I tried to go for something that's a little more realistic, and feasible in terms of casting. I hope you all enjoy.

Cast

(Click names for highlight videos)

Jon Foo - Son Goku
You may remember him as Ryu from the 'Street Fighter Legacy' short film, or the live action 'Tekken' adaptation. Hands down, my favourite pick for Son Goku.

Jeeja Yanin - Chi Chi
Thailand hottie with a whole lot of kick assery. Jeeja Yanin has captivated action junkies since her debut in 2008 with the film 'Chocolate'.

Chow Yun Fat - Muten Roshi
Chow Yun Fat fit the role perfectly. James Wong and the crew of 'Dragonball: Evolution' made a great decision in casting Mr.Chow. Too bad that rendition of the Dragonball mythos lacked the ambiance and magic that the original work had.

Emmy Rossum - Bulma
An actress that seemingly had quite the interest in giving a good performance as the heroine Bulma. A great choice, and I wouldn't change it. Again, shame about how the film turned out.

Ken Leung - Kururin
It's not a surprise that fans often deliberately go straight for finding a "little person" to fill the role of Kururin for a live action adaptation. However, I do find it a surprise that fans overlook the talent that is Ken Leung. He fits the bill perfectly imo. He is a versatile performer, and would definitely carry that emotional weight with him into the role of Kururin.

Rain - Yamcha
'Ninja Assassin' says it all, I think that Rain would fit very well as Yamcha.

Terry Fan - Tenshinhan
Terry Fan Siu-Wong has been in the entertainment industry for a good two decades at this point. Some of you may remember him from the cult classic 'Riki-Oh - Story of Riki', or perhaps you may have seen him in the recent asian blockbuster 'Ip Man'. I had trouble deciding between Terry Fan, or actual shaolin practitioner Yu Xing to don the role of Tien, but I ultimately settled with Terry Fan due to his charisma on-screen as both the cocky villain, or the righteous hero.

Scott Adkins - Piccolo
I'm sure that most action junkies have heard of action choreographer and performer, Scott Adkins by now. He has worked on films such as 'Wolverine' and 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. With his stature and athleticism, there is not a doubt in my mind that Scott Adkins would make for a convincing and intimidating Piccolo.

Andy On - Vegeta
You may have seen Andy On in the Jackie Chan blockbuster 'New Police Story', or perhaps the recently asia-release, 'True Legend'. Andy On is an underrated performer of whom has yet to achieve super-stardom despite being in the industry for a little over a decade now. Andy On speaks fluent english, and from a personal standpoint as a fan of his work, I think that this guy could prove to be a charismatic Vegeta.

Chia Hui Liu - Tsuru Sennin
This one was a no-brainer. Gordon Liu would be the perfect opposite to legendary Chow Yun Fat.

James Marsters - Demon King Piccolo/ Kami
James Marsters was awesome in 'Dragonball: Evolution'. Great choice.

Brian Cox - Commander Red
Not a realistic choice, and I doubt that Cox would even consider being a part of a live action adaptation of 'Dragonball'. However, if it happened, I'd say Brian Cox would be brilliant as Commander Red 8)

Collin Chou
Collin Chou ('The Matrix Reloaded', 'The Forbidden Kingdom') would make for a grand performance if given the chance to play Tao Pai Pai.

Nathan Jones
You say Goldberg? I say Nathan Jones.

Luke Goss
Luke Goss as Freeza. Don't really have a commentary on it, except that I just have a gut feeling he'd make for an awesome Freeza.

So there you go. I'm actually surprised how long this took me. The good part of 3 hours of browsing. Enjoy!

Why isn't Jackie Chan as Roshi obvious to people!? I mean I feel like he was the sole inspiration for the character.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Actually, Jackie Chan was in a pornographic film 36 years ago.

I'd cast unknowns for the main characters, the villains would all be people you all should recognise.

Mark Hamill/Verne Troyer - Pilaf

Verne Troyer would make for a fun, creepy Pilaf, he might not have the right voice though, if possible I'd want Hamill to voice him.

