Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

I'm having a hard time figuring out if this is a serious answer or not. In that sense, Nappa also has great knowledge of horticulture.Well, for starters, he a great knowledge of horticulture
Re: Son Goku: A represenative for people in the Autism spect
Nah, I don't think Goku has any mental illnesses.

They were talking about Tullece.Perfect wrote:I think he's referring to the 2008 special?Michsi wrote:I'm having a hard time figuring out if this is a serious answer or not. In that sense, Nappa also has great knowledge of horticulture.Well, for starters, he a great knowledge of horticulture

Oh I should have read more. Maybe he's talking about the whole Tree of Might business.

Again, planting seeds = above average brain power?
Which is why I'm reluctant to think this was a serious answer.

Well I never said it was plausible, I was just pointing out what I think he meant by it. :p

No, I got that. Felt the need to add a better explanation, but now feel it was rather redundant

Re: Son Goku: A represenative for people in the Autism spect
I know that this thread has gone from a person expressing an opinion to a discussion on Son Goku intelligence.
But after studying audiences at university for my media studies degree, I looked into the ways in which pop culture texts like television shows help people in their personal lives.
After reading a couple of the responses I have to say I have no problem seeing 'Gokuman1993' option on Son Goku representing autism especially if it helps people
'Gokuman1993' expressed that he had autism; if he sees Goku as a positive influence in dealing with his “condition” (I’m not a fan of the term “mental illness” due to its negative connotations) I have no problem with seeing Goku in this way.
every persons viewpoint on our interests are different due to our upbringing and interests as such we individually approach things differently from each other (which is why I love forums ,) I’m not a giant Son Goku fan but I can see why people enjoy the character and what the character represents to people.

The point I was making is he actively searched for planets capable of growing the tree. Not just any idiot can do that, not to mention his big-ass fucking ship, he would have to have an understanding of something to keep that running, or at least who to hire.Michsi wrote:No, I got that. Maybe my argument is flawed, but I'd say Tullece is definitely more intelligent than a man with childhood brain damage.
If Goku has a problem, and he can't fix it by punching it, he WILL give up.

1. Can I eat it?
1b. If yes, do I need to kill it?
1c. If no, do I need to fight it?
2. Can I fight it?
2b. If yes, fight it and go to 1.
2c. If no, ignore it.
Goku spent three months after Gohan died attempting to fight the Sun.

What you are describing implies no great feats of intelligence, especially in a universe like DB. It's no different than Goku being able to use the Dragon Radar or being able to use a space ship. The point I was making is he actively searched for planets capable of growing the tree. Not just any idiot can do that, not to mention his big-ass fucking ship, he would have to have an understanding of something to keep that running, or at least who to hire.

What was it about Tullece that seemed so impressive?
The brain damage you are talking about is nothing other than memory loss. It's even said so in the story.
You mean like how he tried to convince the old Kaioshin to let them use the Dragon Balls? Or how he tricked Piccolo into growing bigger? If Goku has a problem, and he can't fix it by punching it, he WILL give up.
Mental retardation is out of the picture . His abbility to learn and adapt and take care of himself even as a kid make this notion not even remotley true.

Re: Son Goku: A represenative for people in the Autism spect
I don't think "Mental retardation" is the correct term to use in Goku's situation. He's just an idiot, which is obvious considering his complete lack of schooling.
Re: Son Goku: A represenative for people in the Autism spect
I honestly think Goku's just backwards due to his isolation from the rest of society rather than any mental deficiency or brain damage. Which makes me wonder: What would Goku be like if he HAD been living amongst society his whole life? Would there be people questioning his mental capacities then?

Re: Son Goku: A represenative for people in the Autism spect
I think he'd still be somewhat asocial. As a Saiyan, they love fighting above all else. Their life basically consists of that and the main things that they care or think about food and battle. Goku has made some massively selfish decisions that have absolutely nothing to do with his naivety or asociality.Kiddo626 wrote:I honestly think Goku's just backwards due to his isolation from the rest of society rather than any mental deficiency or brain damage. He doesn't behave like an infant or even an 8 year old. He's normal except he's a very stupid and carefree man.Rocketman wrote:That is pretty much the definition of mental retardation, being stuck in a childlike mental state.SylentEcho wrote:He never really grows up

Yeah, but... in DB, CATS can talk.Kingdom Heartless wrote:Naive does not equal retarded. He's a kid who grew up isolated from society and raised himself for years.
The fact that he actually talks rather than just barks at things proves some intelligence. It's more that he was underdeveloped, not retarded.
And count better than Goku.
