Super Animation Catalogue 2.0
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 61
That Goku Black cut was simply beautiful haha the way he moves along with the blade is really nice and the effects for the explosions are really cool. It's cool to see Karasawa together with Shimanuki's style.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 61
Otsuke Ken did a great job, the sword scene of Karasawa looked very fluid and really well done. I'm glad that it seems we are having action episodes until ep. 65, although I'm a little worried because of those two Yashima episodes coming one next to the other. I wonder if it was a mistake or it is actually happening, maybe those episodes won't be full of action but Manabe and Karasawa are the other supervisors...

Incredible episode!
Just like I expected, Shimanuki got this one! Props to Ken for the beautiful storyboard and the rest staff that helped Shimanuki shine once again, this time in a major episode.
This was more than deserved. I'm glad for him.
This arc is bringing the best work in Super from some animation supervisors:
Tate - episode 47 and 56.
Karasawa - episode 57.
Shimanuki - episode 54 and 61.
I just want the schedule to keep improving more and more.

I'm curious about what Inaba JIn did in this episode, does anybody has an idea of what scene he did?
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 61
I think inaba jin did the scenes with the fast paced punches. Especially in the first half.

Man, from a style standpoint, I think Shimanuki's is currently the best in the show. It looks so close to Z. I love his correct cheek shading and firm looking faces. They have so much depth! That shot of Goku Black that Ajay used is probably the best the character has ever looked.

This beautiful shot of Black and Zamasu reminded me of the one scene from Wes Craven's Scream with Billy and Stu.

Simply put, shimanuki is the best
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 61
Aside from the Chichi and Goten flashback, I think this episode had a fairly consistent look front to back.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 61
Good episode. First half was nothing impressive only on-model shots, but second half they stepped up their game. Karasawa cut was nice and their were bits of cool choreography. Shimanuki's drawings have improved but the timing is still not there. I still feel he can do a lot better.
Best thing about this episode was Ootsuka Ken's storyboard and Tomioka's writing, they really did a fantastic job. I found the content of the episode better than the animation.

What a magnificent cut that was from Karasawa. It just made Black (Zamasu) so dymanic and enigmatic He's my second favourite regular animator in this show behind Tate.Ajay wrote:

Seriously, has Toei forgot to add this in the fighting ? Adding this just shows how damn fast they are. Almost every fight had it in Z.

The third example wasn't from Toei, but I see what you mean. It really adds to the ferocity of the punches and kicks being thrown. But at the same time, I'm kinda glad they've eased off on that stock effect, and are focusing more on actual hand-to-hand combat instead to punching and kicking the air frequently.HybridSaiyan wrote:Seriously, has Toei forgot to add this in the fighting ? Yeah, totally. Maybe that's why i've been so critical of the fighting in Super. I just find whenever a punch is thrown in the newer content, it lacks the ferocity as you said. If they aren't using that stock effect, I wish they'd make the hand to hand combat similar to the SSJ3 Goku and Janemba fight. (Movie quality i know Dx) but, i just expect too much sadly.Lord Beerus wrote:The third example wasn't from Toei, but I see what you mean. Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 61
The moment where Black does that little back flip kick against Trunks and poses with his new ki sword were the only nicely animated parts of the episode. Otherwise, the entire episode looked ugly. Faces and noses were ill-proportioned and the movement itself was still and lacked any sort of impact. It's par for the course with Dragon Ball Super at this point, but it would be nice if Hatano would approve fight episodes only when he knew he would actually have the staff to carry them out.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 61
They had it in episode 39, so they didn't forget about it. Would like it s little more even though I prefer actual hand to hand combat.HybridSaiyan wrote:Yeah, totally. I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 61
We're still far away from excellent animation, but come on guys! If you compare it to how it was before this arc, there has been a lot of improvements, and even who would have thought that the best action sequence (not counting movies) would come from an episode of super? (Shida's cut in ep 57) Remember how we barely had any seconds of good action? Even in the U6 Arc there were few moments of decent action (except for Vegeta vs. Magetta in Shimanuki's episode, Vegeta vs. Cabba, Vegeta vs Hit and Goku vs. Hit) Before that there was barely any good seconds of decent action and now it's more common to have more really decent cuts. Let's not be so negative and let's appreciate the good things as we have been doing, I'm just saying...
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 61
Really like some of the stylistic choices this episode.
It's the little techniques and add-ons that make the difference, like the shockwave from the attack of Black and Zamasu, or the whole sequence with Goku owning both of them. Now if only the punches and kicks had more weight to them!

Wasnt all that pretty, but ill be damned if it wasnt a good episode nonetheless.JulieYBM wrote:The moment where Black does that little back flip kick against Trunks and poses with his new ki sword were the only nicely animated parts of the episode. The directing here is what kept the episode going
Also I think the explosions that happened were really nice. Effects animation is still animation
