Nobody should hold them to the same standards as Super Street Fighter II Turbo because that isn't even remotely what they’re trying to be. You might as well chastise Zone of the Enders for not having King of Fighters '97's fighting mechanics.
The Budokai games are a whole different matter. Those ARE trying to be more in the vein of “traditional” 3D fighting games, just with horribly dumbed down mechanics. I can understand the complaint with those games for this reason. For something as unique unto itself as Sparking though, I personally leave my Fighter’s Edge snobbery well at the door, same as I do with something like DBZ Legends (aka Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu), another attempt at a “DBZ Simulator” rather than a “true” fighting game.
Well Super Dragon Ball Z was designed by
Noritaka Funamizu of Street Fighter fame.
It's actually because of Noritaka Funamizu designing it that initially there were rumors that Capcom was making a Dragonball game.

Someone should really do a DBZ mod for Prototype..They can replace the tentacle like things and make it look like energy/ki/chi, etc. The possibilities are endless sorta.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.
