Of the characters in the demo, Gohan seems to have the most open-ended combo system. He can land a standard combo (Y, Y, Y) into a launcher (X) and then extend the combo using forward+X for a series of mid-air kick rushes. I was able to land 2 kick rush series this morning. The variety of uses for the Z Assists are really great as well. Most of the assists do have some start up to take into consideration. So far, Great Saiyaman is my favorite as his dropkick goes far and can be used to chip away at the opponent's guard bar, to apply pressure, or to extend a combo. Pu'ar is also good but a bit risky as the opponent might grab the senzu bean. Generally speaking, the higher the power of the assist, the slower the start up.
I only just started playing this evening, and yeah, I'm in total agreement: Gohan seems super easy to start learning combos and juggles with. I had no problem at all getting folks up in the air and continuing combos with him.

Absolutely loving what I see so far, and can't wait to dig around even more into it.

How would you compare this to Ultimate Butouden (or the old Butouden games even) and Super Sonic Warriors 2 respectivly? Would you classify this as a true Butouden sucessor or something completely different?

Man, the more I see of this game, the more I want it to be officially released here. So far, Bamco has been good about my wants (JJBA, J-Stars, the two most recent Saint Seiya games), but here is the real test...it should be far easier than any of those...come on Bamco.

I kinda feel sorry for Vegeta, all his tough forms are assists. No love for the Prince of a small group of Saiyans (most not full Saiyan)?

I know you didn't ask me but I can provide some detail here.

I would say the Extreme feels more like a love child of the SNES Butodens and Super Sonic Warriors. It feels very different than Ultimate Butoden, largely due to manual ki charging and energy blast battles being determined by button mashing rather than mini games. Unlike Super Sonic Warriors, the characters have weight. Buu definitely feels heavier and slower than Gohan, for example. The game feels a bit more technical than SSW or the SNES games but not too much. It's definitely not a Guilty Gear or BlazBlue. I cannot help but be awed at Arc System's ability to make fighters such as Persona 4 Arena that are accessible to a particular fanbase and still appealing to fighting game fans.

I have a Japanese 3DS but can't seem to get a hold of a demo for this game. Any assistant would be greatly appreciated.

Edit - found a QR code. Thanks anyway everyone. :)

If you mean Vegeta he doesn't do anything other than a kick (which doesn't take much damage either)

A middle ground between Super Sonic Warriors and the SNES Butoudens? Has some depth into it but is pretty accessible with plenty of fanservice? I love this game already, it's exactly what I wanted since I saw the first scan.

Now if only we get confirmation of a retail release in the west it will be the best day ever.

Never had this kind of feeling before about DB game. It's like the game is 20 years old also, coming out now.
And I did enjoy Ultimate Butouden a lot :)
Have you tried the demo? I was unimpressed with the videos too, but try playing the demo, it's actually pretty fun to play

How can I play the demo?

edit: Don't have a Japanese 3DS :(

edit #2 because I don't want to doublepost. But It turns out this game is coming out June 11th in Japan, and I'm going to be there from the 5th to the 14th. I'm definitely picking it up! Might get one of the New Nintendo 3Ds non-XL's just because we don't have them in the states.

Site updated adding the Legend. 8)

He got a nice art, by the way. Though it is a rehash of his art from Zenkai Battle Royale. :problem:

I have a standard Japanese New 3DS and it is amazing. I don't know the price in Japan, but there's an Amazon seller that sells them for about $170 with Prime shipping. I got a black model for $164. They have the white model for $169: http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Whit ... an+new+3ds

There is a way to play the demo without a Japanese 3DS, but it involves a Gateway flash cart and some shenanigans that I can't explain here.

It's always interesting to see who makes the roster for these games. I don't agree with everything (Yamcha, Tenshinhan, and Chaozu should be playable, not Burdock), but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't really excited for this game.

Anxiously awaiting more character / assist updates.

Better Bardock than Chaos, actually.

And not from the pointview that Bardock was already a support-character in some past games, tables must turn sometimes.

Is this the first DBZ game with SSJ Bardock?

Technically Dragon Ball Z for Kinect was, followed by Dragon Ball Heroes.

Though, actually, Heroes might have gotten him first. Someone else would know better than I would :).

Dragon Ball Heroes came up with Super Saiyan Bardock for the first time ever, then followed by Dragon Ball Z: for Kinect, making him for the first time more accessible to the fans, but to a certain point, since that game is an exclusive (and horrible) for X-Box.

Actually you could say Super Saiyan Bardock is "first time playable in a decent game" in regards to Dragon Ball Xenoverse.

Not to mention other games that feature him but that are japanese-only, like Dragon Ball: Zenkai Battle Royale and Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission (and Ultimate Mission 2)

Though I must say that this is the first 3DS game that will feature Super Saiyan Bardock which will be available to the whole world.

Nothing confirms that this will get a global release, if the previous installment(s) is anything to go by, it will be Japan-only.