But I always imagined him as a dictator in cahoots with the Red Ribbon Army to steal the Dragon Balls and then after being defeated and kicked from his country, he could raise Piccolo Daimao at the end of the first film.

Chris Evans - General Blue
I think it would be funny since he's... gay and is Captain America, especially if they gave him a German accent... his sexuality wouldn't come up in the film though.

Donnie Yen as Tao Pai Pai

Pretty simple, he's the perfect Tao Pai Pai.

Christopher Ryan - Commander Red
Christopher Ryan looks exactly like Red and has a hilariously over the top voice most of the time, he's mostly known for The Young Ones, Bottom, My Family and Doctor Who I think. In Doctor Who he was a slug thing in the '80s and the Sontaran in recent episodes.

Samuel L Jackson - Commander Black
Who wouldn't want him as Black? And answering to Christopher Ryan? It would match the manga perfectly.

Kelsey Grammer - Piccolo Daimao
Kelsey Grammer has the right voice, but not the right build. So actor in make up it is.

As a joke I'd cast David Hyde Pierce as Piano. Piano always sounded like Niles in my head anyway.

Adam Baldwin would be the perfect Nappa, right voice, right build, taller than Bill Goldberg too. "Ooh, he's bald, muscular and wears black trunks, he's perfect." No. This is not how you cast a movie.

The Ginyu Corps would probably have to have armor more like Power Rangers and possibly with helmets reflecting their appearance in the manga, to make them seem less threatening, but the more they fight the more you see that they're ugly monsters.

The Helmets would be like this...

Ginyu - Horned, his real horns possibly through holes.
Buhter - That... thing on his head, just on the helmet...
Jheese - His long hair coming out the top.
ReaC'm - Orange mohawk coming through the top, probably...
Ghurdt - Standard looking Sentai helmet only with accentuated eyes on the front and the side.

Freeza would be a challenge...Tatsuya Fujiwara in heavy make up to make him seem lizard like, voiced by Tim Curry.

Twins could work as 17 and 18... again, unknowns.

Cell would have to be a towering monster with more elements from the characters he's related too, his scales need to be black and leathery with a golden green tint, voiced by Patrick Stewart, he always seemed like the man for the job.

Majin Boo would be more complex, and work mainly in CGI, but prosthetics would come in handy for the face, they worked for Lord of the Rings...

But I just watched all of the Extended Lord of the Rings and read past the chapter with Gollum in The Hobbit so Andy Serkis would definitely be my Majin Boo, he's a surreal and physically expressive actor who would definitely bring Majin Boo to life. And totally in CGI just like Gollum.

Sir Ian McKellen - King Dabra
An old king of demons needs a deep and powerful voice, McKellen is perfect. Again, another stunt actor in make up.

Ian McDiarmid - Madoshi Babidi
I can't help but think of Palpatine...

The Majin Boo arc is magical so it would be perfect to have characters who seem familiar in that sense.

I think about it too much... like I know what I want for the armor, just X-Men like suits with metal gladiator like armour over that which expands like a watch when you slip it on your hand or a movie Transformer.
And scouters wouldn't have that glass part, they'd project holograms.

Image

I'm starting to think we don't need Goku to grow up and have a kid, Goku could be the hero the entire time...

That way each movie could lead into the next.

Pilaf raises Piccolo at the end of movie 1.
Raditz lands at the end of movie 2 after he detected Goku's power defeating Piccolo.
Vegeta sets off for Namek at the end of movie 3.
Trunks tells everyone about the cyborgs at the end of movie 4.
Goku/Gohan's power killing Cell is detected far off at the end of the universe by Babidi at the end of movie 5.

Recoome - Vernon Wells

Burter - Shaq (non speaking role)

Guldo - Deep Roy

Five movies? I just don't see that happening ever. A high budget trilogy - yes. I also wouldn't vouch for the films to follow all the way into the Buu arc at all. I think that a nicely packaged trilogy that ends with Freeza or Cell would be the most feasible.

