Goku is pure hearted and always did the right thing, that's what I believe and that's how I interpret it, although this can be debated it's the way I look at it, u may look at it differently and that's the beauty of DBZ
Actually, no, the only reason Goku spared Vegeta is because he wanted to fight him again. If you read the manga, Kuririn actually asked Goku if he was sparing Vegeta in the hope that he'd become good, and Goku replied that wasn't the case, that he just wanted to fight him again.
With Piccolo, it was that he wanted to give him a chance to train and get stronger so he could fight him again, as well as not wanting to kill Kami in the process. Nothing hints at the fact that Goku spared either of them because he hoped that they'd become good.

With the Kid Boo thing, I truly think that he intended just to battle Boo again, one-on-one.
You're right that's exactly how it did play out it in the Manga, if it's anyones fault it's mine for not specifying with version of DBZ I was talking about, well as you are well aware there is a divided fanbase, and there are different versions of the story. In the English Dub of DBZ which was the first DBZ that I was exposed to when I was a kid, the DBZ I grew up with, the DBZ that I hold closest to my heart, Goku spared all their lives for Mercy, compassion and love, there is no arguing with that. So yes what I wrote above is a fact, it's a fact that Goku sparred all their lives to give them a second chance to redeem themselves to show them mercy, compassion and love, in the English version. That's not how it played out in the Japanese version but how it did play out in the English version. So obviously we're talking about two different versions, and yes you're right when referring to your version, i'm not arguing with you, but I am also right when referring to my version, and there is no arguing with that. Here is the actual quote from the episode with why he sparred Vegeta in case you wanna look at it, the episode is called Mercy http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Dragon_Bal ... on_1#Mercy - it's the Fifth row after the title Mercy. You don't have to look at it i'm just putting it there as proof to support my version.

Please I ask that you respect my opinion as I do yours, even if you don't agree with it.

@Big Momma
That's exactly what I was saying in my other post, I totally agree, it's not what you've done, it's the intent of why you did it, was it for the greater good?? etc. That's exactly what I was talking about lol awesome :)

Does Bardock landing in my backyard count as a fantasy? <3

But really, I like to think about things on Planet Vegeta. I would really like to see Goku's mother, and interaction with Bardock. I'd like to see more missions that Bardock and his crew went on. More of King Vegeta (and.. his mate?.. aka.. Vegeta's mom) and how the planet functioned. Those sorts of things that they make doujinshis about. I wasn't satisfied with measly flashbacks and one Bardock movie! Lol.

I do agree that Son Goku in the English dub certainly had different intentions (and perhaps, a different personality) for sparing Piccolo and Vegeta than in the manga. It seems that FUNimation were trying to make Goku more a superhero rather than a warrior.

Anyway, just in case anyone wants to refer back to this, here are the Viz manga versions of Goku sparing Piccolo & Vegeta.

Viz Manga - Son Goku sparing Piccolo

Son Goku: If I let you die, Kami would die too. Besides, I don't like the idea o' losin' my arch-enemy yet.
Piccolo: Heh heh heh...You never learn. Your naivete will be your death. The Great Demon King shall withdraw...for now. But the day shall come for you to die...and for your world to pass into this grasp.
Kuririn: Why didn't you seal him in that jug?! Moron!!
Piccolo: Ha--ha ha ha!! Enjoy this life...until I return to take it!!
Son Goku: Train hard, Piccolo! Get as strong as you can...And I'm gonna try to pass that strength--by one full level!

Viz manga -- Son Goku sparing Vegeta

Son Goku: I'm too hurt...to use my voice...Kuririn...I have just one request...please...let the Saiyan go...
Kuririn: A-Are you insane?! He killed our friends, he tried to kill us...He tried to kill everybody in the whole world! If we let him go now, he'll regain his strength and come back again!
Son Goku: Yeah...probably...
Kuririn: Are you thinking he's gonna see the light, like Piccolo? That he's gonna turn over a new leaf? Well, forget about it! He's not like that!! He doesn't have a leaf to turn over! He doesn't have a speck of decency in him! He's a killing machine! He's a--
Son Goku: I know...and I know how dangerous he is...but...I don't know how to say it...when I saw him about to die...I thought...what a waste...
Kuririn: What a..."waste"?!
Son Goku: I trained under Kaiô, the Lord of Worlds...I thought I'd hit the peak of power...but Vegeta was so far above me...! I was shocked...scared...
But somewhere inside...I was happy. I was...thrilled...to be fighting such power...I guess it's my Saiyan blood...it's not smart...I know...
Kuririn: ...Rrr...
Son Goku: But next time...I swear I'm gonna surpass him...gonna beat him...!! I know it's wrong, but please...! Let me do it myself...!!
Kuririn:...........But........
(drops sword and goes *Hff*)
Kuririn: You saved the Earth...I guess you've got the right...to have it your way...
But listen, Goku...! Nex ttime, you better kick his butt!!
Son Goku: (Heh...) Yeah...!
