Re: Dragon Ball vs. Naruto?
I thought Naruto was good until Part 1 ended, and I careless about it. I don't see the point on comparing both series when they have nothing common. I think DB is a much better series, and even the people on sites like Narutofan find DB to be a better series also.

Re: Dragon Ball vs. Naruto?
This happens because majority of our mainstream civilisation are mindless idiots, mostly without any real opinion they tought by themselves.
I like most Dragon Ball (classic), Yu Yu Hakusho (manga is great, lot better then anime series) and Saint Seiya (This is shonen as hell + I like Greek mythology:D ) and also a little Naruto from Shonen genre.
I really don't like One Piece, gave up after 20 episodes, because pirates are quite boring stuff for me and I hated that childish and cheesy humour.
What I like is Sci-fi or Asian culture in anime works, that's what suits me well.
Other then these shonen series I'm watching mostly thing like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Space Battleship Yamato, Gundam and more mature works.
About series I don't like, I really don't care and also I can discuss your favourite series with you.
Also, unless I watch it, I'm not judging it. But really hate something? I can't.
You should watch what suits yourself and you should ignore dumb haters and teen ''otakus''.

You really should give one piece another chance. Just bear with it and give it a a chance. Its quite long, but it just keeps getting better and better. Its quite amazing actuallyMCDaveG wrote: I really don't like One Piece, gave up after 20 episodes, because pirates are quite boring stuff for me and I hated that childish and cheesy humour.
Re: Dragon Ball vs. Naruto?
Most people think that the majority of people around them are idiots. It's because of that it's too hard for them to grasp the fact that people are different, and that they indeed do choices in life, and have their own opinions, even though they just don't want to tell everyone all of their arguments why they do things like they do, or why they think things like they do.MCDaveG wrote:This happens because majority of our mainstream civilisation are mindless idiots, mostly without any real opinion they tought by themselves.
That's why threads like "What's up with the name filter" are so fucked up, because of that some participants there can't understand that people don't think alike, and that logic doesn't always have to win over what some people feel or experience.
It's sad, really.

I too thought it was boring, but after episode 30, it got really interesting and I've been hooked ever since. If you have to, skip ahead. You might find that you really like the show.MCDaveG wrote:I really don't like One Piece, gave up after 20 episodes, because pirates are quite boring stuff for me and I hated that childish and cheesy humour.

I dont know ? I mean I watched a little over 70 episodes of one piece but then I just kinda lost interest. I didn't think it was all that great.linkdude20002001 wrote:I too thought it was boring, but after episode 30, it got really interesting and I've been hooked ever since. If you have to, skip ahead. I think the manga of One Piece is better then the anime, but that's just me. Also I remember when people said Naruto would be the next DBZ in the USA, and it's seems like they where right. One thing that both Naruto and DB have in common that both Part II of Nartuo, and GT both suck in my opinon. I rather watch GT then Part II of Nartuo though.

I do find it a fascinating how while in the U.S, it's Naruto that's the popular one, in Japan it's One Piece that's more popular.
I mean, look at these two ANN articles:
One Piece #57 is Fastest Manga to Sell 2 Million

Japanese Comic Ranking, March 8-14

Re: Dragon Ball vs. Naruto?
Why is that fascinating? Makes perfect sense to me, especially given the dub OP initially got.
Re: Dragon Ball vs. Naruto?
Um, that's my opinion. ^^; I find the whole thing very interesting that the majority of manga audiences where I am in the U.S. tend to gravitate towards the Naruto type of story while in Japan the majority tends to gravitate to One Piece's type of story.
4Kids dub aside, Naruto has a much larger number of angsty pretty boys in the cast than One Piece does. There's also a larger death count whereas in One Piece nobody's been killed in real time until just recently; all previous deaths were in flashbacks. There's other factors too, like the art style and color schemes used along with how in the U.S. ninjas are the exotic ones, but again this is all just my personal theory.
It's impossible for me to argue my opinion because it's opinion. @_@ I thought my earlier post sounded a little ridiculous because I had to keep ending my sentences with "in my opinion" to clarify. That's why I didn't really use it in the 2nd most recent post in this thread. I thought me having to word it that way looked awful.

Re: Dragon Ball vs. Naruto?
One Piece's original dub was FAAAAR more prevalent and publicized than Viz's release of the manga. Especially with how incredibly slow and scarce the latter's release schedule was up until recently. And the fansub audience was relatively niche. That's not gonna do much for marketing or widescale popularity. Not when the competitor, Naruto, was getting plastered all over Cartoon Network non-stop at the time.Xyex wrote:What's the dub have to do with the manga?

I heard of both looooooooooooooong before either dub was ever even licensed. I'd seen plenty of Naruto long before that, too, because Ninjas and the art drew me to it over Pirates and OP's art.Kaboom wrote:One Piece's original dub was FAAAAR more prevalent and publicized than Viz's release of the manga. Re: Dragon Ball vs. Naruto?
I agree, Naruto was all over cartoon network which is where I originally saw it at and started getting into it. Whereas I never even gave OP a chance for the longest time cause it looked very lame because of the ridiculous opening that it had here in america... ughh...Kaboom wrote:One Piece's original dub was FAAAAR more prevalent and publicized than Viz's release of the manga. Re: Dragon Ball vs. Naruto?
What Kaboom said. It doesn't really become popular without an English dub, and just look at what happened when that got started. Of course unofficial versions were out already, but most people don't catch on until it comes on their t.v. Especially since that's an incredibly niche portion of OP's demographic, as well. Subs and manga were never mainstream, for obvious reasons.Xyex wrote:I heard of both looooooooooooooong before either dub was ever even licensed. That's not what I meant, I already said I accept the differency of people, I was talking about civilization on this planet, which isn't mature and don't have a taste. If the only problem on this planet was difference between people, we will be almost in utopic world.Godo wrote:Most people think that the majority of people around them are idiots. Eh, who are you to determine whether the civilization is mature and don't have taste? Maybe it's you and I who don't have taste and are immature. Or is the truth that taste and maturity is subjective to each individual?MCDaveG wrote: That's not what I meant, I already said I accept the differency of people, I was talking about civilization on this planet, which isn't mature and don't have a taste. The fact is, that the problems in the world are caused by difference between people.
Some are desperate for resources, so they arm up and attack other countries for those.
Some are emotional people, that do everything in their power for their loved ones, even murder.
Some are calm people, and they live their lives, and as long as they have a roof over their head and food on the table, they are content.
And then we have some of us, who become enraged beyond belief over a missing arm on DBKai, whilst the Orange Bricks did the same mistake.
The list can be made longer, but I think that I have made my point.
Then you shouldn't have brought it up, right?MCDaveG wrote: But I don't wanna make a big talk about it, it's useless.

Umm, yes. Yes it is.Olivier Hague wrote:Yeah. No.Godo wrote:Or is the truth that taste and maturity is subjective to each individual?
In the society there are norms that are established, but each individual have their own views about those things anyways, unless you are trying to imply that people aren't able to think for themselves, which then would include you too.
When we come to the term "norm" in Sociology, we have something called the "Game-theoretical analysis of norm". It represents the elements of a social situation surrounding a norm.
A norm is a rule of thumb of how a person should behave and think. But it also says that a rational person acts according to the rule if it's optimal to them. So in other words, one can support views on the general society, such as supporting the view of that an 18-year old is considered a grown up and as a mature person, whilst one for oneself have a different view on the matter.
The norms (and rules) of a society are grounded to create an equilibrium between it's population, so that it can function, but that doesn't need to mean that each and everyone of the population agree or have the same opinions.
