Yeah, but does anyone actually care about the plot of Pokemon?
Ash and co. go to a new region, meet some random people that they'll never see again, win gym badges/ribbons, thwart a evil team's plans and participate in region leagues/grand festivals that they never win. Rinse and repeat.
It's one of the longest running Anime series of all time.

Hey, if Diamond and Pearl took place nearly simultaneously to Gold and Silver, then what is Jasmine doing on the Sunnyshore beach?
The people have a right to know.
Also, you've clearly never played the games. Somehow with nothing but an open world and silent protagonists, they've jumbled together more implied canon and character development than the anime (which is always, always aimed at five-year-olds, so that makes sense).
Also, Dragon Ball or something.

I can't speak for the anime, but the Pokemon franchise were originally video games, and unless they're in-depth RPGS like Final Fantasy, gamers tend not to care about storylines and more about the gameplay, and Pokemon fans care more about the "catch-'em-all" aspect of Pokemon (the core of the series) than the gameplay. Mario games have had the same "Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach, so Mario rushes to save her" plot for decades, yet gamers still love them, because they focus more on the gameplay (which is probably why games like that are so popular even today, because the game developers don't focus on making some deep story mode that intrudes on the gameplay).
But I'm getting seriously off-topic here.
I haven't properly watched Dragon Ball GT, but from the parts I've seen and what I've heard, it's pretty rubbish. There are only a couple of things I like about it.

This is categorically false. The meat and potatoes of the series for any long-time fan has become the deeply complex competitive aspect.
I feel comfortable going off-topic about this because I know the site owner would back me up.

For the life of me, I've never understood this argument. This is the kid who won't eat his peas but has never tried them before. It's one thing if someone's telling you to watch a random series that you've heard is terrible, but you already like
Dragon Ball. You think you'd at least want to give a
chance to something that shares its elements before throwing it on the floor and waiting for mommy to clean it up.

The only thing I really likes was the music which I was treated to with its release in the UK.
The first time I saw anything GT related was a few low quality GIF animations of Super Saiyan 4 punching Baby in the gut and blasts him in the face and i thought it looked badass.
I was quite young when I watched it the first time so I mostly enjoyed the fights but I hated what happened to Trunks since the opening was quite misleading with him having a sword.
At this point in time I really don't care for GT now that I know as much as I do about Dragonball/Z but no matter how much time passes, the music will always be awesome.

I've played the games, but I was merely saying the anime has plotholes, just like GT, but nobody complains, so why complain about GT huh?
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

As much as I like
GT and argue for ignoring the many, many plotholes in
Dragon Ball, that's comparing apples to oranges.

I like both GT and the Pokemon Anime because they're fun to watch and entertaining, regardless of how many plotholes they both have. If you think about the plotholes while watching these Anime, you're not going to enjoy them as much.

Well, OK, that then. I haven't played that many Pokemon games (I only own Yellow), but I know how popular it is in the gaming community and just made an assumption.

No, it's just that I barely watch Dragon Ball in the first place, so why would I bother watching something I've heard is even worse? I understand what you mean about giving things a chance, but I've just never gone out of my way to watch the whole series through and I don't think I ever will, because everything I know, have seen and have heard about it is bad.

I like GT because it's a continuation. It's got characters I know and love, it's got a new adventure for them, yippie I'm in. I like Super Saiyan 4, I like Baby, I like Super 17, and I like... um... "Omega Shenron". I HATE the tedious adventure they go on in the beginning, I hate that Goku's a little kid, and I absolutely hate the lack of participation from other characters. I will say this, many people hate this, but I love Vegeta's new hair (Gohan type, not the big bush with mustache one) and I think that Vegeta vs Baby-Gohan/Goten was freaking awesome.

It's animation was consistent, the color scheme doesn't appear that much different with each release of it. OMG, TOO BRIGHT! TOO DARK! A DERP-DE-DER. That has Z beat there.
I kinda wish they would "Kai" GT, they could improve the pacing, fix any plot holes easily and unlike Z I don't think re-animated scenes wouldn't look all that out-of-place.
It's not that bad. I like it, it depends on my mood. Sometimes I love it more than Z other times, I don't like it as much.
Also, it's got awesome music, BGM and theme wise. I like it just as much as the Z (Japanese) score.
I also like how they made Super Saiyan 4, I honestly could not see them make another golden, minor, hair change design again. Plus, re-entering their Oozaru origin was a nice tie in. As Toriyama said "Super Saiyan 4, was it I or Nakatsuru-kun who made it?" It does seem like a Toriyama design if you ask me.

Ironically, GT gets praised for its music, but FUNimation managed to take, in some people's eyes, the biggest positive GT had and completely negate it with music that makes Bruce Faulconner look like a musical legend.

Exactly why I find the original English version unwatchable.
Not just bad. Like, unwatchable. A real struggle to get through.

Yeah, the BGM for the Japanese version made GT watch able for me.

I'm sorry that you hate me and that I was and never will I ever return.
The End.
...Of my nightmare.
Dang shame it is, but at least your point has been validated by my invalid claim. Apology sent.
