Interesting stuff Ashura. Though now I'm curious as to why the Blue Water dubs didn't replace the Japanese music if AB Groupe could have made more money from having their own scores.

Perhaps because they were already saving money by using the Blue Water actors instead of the Ocean actors?
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:

My guess is much like DB in the US, the ratings didn't tend to be enough to make it more than a little extra revenue for them.

I want to mention that it's not like I've talked to anyone in the AB Groupe and know for sure that's what they were thinking and that why they did their own dub, but it makes the most business sense; they had no real reason to redub it with different music otherwise unless it was somehow beneficial. Once I had read about the rest and did research into Saban and then read the whole interview with Gen Fukunaga where he mentions music licensing, the whole story sort of clicked together.

A lot of the stuff with Saban comes from usenet posts I read a long time ago when the editor for Escaflowne started posting there. Japan balked over them removing the music which is why that's the one Saban edit show that uses some of the Japanese music.
My favorite movie henchman is Sancho.

Follow my stupid crap on Twitter. Please note, I do not have time to reply to any PMs about color correction methods anymore; sorry about that.

I don't recall ever watching a French dub cartoon series with a different soundtrack than its authentic music, so probably they didn't even think about this detail. Thank god they didn't.

All French AB Groupe dubs of Dragon Ball series and films feature its original music by Shunsuke Kikuchi, besides, they wouldn't want fans complaining because it'd decrease popularity and sales (it's on DVD in France).

Looks like some other places have this listed. I like the way the second one has it priced at $0.00.

http://www.tfaw.com/Profile/Dbz-Saiyan- ... D___424696

All details have been pulled from AAA Anime so I don't know if this makes it any more credible.

I like how in the last linked website it says there "may be some content changes" which means that the cover art might not be the final cover art or maybe it means that the description could be wrong. So basically it could either be a re-dub of Z, Kai or the old Saban Z dub.

I honestly just want it to be the Saban dub of Z so I can own that in HD and enjoy the nostalgia. Apart from that I just don't care that much for Ocean's dub unless Ocean Kai turns out to be surprisingly good.

DVDs aren't HD.

I basically just mean being able to watch it on a HD TV without it looking really bad.

Since more are putting it up for sale (I'm willing to pay like $31 like it's priced on those websites), it's sort of becoming a bit hard to believe it's just a rumour from now on.

If the price is right, I'll definitely be pre-ordering it because I don't want to miss a chance leaving DBZ Ocean Dub Saiyan to Freeza out of my personal collection.

They aren't. You're right but the upscale that Xbox 360 and PS3 both do is fantastic, it looks really nice upscaled to 1080p HD, by far much better than watching a DVD through a DVD Player with a SCART/AV. HD rocks. :P

Edit 1: I don't suppose they have mixed Ocean Dub + Original DBZ music, as an extra dub choice but it'd be a nice addition.
Edit 2: Check here for the newest Amazon anime releases for pre-order - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywo ... eleasedate
Edit 3: Hopefully the review section will be disabled from those numbskulls that leave a comment in the review section. I really hate that, it's misleading.

How come these listings keep claiming it's episodes 1-29 and there's redubbing? The box clearly states episodes 1-26, and "The Original Television Broadcast".

This is what I've been trying to find out since it first popped up on AAA-Anime. I tweeted FUNimation and even Lance, but no one responded back. I guess time will tell.

Like I said, I have a feeling it is labled original broadcast so it is not to be confused with FUNi Kai. I doubt the producers could call it The Ocean Dub.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

The most bizarre thing to me is how there's obviously this huge renaissance of Dragon Ball in Japan surrounding Battle of Gods, yet here we are in the United States and FUNimation is like, "Hey, you guys... look... the ocean dub on DVD. Cool, right? Well seeya."

Haha Yup! :D Hopefully they're trying to distract us that way they can announce the new movie here

I don't know if anyone has brought up the point that why let the old dub waste away in their archive? Why not try to monetize it? People talk about milking Dragon Ball (or any franchise for that matter) like it's a bad thing. If it's something you like, why should it matter? If it means more stuff, then milk the crap out of it!

I agree! I made a post a while back about the very same thing. Why wouldn't I want my favorite show delivered to me in every which way shape or form possible? I can't think of any other fan base spoiled as much as us! :D

Why exactly should Amazon post it by some tomorrow?

I mean, the product supposedly won't be out until 07/17/2013, so there's still plenty of time, but for the sake of getting customers to pre-order getting it on Amazon asap is the best decision (in case this is real, which I hope it is).

I really want this sooo much! Fingers crossed it's dual-region, i.e, R1 (NTSC) + R2 (PAL). :)
