How did you get the set this early though?Smooth Criminal wrote:What matters to me is what I get, for how much, and how it looks/sounds.
You're getting an entire saga of DBZ, for 30-40 bucks, in VERY GOOD QUALITY, with terrific audio and the most accurate subtitles you could ask for.
Ask yourself this. Are you REALLY going to miss that little bit on the top and bottom? Is it ruining the experience in any way? Of course not. You're nitpicking.
I think the majority of people are going to be VERY HAPPY with what they're getting. Awesome show, great quality, great price. That's it.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

I'm not.Smooth Criminal wrote:Then don't buy the fucking set.
If you feel a need to characterise our legitimate complaints as "crying like children", that's your problem, not mine. This is an appropriate place to express our unhappiness about this worthless mess of a DVD release, so I don't particularly care if you find it embarrassing to read.Stop crying like children. It's embarrasing.

It funny that all of you want the DVD singles now, when they have almost the same amount cut off because of the zooming.
Well anyway have fun picking up all those volumes ( i tryed that once, but settled for only the Cell Saga) it will only cost you a like over $1000, at least from the math I did.
Also sorry for sounding like a ass before and possibly now.

I happen to be one of those people. I don't think I've said anything here on the subject yet, but I've been reading it all diligently throughout the days.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Yes it's cheap. Cheap doesn't always equal good however. Funny thing is, I think people would have been 100x happier if they'd just done a cheap set of the previous masters. 4:3 episodes, UUE quality, same price.

Anyways, I'm a bit resentful STILL at Funi for releasing the UUE's and then stopping midway through the second box set to give us this huge set. Seriously, why couldn't they have just done this in the first place? Even if I do somehow sell the 9 UUE DVDs that I bought, I probably won't even have enough to buy this new set!

So that makes me think that there will be no way that Funi will ever fix this (at least in the near future). That would be like making a second recall on their merchandise. The only way that could work is if Funi would allow consumers to trade in their current box set for one where the cropping is fixed. Hoenstly though, this is what they SHOULD HAVE done with the UUE's. It's not fair to myself and plenty of other fans that stupidly wasted their money on them

Wow...which DVD's were you watching? People posted pics from the UUE's, which were nowhere near as bad.TheMajinRedComet wrote:It funny that all of you want the DVD singles now, when they have almost the same amount cut off because of the zooming.
Anyway, I'm retreating from this topic for a week or so. I'll be back when I have my review, try not to kill eachother in the meantime ;p

I have found the discussion to be very interesting. You don't like it, don't read it. The end.Smooth Criminal wrote:19 pages of bullshit. Don't like it, don't buy it. This is what you get.
The end.
Funny, I don't recall crying at any point. Again, I'm not sure why you feel a need to characterise our complaining in terms of a child crying. I can't speak for anyone else, but it certainly doesn't reflect the way I feel about this widescreen issue, or how I have reacted to it.Need some tissues to wipe those tears away?
It seems to me that you're the one being childish, attempting to bring ad hominem belittlement into a discussion about a DVD release.

I use DVD Shrink. Not sure if it rips, but probably. It's free.Smooth Criminal wrote:I'll do it if you tell me how to do it.... I'm not good with video editing/any of that techy stuff.

If for any reason this download does not work, just search google. It's pretty popular.

Agreed. What's stopping any one of us to use their DragonBox episodes, sub them, and throw them on YouTube?Kendamu wrote:I'm glad you're happy, but what I want is something a simple fansubber could provide.
The problem is that we really don't want to have to resort to that unless there's something completely and utterly wrong with the American releases (like One Piece, Shaman King, etc.) We know that FUNimation's got a 4:3 version of the show. Sure it's not the best quality, but at lest you were actually able to see it "as it was meant to be seen." And don't go saying that the FUNi masters were slightly zoomed in. We already know that, and a good number of those who seriously didn't like that they were having zoomed in footage ended up getting the DragonBoxes.
DragonBall was not meant to be seen in widescreen. As seen numerous times throughout the series, it makes good use of the 4:3 aspect with stuff like close-ups, splitting the screen multiple times, and having one guy hit the other guy from the top corner of the screen to the lower opposite corner. This is more than being nitpicky about a little thing here or there.
At least with stuff like movies being transferred from full to widescreen, the editors (or whoever crops the movies for 4:3) take the time to consider how particular scenes should be handled. They know when to stretch the screen, or cut certain parts of it, or even where to focus during stuff like fight scenes. From what's been put up here (and a good number of stuff has been put up here), you can tell that FUNi just "placed the black bars" at the top and bottom of te 4:3 image and walked away.
The only reason I'm still not cancelling my preorder is that I want to have these episodes on something other than my VHS recordings of the UUEs on Cartoon Network. That, and I actually like digipacks

:whew: With that out of the way, I've got a question. Are there any noticeable changes made in the dub script that weren't there when they were dubbed in the UUEs? For example, in the re (or I guess it would be "re-re") dub, Vegeta asks Goku if he would like to be his new right hand man, since Nappa's gone and all. However, I'm pretty sure that in the JP script, Vegeta tells Goku about how Saiya-jinns have their power levels measured and are sent to planets based off of that. So... is this corrected in this release? I'm pretty sure the conversation is in episode 30.
