Wow, where did you get those examples, Kei? O.o
Uchiyama's earlier episodes (before he began to key animate all the time) did have their moments. I'm still in love with that cut of Tenshinhan dashing toward Yamcha, Yamcha leaping in the air, and then Tenshinhan using his hand to push himself into the air during the Rouga-fuu-fuu-ken insert theme.

They were sold on Yahoo! Auctions. I just saved the images on products' pages.

Wow. The originals were so unique looking, then Uchiyama....did his thing....and well....phuq. The thing with Last house....the animation itself a lot of times are great, but the way the characters look make it look like its terrible. This scene is one of the best I've seen from Last House:

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Last House used to range from pretty good, to really great. There were moments in their episodes before the Cell-arc that had wonderful animation. Here's such an example from episode 59:
That's literally the best thing about the episode with Bulma's fight against crabs. I also remember some really greatly drawn moments of this caliber during their episode of Goku and Nappa's fight. It's a shame that their animation isn't this good around the end of the series.
This just doesn't compare:
It's especially bad when you compare it to the same scene from the previous episode, animated by Tadayoshi Yamamuro:

Yeah... Every video on YouTube I've ever seen from "season two" took the brightness to a whole new level. It's especially a shame that nobody ever mentions it...

Wow, I didn't actually know Last House did that episode... I always thought it looked too nice to be them.

Most of Last Houses episodes were actually really good before the Cell arc. I would say Last House kind of took a nose dive during the Daimou arc but then got back into the swing of things again until the Cell arc. Then ever since that point, it looks terrible!
Some of those old Keyframes before Uchiyama fixed them look horrible. On good thing from Uchiyama is that he stayed true to the Dragonball art style.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

The 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai had some amazingly animated fights.

It was with episode #145 that Last House started to hit it low. Uchiyama and Obara were the only two key animators on their episodes that we being credited. Shida Naotoshi left (and only returned for episode #159, an episode supervised by Miyahara Naoki), as had the other one or two credited key animators, meaning there was less talent to do the key frames. Sometimes, there would be one or two really well done shots, but otherwise it really was terrible. Although, I just rewatched Dragon Ball GT episode #2 this night and it wasn't too bad. Hmm...

Damn those are some good looking pictures of Goku punching the air.
