I thought that was who he was... :D

Also, he still sounded very Newstone-ish at the beginning of the episode, but as it progresses, he seems to lose a tad more each line... Perhaps it will be gone entirely within the next episode or two.

The Abridged Freeza sounds like to much of a dandy for me. Also, performance suiting the character is much more important than an actor doing an imitation.

I actually heard a tiny bit of Abridged Freeza in the voice.

But the difference is I don't find abridged Freeza anywhere near as threatening in delivery vs. the new voice, hence, he sounds like a dandy to me.

I can hear the same type of character out of them both. That's good because that means that the new Kai dub is translated well. However, I don't hear the same voice out of the two at all.

I love it. Also Swasey's Dodoria is pretty nifty too, still gotta get used to Tatum's Zarbon but I think it'll come full-swing later on with his more interesting episodes.

It's uncanny how the sequence of events unfolded.

Linda was announced as returning for Freeza, yet later on in the production it was announced Freeza would get a new voice in the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Kai. At first all of us expected Linda's Freeza yet it was the only voice we know so far which was recast after having been announced as unchanged.

But, in a bizarre coincidence, the episode where Freeza made his first appearance happened to be the last episode in a row of new episodes as aired on Nicktoons. (Ie it episode 19 could've fallen on Wednesday so the next episode would only be a day away.) Add to that, Freeza only has one line and a laugh in Kai episode 19, adding to the mix for fans to keep speculating on the voice and their initial impressions for 4 days until the new voice can be heard in a reasonable amount of dialogue.

This thread grew by 10 pages overnight after episode 19 aired.

Guys, he chuckles just like Ryusei Nakao.

HE CHUCKLES. JUST LIKE. RYUSEI NAKAO.

Love the new Frieza. You can even hear Kaoru from Evangelion in his voice!

Okay, that was awesome. Glad I reserved judgment on Thursday, because it was worth it. I'm loving Freeza's voice after all, especially what we heard in the preview. That "mmhmhmhmhm" laugh was wicked.

That's why I like what I'm hearing. Ayres's acting is superb. The fact that his voice sounds like Newstone's to me doesn't matter as much.

Episode is almost over, and I have to say I am THOROUGHLY Happy with the new voice now.
He's not trying to sound feminine at all, the Maleness of his voice shines through easily.

I'm very happy with this voice, oh YES!!
FINALLY a good English Freeza Voice!

EDIT: DAMNIT! I keep trying to make this post but it won't let it go through because of everyone ELSE posting!

It's like Pauline Newstone with Ryusei Nakao type chuckle, which is good.

Still much closer to Newstone than any other Freeza voice.

See, I don't get how anyone still hears Newstone in this at all.

I heard it in the Thursday episode, but this episode felt like a complete 180 from there. He sounds sufficiently like a man, and he acts the character really similarly to Nakao, even if his tones is different. (but that's a normal thing in this dub, Kuririn in a prime example)

Wow, he nearly sounds like an English speaking Nakao! He no longer has that Newstone imitation quality to his voice, and he has that slightly feminine, gentleman tone to his voice! It looks like the theory of him using a Young/Newstone-esque voice for the first few lines and then fading into his own performance in an effort to make Young's laugh in episode 1 less inconsistent was corrrect.

Similarly, Rial's Bulma seemed to try and tap into Volmer around the first couple of episodes, but she has since made it her own role.

Best English Frieza in any dub hands down!

Also, Muuri/Moori however it's spelled has a new voice as well; it's no longer Sabat. I wonder what they will call Great Elder/Saichoro and who is actor will be. I have a feeling they will call him "Great Elder Guru" in an effort to please "both sides" and to fit the lip flaps of "Saichoro-sama". I hope they nix the Guru entirely though. I digress: Ayres! :o Wonder how he will handle Nakao's crazy screams and that-time-of-the-month mood swings!

I'm liking the new Freeza a little more, but I'm still sort of reserving judgement.

Okay, I watched today's episode and Freeza's voice was WAY better than I expected. His one line on Thursday just wasn't enough to judge from. There's a few points where he sounds kinda feminine but most of the time, he sounds masculine which is just awesome.

Hopefully some of the people who didn't like the line on Thursday liked Ayres' performance today.

I like the voice for this form but I don't know if it'll be fit for Freeza's final form.
