But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Ah yes, the NES games were an interesting bunch, each addressing some massive flaw it's direct prequel had, and adding some new flaw just to make sure the game would still piss people off in some way.
Dragonball 1 sucked in pretty much every way, so Dragonball 2 switched genres to a weird-ass mix of RPG and graphic adventure that didn't play much better.
Dragonball 3 ditched the adventure stuff, but made the maps more annoying and the ki system a complete dick to use properly.
Dragonball Z added more characters and a beter map, but the characters had to stay together on the map to fight together, which meant they had to move 1 or 2 squares at a time, and the new item system involved grinding a minigame over and over until it gave you good items.
Dragonball Z 2 made you control all characters at once, and let you play the item minigame at random instead of putting it on the map screen, but made the game so easy it was near-impossible to lose in the process.
The games DID get better and better, but Bandai did their best to ensure you wouldn't enjoy them TOO much.

Haha, I don't think anyone will disagree with you there. I totally meant "let Treasure make a Dragon Ball game" as a legitimate suggestion (which I'm only clarifying because now I'm reading it as a statement of confusion on my part, if that makes any sense). Treasure is by far one of my favorite developers, and one of the few who I think could really handle any license (I mean, they made a relatively decent game based on McDonald's), besides maybe Capcom. I honestly think that if anyone has a chance at making a really great Dragon Ball game, it would be one of them.Kunzait_83 wrote:God yes. Treasure is without question one of, if not possibly THE, greatest game development companies in the industry’s entire history. I can’t think of a single other company that has the kind of spotless (and I mean abso-fucking-lutely spotless) track record for producing absolutely nothing less than a string of games that by almost anyone’s standards would unquestionably qualify as a masterpiece.Hao_Kaiser wrote:So... We should just let Treasure make a Dragon Ball game?Herms wrote:On the subject on anime games that appeal to people who aren't fans of that anime, there's the Yu Yu Hakusho game that Treasure made for the Sega Megadrive. If you go over to Gamefaqs, half the reviews for it seem to start out "I've never seen the anime, but this game rocks!". There's also the Astro Boy game Treasure made, which got a lot of praise.
Dragon Ball seems to have developed a sort of stigma in the reviews industry, but I think Treasure's pedigree could get them to look past that.
Though I can't say I've played any of their fighters (I've heard good things, and would honestly be interested in seeing them do something with it), I would actually enjoy something in the vein of Astro Boy: Omega Factor or Gunstar Super Heroes (Two of my favorite games on the GBA). A little like Advanced Adventure, I guess... But developed by Treasure.
I mean, I liked Advanced Adventure, but I thought you were a little limited in what you could do, which led to me getting bored after playing for an hour, which never happened with either of the two Treasure games I mentioned, despite their similar styles.
... Or Ikaruga with Dragon Ball elements. That would be cool.

I had something on topic to write, but then people started mentioning Treasure, and now I really need to play Mischief Makers again.
Note to Treasure and Nintendo. Port it to DS already! And Kunzait, given the Treasure love and your current shooter kick... may I suggest Ikaruga?
Ok, in keeping with forum policies I'll veer on topic. Um, didn't critics absolutely love Super DBZ? I actually thought it was a bit overrated. And I'll agree with Kunzait on the LOG games. I really think LOG 1 is Taiketsu-bad. Maybe not quite, because I finished it once, and Taiketsu I returned the day after purchase. LOG 2 was a step up, but still failed on the same grounds as 1. Buu's Fury is a decent game, but it doesn't break the mold.
I personally think Hyper Dimensions is a spiffy fighter, though it is a bit slow for DBZ.
Outside of the crappy 1 v 1 fights, Advance Adventure is pretty tight though.

To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.
since we're talking about a game that we may never see, a few months back I started playing fallout 3 and, even though I'm not a sucker for RPG games, that one I really liked, and I thought that one game that would truly be recognized as a great DB game would be one just like fallout 3 but with Dragon Ball as the central story, Goku as the main character, goin on around exploring the world having a series of main quests and side quests which could involve fighting or not (but of course fighting would be unavoidable..!!), that would make for a great game.
I don't like to think that I'm the only one that can come up with an idea like that, so I keep my hopes up that a game like this is already in development because I don't mind waiting a few years to see a game nicely produced and not some half ass crap.
Another dragon ball game idea I had was a rts game where you control freeza and his henchmen in the quest for galaxy domination, that could be an interesting game too

Well he said Believe it, which is from Naruto, but I don't think that's a pun.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Sorry if I'm not very good at pun but how is that a pun? I remember they called BT2 for the Wii (the platform the Sparking games should be on, IMO) the best Fighting Game for that year, and were making making this big deal like "ZOMG the Dragon bawl gamez actually good!"Kunzait_83 wrote:Not that I remotely give two fucks and a half what they think about essentially anything at all (X-Play is damn near the absolute bottom level of gaming Hell for me) but didn't X-Play also give a favorable review to BT2 or BT3? The entire "The Sparking series is actually GOOD" thing seems to stem solely from the fact that there's tons of characters in it, which would only really excite Dragonball fans (holy shit, we can play as EVERYONE!) and shallow morons who think "games with lots of stuff in them" equals "good games", despite the quality of the stuff there's a lot of. The Sparking games are good fanservice for established fans, but for non-fans, I really don't see how they can find all these carbon copy characters so terribly interesting to play around with.Ex-Dubbie369 wrote:I remember they called BT2 for the Wii (the platform the Sparking games should be on, IMO) the best Fighting Game for that year, and were making making this big deal like "ZOMG the Dragon bawl gamez actually good!"Kunzait_83 wrote:Not that I remotely give two fucks and a half what they think about essentially anything at all (X-Play is damn near the absolute bottom level of gaming Hell for me) but didn't X-Play also give a favorable review to BT2 or BT3? I've been on a bit of a Marvel: Ultimate Alliance kick for some old reason or another (I've had the game on my 360 for quite sometime without touching it and has played through it four times on PS2 and Xbox). It's a pretty good game and could easily be palette swapped with Dragonball characters.
