It's quite obvious that in a scenario like this tactics will be useful and it won't be all about power until only few characters remain on the arena.
There is not a no flying rule. You cant can't fly once you are over the edge. Idk how this rumor started but the sub was pretty clear not to mention people are flying while fighting in the intro.

Agreed, considering every kaioshin must know, power isn't the only deciding factor,is teamwork and strategy
And on top of that, who's to say there won't be several characters that have unique abilities which make raw strength worthless?
Hell, that was the whole thing about the Universe 6 Tournament. Aside from Hit, none of the participants were really that strong, they just had different tricks up their sleeve to get by.
When Super apparently shoves Goku down our throats:

Goku said there was a no flying rule when talking to Krillin and one of the Producers said the same in that recent interview.

Team dragon is a perfect balance of power and tactic, and #17 embodies those perfectly, since he have both of those traits
17? Why him ? When has he ever shown tactical ability ? Don't get me wrong, I think he's capable of it. I think all the fighters on the team are, but it's strange you choose him over Goku and Vegeta. Two characters that are most likely stronger and smarter.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

There's no flying when you're out of the ring, that's it. The intro shows them flying and fighting.

That's not what's said in episode 84 or by the producer who was the one to actually expand Toriyama's outline.

But didn't the in universe explain goku is not too good with the teamwork, and I forgot gohan,he is also a good balance of power and teamwork,I meant teamwork for #17

Oh, I guess that makes more sense then. I don't know how well he'll team up with people outside of krillin or 18 though. So yeah if team work is taken into account then I think Gohan, Piccolo and 17 are the most well balanced fighters.

Watch the part where Vegeta is fighting the pink guy. If that isn't flying idk what is.

Sure its just the opening but its not a random scene we know won't happen. Its like saying we didnt know who the fighters are because it's just an intro.

It's just the opening, it doesn't have to follow the rules.
The show has said no flying and the man who took Toriyama's outline and expanded it for the anime says there is no flying, I don't know what else you want.

Because that isnt what the Grand Priest said at all nor is it what the visual animation showed.

And then an episode after that said no flying and the producer said no flying, so it was probably a mistake on the part of the episode that didn't mention no flying.

We obviously disagree...no hard feelings. Honestly its not a huge deal. This is why I think there is flying. Notice how mini Goku flies until he reaches the end where the power suddenly halts.

Again, it was probably a mistake made by those making that episode, the man who expanded Toriyama's outline for the anime said there is no flying.

He might just be saying that there isn't a ban on flying outside of the ring. We'll see though.

Well if it is a mistake we can't really blame people for being confused. Don't get me wrong...I don't really care if they can or can't fly so long as the tournament is more enjoyable than U6 vs U7 which I thought was pretty terrible aside from introducing new characters.

Not to butt into this debate, but (and I realise this is translated from a language that can be quite ambiguous at times) there's not much room for interpretation in that sentence. It pretty bluntly says no flying. I guess we'll see when the time comes, though...

        Let's leave flying alone.

Do you guys think Goku could use Instant Transmission to avoid a ring out? I can see it happening once before the Grand Priest announces "U7 will not be penalized as there was no rule against such a move. However if used again Goku will be disqualified"

I'd like to see the original interview, because that translation is honestly quite strange in parts. For instance, i doubt a producer expands Toriyama's outline by himself. Is that even what an anime producer is supposed to do?

Interesting leaks we got this week. I gotta admit that Yamcha would be a better choice over Roshi like Goten and Trunks would be over Krillin and Tenshinhan, BUT It would be pretty lame if they decided to replace someone as a last-minute change, it wasn't a good idea on Champa Arc and wouldn't be a good one now.
