Well, it's Tuesday in Japan; by now Julian should've been contacted. Since Kei didn't make it and said so, would Julian not saying whether or not he made it mean he did and they're waiting to reveal it on the podcast?

I remember when Greg was involved, he had to keep a lot of details about it secret, so we probably shouldn't ask too much of Julian until closer to the airing

This makes me think Julian definitely made the next round. X3medama_oyaji wrote:I remember when Greg was involved, he had to keep a lot of details about it secret, so we probably shouldn't ask too much of Julian until closer to the airing
If so, congratulations, Julian!
That's true, I do remember how secretive Greg had to be.

Re: Dragon Ball on Hokotate
Yeah, no news should be good news.
Greg certainly was obligated to keep things close to his chest until the program was broadcasted. So, if Julian does make it all the way to the program, then people get ready for a whole lot of teasing
Still, even if he passed the test, he still needs to go through a more personal interview if I remember correctly, and perhaps another test. I imagine the test was to see how much you knew about Dragon Ball, and the interview was to see if you're worth putting on TV
Anyways, my fingers are still crossed, and here's hoping for the very best!

Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...

If I remember right, during one of Greg's appearances they highlighted the One Piece Podcast; this means Kanzenshuu could conceivably be showcased on TV in Japan?
How interesting that would be. X3

Though I failed the auditions, it seems that I'm going to be invited as an audience.
Re: Dragon Ball on Hokotate
That's cool of them. You can watch it all happen live and in-person, but you don't have to worry about having the spotlight on you or having to do loads of studying.

Very cool! Is that an audience at the match itself or at the panel with the hosts?kei17 wrote:Though I failed the auditions, it seems that I'm going to be invited as an audience.
Re: Dragon Ball on Hokotate
Kei, if you don't mind me asking, why are/were you reluctant to appear on TV? Is it something related to Japanese fandom or 2ch cyberbullies?
Re: Dragon Ball on Hokotate
Both. I'm kind of hated by some Japanese DB fans for openly bashing Yamamoto's plagiarism and being a cause for Toei noticing it. There even used to be a cyberstalker searching for my identity.alakazam^ wrote:Kei, if you don't mind me asking, why are/were you reluctant to appear on TV? I dunno, but I never heard of fandom in this kind of sense anywhere in Europe and western world overall.
I understand how my friends in Japan were feeling funny about one of them watching Kamen Rider and the other said, that he liked Gundam once, but kids were making fun of him,
because he liked Zaku tank..... It took some time before they confessed. Still, thanks to Japanese nature, I don't have tips on some actually good J-drama for my GF to train her spoken Japanese....
(They surely don't want me to know, what they are watching, coz' it's like that + I'm foreigner)
Being westerner is like a curse when meeting Japanese people. Never had this trouble with other Asians.

Peking Duck said he too was a little reluctant to go on TV and also had been denigrated by name on 2ch before.
There's nothing called absolute ethics in Japan. They are polite and disciplined only under the state of mutual surveillance, so they become assholes when they're anonymous.

Re: Dragon Ball on Hokotate
From what I understand (having been told much the same thing as kei17), it's probably the former. They haven't provided any further details yet, though, and I probably shouldn't say too much. I went into a fair amount of detail about my experience thus far on this week's podcast, but I don't yet want to give away certain things when my involvement with the show isn't completely at an end.medama_oyaji wrote:Very cool! I believe it's referred to as "online disinhibition effect" (a.k.a. "the G.I.F.T.") in English, but it seems worse in Japan — perhaps it's because social norms in Japan are regulated more through shame (the disapproval of others) than guilt (one's own sense of doing something wrong)?kei17 wrote:There's nothing called absolute ethics in Japan. Re: Dragon Ball on Hokotate
I wonder how Hoko X Tate will go, and if Pekingdaq got to be one of the contestants.
If I'm reading Fuji TV's schedule right, it should be airing at 7:00pm (or 4 hours from now).
