the Earth was just an addition to that.

Re: Most memorable BS dub lines / names
Fair enough, but that wasn't all I was arguing, Freeza's characterization was tangential. Even if we just go with the remastered version, there's still plenty of awful un-Freeza like dialog and awful lines. Both versions exist, both are applicable.Yes, they are both up for discussion in terms of whether each had memorable BS lines. However, that's not what you and Exor were talking about. Re: Most memorable BS dub lines / names
He left Piccolo, Vegeta, and Freeza escape alive, which would allow them to keep terrorizing the world & kill countless of innocent people, and he was willing to do the same with Nappa, Reacoom, Butta, and Freeza (in FnF), because he wanted to fight them again in the future after they get stronger. He allowed the Artificial Humans that destroyed a future world to be created, only because he wanted to fight them. He allowed Majin Boo to be revived because he wanted an even fight with Vegeta.LSSJGODSSJ4Gogeta wrote:Doctor. wrote:"I am the hope of the universe"

Yes, he always ends up saving the world, but he could have done a better job without taking such huge risks for his selfish reasons.

Re: Most memorable BS dub lines / names
Yes on all of them except this one. He didn't allow Buu to be revived for an even fight. It was a halfassed retcon on Toriyama's part that is out of character for Goku. Even if I grant you that Goku LET Buu be revived, the fight against Vegeta wasn't even. Goku was far stronger than him if we count later material, so it's not an even fight. Toriyama wrote the fight thinking they were even, then created SS3 and had to cover his error. He allowed Majin Boo to be revived because he wanted an even fight with Vegeta.
Would you say taking huge risks for selfless reasons like mercy to be better?Yes, he always ends up saving the world, but he could have done a better job without taking such huge risks for his selfish reasons.

Re: Most memorable BS dub lines / names
We don't know for a fact if Toriyama hadn't thought of SS3 yet. Even if it was a retcon, it doesn't matter in-universe. Goku could have one-shotted Vegeta as a SS3, but instead, he chose not to use it because he didn't want to reduce his time on Earth, he wanted to fight Vegeta, and maybe he didn't want to hurt his pride after all the things Vegeta did to fight with him.ABED wrote:Yes on all of them except this one. Re: Most memorable BS dub lines / names
I think it does matter, it doesn't mesh with his character.
What about Goku's character leads you to think any of this is true? He never brings up the time issue and why would he care if he hurts Vegeta's pride especially after all that Vegeta has done?he chose not to use it because he didn't want to reduce his time on Earth, he wanted to fight Vegeta, and maybe he didn't want to hurt his pride after all the things Vegeta did to fight with him.

Both Goku & Kaio state that SS3 is a form that isn't supposed to be used in the Living World, which explains why he didn't use it before.ABED wrote:What about Goku's character leads you to think any of this is true? As for his pride, I said "maybe", though personally, I doubt it. He didn't care back in Cell arc to tell him in his face that he was much stronger than him with a smile in his face, and he didn't care about going all out against Pure Boo. I only mentioned it because other people believe this is the case.