Also, Verne Troyer as Pilaf? Sure, but I'd go for an unknown. Plus, it doesn't have to be a "little person", it could be a child actor if need be. Donnie Yen as Tao Pai Pai has crossed my mind on occasions, but he has become a very high profile actor, and I honestly see Collin Chou in his place instead. Furthermore, the resemblence between Blue, and Evans is there, but I wouldn't see it happening. :lol: Now, Sam Jackson as Black? *Thumbs up. He's an actor who's usually up for any project it seems.

And by the way, I only chose to critisize your ideas because it's the most interesting so far out of most of who has posted; of which are all whacky casting choices in my honest opinion, without offense.

Hellspawn28 wrote:Some great casting choices in this thread. I feel like a reboot should be based off the Saiyajin arc since that's the saga that a lot of people are familiar with and people would pay good money to see Goku and Vegeta fight on the big screen. A budget and a movie done in a tone similar to the Transformers movies and Iron Man 1-2 could work for a DBZ movie.

My dream casting:

Dong-gun Jang (The Warrior's Way) as Goku

<snip>

John Leguizamo (Romeo + Juliet, Spawn, Ice Age 1-3) as Kuririn (I think his voice and humor would fit well with Kuririn)

<snip>

Robin Shou (Mortal Kombat, Beverly Hills Ninja, Death Race) as Yamucha

<snip>

Adrien Brody (Petter Jackson's King Kong, Predators) as Tenshinhan

<snip>

Danny DeVito (Batman Returns, Erin Brockovich, Big Fish) as Yajirobe

<snip>

Idris Elba (Sometimes in April, American Gangster, Thor) as Piccolo

<snip>

Ian Anthony Dale (Tekken, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) as Raditz

<snip>

Bill Goldberg as Nappa (Everyone wanted him as Nappa for years, so why not?)

<snip>

Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Batman Begins, Inception) as Vegeta

<snip>

I was unable to find roles for Master Roshi, Kami, and Kid Gohan. I think King Kai and other minor characters should be CG with the Funi voice cast for their voice overs.
40, 45, 50, no, 55, okay, 32 (younger than your Goku), not an actor, 50.

your women are half okay though.

What is with you guys and Danny Devito? He's is funny and all but he would be the last person(not to mention some others mentioned) I would think about when casting a kung fu movie.

Danny DeVito is great! I can see him as Kaio, I think of Frank Reynolds when I think of DeVito now, which is pretty far off but a short old funny guy they both are.

Who wouldn't want Danny DeVito in make up telling off a monkey?! Hell, it'll happen in Always Sunny SOME day...

Regarding the SIX movies I said, I though it would be cool for it to go on that far, if we did a Piccolo/Vegeta/Freeza trilogy, it would make people think the rumours were true, and would make us look like jerks for leaving out the Red Ribbon Army and Cell, because these two stories could be joined. And no Boo movie? It would be a real spectacle.

Unfortunately this is a dream cast and hopefully DBE killed any interest of any other jerk getting it totally wrong.

Did you had to quote the whole images? Not to mention this is a dream casting thread, which means you can pick any actor you want. I mean I can pick Tom Green as Goku if I wanted too :P.

Actually, with a little creative thinking, you can easily rework the entire Dragonball series into a film that is roughly a little over two hours. Z is where the challenge is at.

He'd make a great Oolong.

Also, John Leguizamo as Krillin would be interesting but too funny to watch.

That was a really cool video. :3

The IMDB site lists Jon Foo for Goku on their DB live action reboot page. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1754820/

I don't know if the listing is real or not though; especially since it's got next year as the release date. The release date makes me think it's fake because I don't think a reboot could be put together that fast.

IMDB is not as always right and there is no DB reboot in works since we would know about it by now. Also releasing on in 2012 is a bad idea with TDKR, The Avengers, Spider-Man, and the new American Godzilla movie all coming out in the same year.

Also does it matter how old the actor has to be to play as Goku during the Vegeta arc? I mean Andrew Garfield is playing as Spider-Man, who is a 12th grade high school student in the movie and he is in his late 20's.

Yeah, it's not strange for actors to play characters younger than themselves.
