In DB, Krillin would weight his gains and losses before and during a fight. In case things went south, he had no qualms about surrendering. He was a pragmatist.
Yamcha, on the other hand, had his honor held first and foremost, despite not having Goku's golden protagonist plot armor. Even when faced with overwhelming odds, he would fight till he couldn't stand or stay conscious. His battle with the Baba's mummy is one of his best moments, as well as his fight with Tien.
The moment where Bandage tells him to surrender, and Yamcha, in response, kicks him in the face with a straight-up kick is one of my favourite scenes ever in Dragonball.
It was never about him winning or losing. It was about not giving up.
