How the Hell is Broly so popular?!
Re: How the Hell is Broly so popular?!
Uh, I'm pretty sure he is.
Hardcore DB fans might resent his popularity but Broly is huge with more casual fans.
I can think of no other reason why he got those updated SSJ forms in the video games besides fanservice for his fandom.

Hey there:Kishido wrote:Broly is boss... Seriously love the guy even if he seems a bit emo
Just so you're aware, this thread has been dead for well over a year. Unless there's something truly significant and relevant to toss into an existing conversation, it would probably make more sense to either look for a more-recent/currently-ongoing thread or create a new conversation entirely.

The same reason I think Laxus from Fairy Tail is pure awesome, he was a complete powerhouse that curbstomped everyone and was only beaten through teamwork and he just oozes "I am beyond f..king powerful" when he powers up. Also I think misconceptions though the Funi dub like "he can blow up a galaxy" and "he always gets stronger" are a big factor.
Re: How the Hell is Broly so popular?!
He's awesome. I can't explain it, but i like the idea of another SuperSayin that doesn't "level up" he's just a monster. He represent what Goku and the others would be if they gave in to their savagery and let loose. He's pretty much the ultimate enemy.

He's an abnormally powerful Saiyan.... That's why people like him. People, however, can't seem to see past that to realize he's a bland character. His sole purpose for living is to get revenge on Kakarot for making him cry, his vocabulary is very limited and, IMO, he's not as strong as people like to think he is.

Re: How the Hell is Broly so popular?!
I think people complain far too much about how Broly has "no personality," to the point of being fairly ridiculous and hypocritical. For all the championing of the Buu saga around here and deflection of criticisms of it being a story-telling nightmare, you have to deal with 50+ episodes of a very bland, non-motivated piece of chewing gum as a villain.
Broly is at least one thing that a villain should be, which is an entity that truly inspires awe in the viewer with their frightening strength. He has a good character design and doesn't have to use cheap plot tricks to make people enjoy him - he's a super saiyan, he's demented, and he's strong as hell, and that simple formula proves more than enough to create a captivating enemy for our heroes.
...Having said all this, he should've only appeared in ONE movie. And it probably should've had a better ending.

Re: How the Hell is Broly so popular?!
What does the funi dub have to do with him blowing up a galaxy? That believe comes from the opening of the movie where they show a galaxy disappear and the dub and original lines aren't that much different. I recall people saying he could destroy galaxies before the dub even came out. Yeah with power scaling it doesn't really make sense but its pretty easy to see how people believe it. And I'm also pretty sure that people believed he got stronger all the time before the dub too. The line isn't as clear but in the original he says his ki is raising and since he is so powerful despite being held back its again pretty easy to see where people get that idea.ringworm128 wrote:The same reason I think Laxus from Fairy Tail is pure awesome, he was a complete powerhouse that curbstomped everyone and was only beaten through teamwork and he just oozes "I am beyond f..king powerful" when he powers up. Broly is popular because he's just so unstoppable. The ultimate bulldozer.

At least that's how the video games portray him. He keeps getting put up against Gogeta.mAcChaos wrote:Broly is popular because he's just so unstoppable. The ultimate bulldozer.

In Budokai 3 Broly overpowers Gogeta's might but get's incinerated by a Kamehameha. He was physically stronger but maybe not as powerful.TheGmGoken wrote:?dbzfan7 wrote:

Still the fight he made Gogeta bleed and injured most likely didn't help. Then in BT3 you had him fight evenly.dbzfan7 wrote:In Budokai 3 Broly overpowers Gogeta's might but get's incinerated by a Kamehameha. He was physically stronger but maybe not as powerful.TheGmGoken wrote:?dbzfan7 wrote:

Cooler gave SSJ2 Gohan a hard time as well. So we can sum it up as messed up game logic.TheGmGoken wrote: Still the fight he made Gogeta bleed and injured most likely didn't help. Then in BT3 you had him fight evenly.

That was suppose to be Goku lol. The game made an error. Hence why Goku was all hurt afterwards.dbzfan7 wrote:Cooler gave SSJ2 Gohan a hard time as well.
