I was hooked in when Toonami was showing the Cell Games (I think this was in 2000).

1998 I believe. Z started out for me as something my mom found on late at night when I was up, and she watched it with me. I was 3 at the time, so I don't have the clearest memories but my mother always remembers it being stuck on Namek when she caught it. I honestly don't remember Dragon Ball ever not being a part of my life thanks to that.
Re: What year did you guys became a DB fan?
Late 2001, I got into it properly then, when the Great Saiyaman arc was being first shown on CN in the UK.
But I do remember first being introduced to DBZ tn the Freeza arc back in '97/'98 when we got cable for a short while, I never actually got into it because I didn't seem to find the weirdly looking Saiya-Jin armor, funny looking alien type characters or the Nameks interesting, despite this being so long ago I faintly remember it was the episode where Gohan and Kuririn save Dende, I didn't really find it appealing at all even though the Namek/Freeza arc is now one of my best parts of the story.
Thinking back now I wish I had watched it from the start, I definitely would have begun watching it back then.

I believe it was during 1999-2000. My 2 years older step brother at the time got me into Toonami, as well as Pokemon, Digimon, and the rest. It was because we didn't have cable at my moms before, so I never knew of Cartoon Network until moving in with my step dad and bros. Only when I was at my dads house was I able to watch cartoons on Nickelodeon, since he did have cable. After that I watched Dragon Ball Z regularly, and even taped whole Toonami segments and watched them at my dads, lol. It was good times...

I became a Dragon Ball fan on the very same day it debuted on Portuguese television; lucky me, as I was at home watching TV when the first episode of the dub aired. I remember I had just started first grade, so it was probably Autumn 1995.

I stumbled across it entirely by accident in 2000.
I started watching it on Cartoon Network one day simply because there was nothing else on at that time (CN was my default channel when nothing else on interested me). It was the episode when Piccolo goes to Kami's palace to re-unite with him. I was hooked from that point on.

I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

1998, when I was the ripe old age of two. I think we just caught it on Toonami because my dad was already into the block, and we all watched most of Cartoon Network anyway. After that, I was hooked to both DB and Toonami.

2000-2001. I think they just finished the Cell Games saga, and started showing reruns from the Android to Cell Saga after. I know I've seen the Frieza saga before that.... but I wasn't into it before that.... because I was younger than 8 with the shortest attention span anyway.

I would say around 1996-ish didn't catch the first few episodes and when I did I thought Raditz was vegetas brother at first (the hair) lol I found out about it through my sister. Good days. I also loved catching the movies on Cartoon Network really late at night.
Re: What year did you guys became a DB fan?
I think it was after I played Budokai 1 at a friends house. It was sometime when I was in public school. I at least think that was my first view. I forgot about Dragonball and grew to like Sonic. Then I realized sometime later it was actually Dragonball I liked and not Sonic. After sometime it stopped airing on T.V., I caught back up watching filler cut episodes from adamdudeman on youtube. I had a mix of Funi and Ocean in Canada. So around 1999-2002 I think

Probably 1999.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

Re: What year did you guys became a DB fan?
It was when it first aired on TV here in Canada... It was back in 1997 me thinks. Haha, I cannot remember but I have an old picture of me with a DBZ T-Shirt back from 1998. I remember that all we had was that episodes took forever to air. Now that I think about it, the reason it might have taken forever was because I was young and impatient; YTV loved to air re-runs.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada
Re: What year did you guys became a DB fan?
Man I would watch those YTV re-runs. I have a hat with Goku on it the doesn't fit me anymore. I remember GT was on every Friday at 9:00pm while DB and DBZ aired at 8:00pm and 8:30 respectively. Now I barely use the TV besides gaming and am strictly internet. I miss the days when I enjoyed TV.Attitudefan wrote:It was when it first aired on TV here in Canada... It was back in 1997 me thinks. I think I must have been ten the first time I watched dragon ball z, with the horrible Ocean dub, so I've been a fan since 2002.

Re: What year did you guys became a DB fan?
I got hooked in 1996. I was in the fifth grade and a friend of mine had a babysitter that was chinese. He had bootlegged trading cards of DBZ and gave some to my friend.
I traded my friend some Marvel cards for some DBZ cards and it was all over from there. On my 8th birthday my mom and dad took me to China town in our city and I bought an official Japanese box of the DBZ card game. The old ocean dub was airing in Canada at the time of the Raditz portion of the Saiyan Saga. I remember seeing Piccolo give the Special Beam Cannon to finish off Raditz, taking Goku out as well and seeing the blood and thinking "Wow, this show is violent" lol.
Anyways, my love and knowledge just grew and grew from there. I'm nearly 27 and I still LOVE Dragon Ball. My wife thinks I'll "Grow up", but I keep telling her that I'll love Batman and DBZ till the day I die

Hmmm... it's been about ten years now, I know that much. However, if there's any one specific thing that got me hooked, it was the debut episode of Super Saiyan 3 on Toonami, when Goku first used it against Majin Boo. So if anyone can track down even a rough date for that...
