If you had free reign over a DB reboot

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I would want to be really different rather then telling the same story that Akira Toriyama already told. I would make 3-4 live action movies I would want them to be darkish but with that adventurous feel that DBZ has still slightly intact. I would make the first movie based on the Saiyans and I would NOT have Piccolo die, instead I would have him still act cold towards Gohan. Movie 2 would cover the Namek and Freeza arcs, there would thousands of Namekians and thousands of Freeza's soldiers on Namek so there would be an all out war on Namek, Nail would be much much stronger then he is in the anime, he would have a battle power of about 4000 but after fusing other warrior types about 600,000 (620,000 at maximum). I wouldn't have Zarbon and Dodoria in the movie, instead I would have the Ginyu Force already on Namek helping Freeza out. The Namekians would be much smarter and would not just have the Dragonballs out in the open for anyone to take. Over the course of the movie Piccolo would slowly act more nicer to Gohan. Instead of trying to kill Goku after he get's hit with the Genki Dama Freeza would try to kill Gohan causing Piccolo to jump in front of the blast. Now for Goku's transformation. I would have Goku cry, yes you read it correctly CRY! Though after Freeza says that he is going to kill Gohan Goku would snap. I'm still think up ideas so I'l post more later.

This may sound controversial, but If I did DB, I'd have taken it in a DKR/Watchmen bent (two of the best comics out there), with many of the Shonen genre's aspects being deconstructed completely. For instance:

- For instance, Goku is gullible and is often lied to, because he is so naive, and helps the villains at times because he is so liable to being misled.
- Yamcha's criminal life (he was a bandit for crying out loud) gets Goku in a lot of trouble.
- Kame-Sennin's training leaves him with significant back pain (the turtle shells) and other physical and emotional scars
- Kami comes across as being far colder and distant from his responsibilities and his lookout is every bit as lovecraftian as Rl'yeh.
If I Got to Z:
- Gohan would be sectioned under the DB Universe's equivalent of the Mental Health Act following the fight with the Saiyans, and Chi-Chi vanishes after learning about what happened to her son.
- When Goku turns Super Saiyan following Krillin's Death, he begins a Majin Buu-esque rampage, which forces the Kaioshin to step in and kill him.

Hey, a lv.100 Charizard vs a wild lv.4 Caterpie. It happens.

I would just create 10 or so "Movies" which are self-contained specials, each having a different centric character. They could help to add backstory & arcs to characters. These "Movies" would fit squarely into continuity. The earliest being during the undetailed years before Tenkaichi Budokais in the original Dragonball and the latest being Post-Boo Saga. Each one would have a different feel to it with the main subject focus being how the obstacle/villain of the special relates to the centric character. Around special 3 or 4, a slow-burn conflict will arise which will culminate in the final special (#10). The tenth would also be the only "Movie" to be multi-centric, showcasing both Vegeta and Son Goku as the centric characters.

Each would be 60 minutes, HD, and newly animated with re-composed and expanded themes from the original series. The final film would be 120 minutes and essentially be the swan song of everything DragonBall.

If I'll do a full feature western movie on some anime motives or franchise, I'll choose the 3D rendered stuff like that terrible Astro-boy was.....
I don't see Dragon Ball working as live-action, maybe if it was huge flick like of the size of Avengers..... That was awesome movie, hell, I was really surprised.
But that will never happen as western can't do a decent adaptation of Eastern works, including those horrible remakes like Shutter or Ju-on.......
I think everyone is better at doing what they actually can do and is in their nature, Asia the wu-sha and anime genre, West the comic books.

PS: Have english version of Gintama manga and half of the fun and jokes is away for casual reader, as he don't know the Japanese popculture and stuff
and staff of the translation didn't help either by not explaining tons of the references or translating the jokes ''weird'' to give them it's own meaning.....
To hell with it.
FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat: Funky_Strudel
PS5: Dynamixx88
Trust me, I'm millenial and a designer.

I know what I'd re-do for one.

I know it may sound a bit silly but I would make the earthlings and other non-saiyans in the spotlight for EVEN longer than they were in Z :D

I always hated how they became minor characters and forced to sit and watch as Goku and the others fought against Cell, Frieza and Majin Buu.
I would have them be able to fight alongside them as main characters for a lot longer if I remade DB, Z or GT :D

and I would keep them around if a reboot of DB were to happen, I'd keep the original characters and if I were to have new characters, they shall be working alongside the characters from the old show. :D
Wishes she can change her name to YamchaFan (her name everywhere else)
Obssessed with the Earthlings and the original DB anime

Imagine if Muten Roshi actually went to Namek and kicked the hell out of Freeza's forces :O

I've just thought of some more little things I'd like to change. One is that there would be more actual martial arts later in the series, rather than it turned into a super-powered free-for-all, especially since I would have the old characters last longer or just leave completely. The other thing I'd want to do is make the afterlife more mysterious. I'd never show Heaven or Hell, and I'd imply that you can't take your body to Heaven, only to the transitional area where Enma and Kaiou are, and that if you go on to Heaven, you'll experience something completely different, which I would leave to the imagination of the audience. Heaven, because I don't want people to assume that being dead is "just like being alive" and Hell because it's much scarier when it's unknown and could be as bad as you could possible imagine, and I want the idea of falling from the Serpent Road to be scary.
