Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
Dragon Ball (Z) was my favourite cartoon as a child and it introduced me to anime without knowing it. Collecting all the cards, figures etc my dad looked up links of the movies. I had no idea they existed because naturally the only Dragon Ball DVDs we got here were about 2 or 3 oddly dubbed (Big Green) DVDs. So my dad buffers it up and lets me play and it's about Mr Satan holding a tournament and it's in Japanese and subtitled. And that's when I really became a fan of anime.
Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
I believe that yes... It is my favorite anime. The only other one that comes close is The Vision of Escaflowne.
1- Dragon Ball Z
2- Escaflowne
3- Dragon Ball
I could sit and watch them any day of the week.
Naruto used to be in my top 5, but I kinda stopped caring as much lately.

Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"

It was not any more. I eventually got bored of watching the same 291 episodes of 20 years ago.
South Park, Marco, Desert Punk, Shin-chan, Doraemon, etc.

Dragon Ball and Dragon ball z is definitely on my top list, or atleast top 5! Old school Turtles at its best is the best in my opinion, but db and dbz keeps high quality throughout its series without as many slipups as Turtles though. Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is also one of my all times favorite.

Yea, the thing about that is, you're not a kid anymore. Every generation says this about the previous generation. When you're a kid, cartoons, video games, movies, these are all a big part of your life. When you get older, not so much. Whatever you enjoyed as a kid would most likely stay with you into adulthood depending on how much you enjoyed those things. You're not in these cartoons demographic anymore and so it's totally normal for you to be turned off by what you see.AgitoZ wrote:Yeah, they do. Tons even.TheMightyOzaru wrote:They just don't make shows this good anymore.
With that said though, I'm a 31 year old and have nieces and nephews and sometimes have to watch what they watch. I do enjoy some of the shows actually, Adventure Time, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball... those some how keep me entertained even though I'm way out of it's demographic. Other shows like Johnny Test or Ben 10 I really can't stand. It's not that they're bad, the kids seem to love it. It's just... it's not for me, my time has past. Some people have a hard time realizing this phenomenon of not liking cartoons anymore, they think it's the cartoons that changed, when really it's them. Nothing wrong with that - circle of life, man.

I feel the same. I grew up in the 90's and I'm personally not into most cartoon now these days. I like the recent Batman show (Brave and the Bold, not The Batman) and the recent Avenger cartoons while I can't stand shows like Flapjack and Total Drama Island.

It's a favourite along with DB and DBGT (however I mainly watch Kai nowadays and Dragon Box for Boo arc). Also like Evangelion, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni/Kai, Azumanga Daioh, Studio Ghibli among other anime related shows/movies.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

@Gonstead and ringworm128: Is that Code Geass that good? I'm gonna have to check it out. I keep hearing about it.
I do think 90s cartoons are the best though, so you got a good point there.
I also watch Adventure Time and Regular Show (mainly Regular Show), and I dont even have nephews or nieces, lol. I just like good cartoons. However those are about the only new cartoons I can stand. I find the rest to be really annoying and nothing that would interest me.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Yea, the thing about that is, you're not a kid anymore. Oh, Dragon Ball is absolutely my favorite cartoon series. Doesn't necessarily mean I think it's the best ever, but Dragon Ball has had such a huge impact on my life that I can't imagine what I'd be like if I never got into it.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
Before it ended recently, I'd say thiswas one of the best current cartoons on tv, same with the new Thundercats. But like Tanooki said, as you get older you look more to te past and think not so much of current shows. My dad was the same, though I will say he was right that the 60s FF cartoon was better than the 90s one.TheMightyOzaru wrote:I've wanted to try Cowboy Bebop. Watch the new Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime, and tell me that they don't make 'em that good anymore.TheMightyOzaru wrote:DBZ is my favorite cartoon. They just don't make shows this good anymore.

As for DBZ being my favorite cartoon? 10 years ago, I probably would've said yes. But in that time span, I've seen plenty of anime that far surpass it in terms on quality. However, it will always be in my top 10, just because of the impact it's had on my life and creative pursuits. I'd have to my favorite cartoon ever is The Simpsons, mainly because it was a favorite even before I started watching anime, and still watch it frequently even now.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
Iv'e watched plenty of anime and stuff guys I just don't find it to be nearly as good as DBZ. There are good shows yes such as the Legend of Korra and the Regular Show but I just don't find them as good as DBZ. Korra is the closest and might be just as good when the 52 episodes are finally completed but until then I just don't think shows these days rival DBZ.

Re: DBZ a Favorite Cartoon?
I think I would go so far as to say DBZ is one of my favourites, considering how I was able to suffer through the season sets (back when I believed they would be the only way to get the complete series) as well as the Dragon Boxes and I was willing to triple dip with the Blu-ray Levels had they continued.
I'd certainly say I'm not as passionate about it to truly care whether "Saiyan" is pronounced perfectly or whether people spell Freeza with "EE" or "IE" and even though "Jinzō Ningen" is the original Japanese term, I would always use "Artificial Humans" or "Androids" if I was going to reference them. In a series as long as the Dragon Ball franchise, it's something to watch and enjoy (and checking out the Kanzenshuu podcasts, of course) and I don't see the point in ruining that enjoyment getting into pointless arguments about what's proper or better. I'll watch it with subtitles on if I want to know what I'm talking about when having a proper discussion about it. While I might watch an episode of Kai if it happened to be airing at the time, I'm not interested in it to the point of actively planning to watch it or buy the home release. I've already got the Dragon Boxes and the only way I would purchase DBZ again is if the entire DBZ (no bloody Kai) series was released on Blu-ray.
I'd have to say my favourites would be more along the lines of the Transformers cartoons, but even with those there are series which I wasn't a fan of for whatever reason and at least one which I actually hated. For my favourite Transformers series I would have to say the Sunbow cartoon of the 80s (having bought both the flawed Rhino DVDs and the excellent Shout! Factory release), Beast Wars and Transformers Prime. That is, of course, listed in chronological order of release and while the Sunbow cartoon would certainly be a nostalgic favourite, I would place it along with Prime at the top with Beast Wars close behind.
Of course, in the 80s you had such cartoons as Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, He-Man and the Maters of the Universe, its sister/sequel show She-Ra, Jem and quite a few others like M.A.S.K. and Dinosaucers and others which I will probably remember later. All in all, I treat age as just a number and not something which should define what is socially acceptable for a person to enjoy, so if a cartoon catches my interest (let's use TRON Uprising as an example) I'll check it out even if I am not in the target audience.
