This whole topic reminds me of the Saiyan Saga kickstarter fiasco. The end result was a great example of how staying comic-accurate to the source material won't turn out well.

Not only that, but it would be hard to fit a narrative in just 2 hours. I guess the Saiyan saga would be the prime candidate for the first movie? Still, with only about 2 hours it would feel very rushed.
I remember K&K Productions. Sad their project never took off. I was all for it back in the day.
I say if this One Piece live action series from Netflix does well we could see the same happen for Dragon Ball, time will tell.

I am very curious to see how the OP live action series will do. At least they seem to communicate more with the Japanese staff, unlike the "Death note" "movie. I think that OP translates better to real life than DBZ but you are right that the success of the live action series can lead to even more or even less live-action adaptations.

Yeah, at the very least Oda is involved and the first episode is to be titled 'Romance Dawn', so I'm cautiously optimistic they are going in a faithful direction with it.
I'm also curious to see the live action Cowboy Bebop series that will also be out soon.
Both will be very telling of whether Netflix will keep going with these live action anime adaptations.

I think a decent live action Dragon Ball movie is possible; it would just take a lot of skill to pull it off right. My biggest fear for a Dragon Ball movie is that they'd either try and make it too gritty, or over emphasize the lighthearted elements of the series.
There's never been a shortage of skilled creators to do the job. They've just never really been interested in the property. There's a good number of films out there the carry the Dragonball tone, but they were in different genre.
We see Shang Chi and think "Yeah, they could work". Do you really think they were the first to envision such a ... vision?
