I think we all want too, but I don't see this movie getting a major worldwide release. I'm hoping next year that Funi will pick up the rights to the movie and release it at Otakon like they did with Eva 1.0.

Not exactly 100% confirmation of anything, but what else could Schemmel possibly be talking about other than Battle of Gods?

It was already summer when the interview took place, so I took that to mean Summer 2013. Why would it be such a stretch for the film to come out here a few months after March? Dragon Ball Kai came out in the US before it even finished airing in Japan.

I do remember some people on here saying that Schemmel claimed to not know anything about the film months after this interview took place though, so I've probably made a mistake and jumped the gun...

It sounds like he's doing a video game adaptation of a Marvel/DC popcorn flick and less like Dragon Ball.

"This summer" means exactly was it is: this current, or soon-to-come summer. You don't say "Battle of Gods is coming out this year", when you mean "Battle of Gods is coming out next year".

He's certainly not talking about Battle of Gods, especially since there's no game announced for it or anything (does Japan even do games based on their latest films?).

It sounds like this years major video game release is going to be centered around this new movie. That's if I had to take a guess. If that's the case then we can definitely count on this movie making it westward(with the Funimation cast).

I guess he is likely doing voice work for another video game that is no DB related (I guess a movie tie in game for a movie like Man of Steel or Iron Man 3). Japan never does movie tie in video games like we do.

Who knows, it might happen. We've seen little of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods' animation and we're still eight or nine weeks away from the film being finished. Toei Animation was taxed enough that they farmed One Piece: Episode of Luffy out to a mostly different production crew (MADHOUSE was even involved in second key animation). Production on this movie might see farming out, too.

I like the new animation, even though it's weird and really clean compared to the other footage I see from db/z/gt/kai.

I'm not too worried about how "clean" the new digital animation is going to look. Yeah, the video game animated tie-ins and Kai OPs and EDs were lacking, but none of them were feature films. Good examples of contemporary Dragon Ball animation: the video game openings pre-Sparking! era and the JSAT special.

I really just want them to spend money on it. It's the first theatrical release for Dragon Ball in forever. We've seen very little, but I'm expecting it to look better than say, a late night TV anime.

The fights at least will look good. Shida Naotoshi is involved, so we'll have at least one really good cut. The fights from Ossu! Kaette Kita Son Gokuu to Nakama-tachi!! were pretty good, so at the bare minimum the fights here should be as good.

Still, I can't say I'm impressed by what I've seen thus far. Considering this is the first feature film in two decades, I figured it would be on par with Ultimate Blast's opening at least.

I haven't lost hope just yet; even though I would like a more movie-like color palette.

I mean, the trailer has no footage of any of the actual fighting; it's all prelude stuff with characters powering up and charging at whoever their opponents are. I'd have to see bad footage of actual fighting before getting discouraged about that.

I'm pretty sure this trailer was rushed out for promoting with One Piece Film Z. Because production on Japanese animation tends to run close to the broadcast or release I wouldn't expect to see clips of the good stuff until March. The same happened with One Piece Film Z, after all.

I won't lie, if BOG has fight scenes anything like that I'll scream with happiness like a little school girl. Oh yeah. That's an awesome combination of traditional animation and CGI. There are some epic camera movements and effects going on there. We've only seen one tiny part of the space battle in BOG, and it looks unfinished. The final product may end up being awesome (I hope, I hope).
