Here I thought you would feel the opposite, because that's how it strikes me. Jiji is literally tracing most of his doujinshi, panel for panel from Toriyama's manga, so the faces are pretty much spot on with how the man himself would draw them...because he already did. Toyble's art usually mimics the style GT, which really sort of strays from how Toriyama would usually draw the characters, by giving them a very distinct style of nose and chin most of the time.
Direct translations of the Korean DB Online timeline and guidebook.
My personal "canon" and BP list. (Coming Soon)

In Jijii's there are a lot of anti-anatomic faces and expressions (and these ones are not traced  ) that don't resemble like drawn by Toriyama. That's what I mean.

I can't stand Toybles current art style. I absolutely LOVED how he drew DBZero, but the current AF just looks very inconsistent and... bad.

In my opinion, Toyble's manga is the best thing since DBGT. It's better's than anything Toei and Naho Ooishi did since. The art is good - sometimes acceptable, sometimes great. I can't say anything bad about the story, and some elements I find actually awesome, like the entire story behind the West Kaioshin and Goku + Shenlong = SSJ5. No matter how absurdly powerful Goku is, it manages to make it acceptable. (just like Toriyama) There are still some bad things about it, but it doesn't matter in the end.

This manga doesn't have anything good about it. It's a complete waste of effort. Bad story and copied drawings. It shouldn't get this much attention.

Go take a closer look at Toyble's work. He traces as well, and when he tries not to, the art is very bad. Oh, and the main villain and many of the plot points are directly ripped off of some old AF fanfics.

He did in the past 1st volume a bit of tracing, but by now he doesn't no more. The art is pretty cool and harmonious and... "and when he tries not to, the art is very bad" well, that's Jijii, not Toyble...

Toyble comic was intentially created to combined obscure fanfics and them passable. He's even managed to make Broly a tolerable character. And you are aware the Ize story is a fanfic floating around the internet as well? Not as popular as Xicor, but it's definitely out there. As far as the art, it's all your opinion on which is better. However, to say Toyble is horrible? Just can't agree. Having read the manga backwards and forwards, he comes so close to Toriyama style of art (and writing) that it's scary. There's a reason that there was a podcast dedicated to it.

That is an example of Toyble's better art, and probably some tracing might be involved. But especially when charactes are in the backround, they look very bulky and weird. Some panels are fantastic (like that one), others are messy. And Jijii's fight scenes are much more intense and look a lot like those in the original manga. Toyble's are just lazy and plain boring. And try to compare the beginnings of both AFs. Toyble's is done in a few pages and this lame "Anti-Goku" just pops out of nowhere and boom. Jijii's actually gives some backstory, and shows all the Z-Fighters doing their daily chores before sensing this new threat. Ize doesn't instantly pop out of the author's ass.

I never said Toyble's AF is horrible. I just happen to like this version better.

You say some tracing but you gotta provide examples man. It's so sickeningly easy to point out this AF's tracing. And Xicor's backstory is explained AND in tune with the original Dragonball lore (reasoning for Goku being late in coming back to Earth)

And as far as lazy and less detailed, I really wish I could post scanlations of the Dragonball manga, but Toriyama does the exact same thing and a lot of times doesn't go into incredible detail with his backgrounds. I have them pulled up on my pc right now.

But this is just one of those times that one must agree to disagree. I can go on for days about it, but in the end what you like better is what you like better.

Seriously? The fights look like the manga, because they ARE the fights from the manga. And there's nothing so impressive about anything in the story. He's just playing around. Ize, Vegeta SSJ3, Gohan SSJ5 are just there because he thought it's fancy, but in the end it's just tasteless. Some people can write a great story by just drawing and not thinking much. But this guy just doesn't. Imagine reading this story without the drawings - it'd be extremely boring.

The only think left to appreciate is the art... and almost all of it is copied from DB. :|

This manga = 0/10.

But if you like it... it's fine.

Tell me what is so great about Toyble's one, then.

Personally, I think both of the AF stories are pretty mediocre, barely rising above bad fanfic level. I feel the only reason they get so much attention is because of the AF fever and the fact the art mimics Toriyama’s art fairly well.

There’s so much better doujinshi out there.

I mean, I don’t HATE them or anything … but I don’t have very high expectations for either of them.

(I was on holiday, so I’ll scan the remaining volume tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.)

I totally agree. This is why I stopped reading both AF doujins all together. Toyable's doujin has gotten better though and I might go back and read it if he updates but this doujin is just mediocre. I said this before but the art is what really gets under my skin. The artist seems to be very talented but yet he continues to copy scenes straight from the manga.

I also find both stories to be really dull and uninspired. There's so much to explore in the DB universe, why write a story about Freeza's son or Goku's evil clone. Come'on! That's the bottom of the barrel for fanfic ideas!

Sorry, I'm done bashing these doujins. StarRot despite how I feel about these books, you're doing an awesome job scanning and sharing them with us and I think the forum can't give you enough thanks.

I'm not too fond of comparisons so I'm not going to talk about Toyble's AF, but this one.... the more I read it, the less I like it. =/
I mean, I was really hoping there would be more original work on Volume 4, but Young Jijii keeps on tracing (not really, but still) the manga... The new villain looks better than Ize, though.

to be honest I started my doujinshi because of both the AF mangas. But the more volumes I read on both of them, the less I started to like them.
I didn't enjoy Jijii's volume 4 AT ALL actually. It's just too straight, no story. He just seems to write some panels with talking in it, doesn't matter what they're talking about. As long as he reaches the battle scenes as fast as possible.
As for Toyble, I didn't like the battle with Xicor, and it's hard to believe that broly has a 'easy' side(however the backstory to it is well done) but I did love the last volume with Muten Roshi's death. That one just made me want to hope for another chapter. I haven't been further than that but I sure am interested.

((Dammit because of this topic I started to realize how my own doujinshi is going just as bad with the story...))

Heh, and in a twist of irony, the author of this manga drew of piece of fanart dedicated to Toyble's.

DRAGON BALL AK, SONOGONO DRAGON BALL and DRAGON BALL AF are three distinct doujinshi by three different authors. I think that all Young Jijii is doing in his (her?) blogpage is to write a review of them. I'm just curious of DBAF's review:
応援イラスト第三弾はドラゴンボールAF同人誌の火付け役といってもいい作品、トイブルさんのDBAFです
原作に近い作画に加え、鳥山先生が考えているようなほどのストーリー展開に多くのファンがいるのも納得できる作品です
詳しい内容はトイブルさんのブログをご確認ください?
今後も期待しています、お体に気をつけて頑張ってください?
応援企画は一応これが最後です、これからもドラゴンボール同人誌を盛り上げいきたいと思います

EDIT: The last illustration is about another doujinshi, sonogono dragon ball, sonogono post that doujinshi here: http://ameblo.jp/sonogonodb/
it looks both illustrations are dedicated to other authors of doujinshis
