How strong is SSjin Gogeta?

I don't have much reasons to justify this, except I remember a few translations of Vegetto referring to Gokuu as "Kakarotto" whilst Gogeta refers to him as "Gokuu".

That's only because Vegetto(himself) = Vegeta + Kakarrotto.

Even though they're of the same people, that doesn't necessarily make them the same strength. If you want to assume that the Potara fusion and the fusion dance works under the same formula, the fusion dance is going to be inherently inferior just because the two fighters have to synch up their battle powers. The two would have to be identical in strength before synching for the two fusions to work the same if they shared the same formula.

For example, let's just take the SEG's formula for Vegetto literally, that his strength is Goku times Vegeta.

The formula would be A x B = C

Goku's base we'll say is 9, and Vegeta's we'll say is 8

For the Potara fusion, 9 x 8 = 72

For the Fusion Dance, 8 x 8 = 64 (since Goku would need to drop his base to 8 to match Vegeta's)

This doesn't take into account the "rivalry boost" some like to attribute to the Potara fusion but obviously can't be quantified. Basically, the only way that Vegetto and Gogeta would be equal in strength is if Goku and Vegeta were exactly equal. Any difference in their strength, be it substantial or otherwise, would tip the scales in Vegetto's favor.

Agreed, I'm not sure why the having to lower your battle power weakens the fusion thing is always treated as a fact. It's a logical idea I suppose but it shouldn't be treated as anything more than a theory. My interpretation is that it was just needed for perfect symmetry and didn't affect anything after they were fused.

Indeed. That's what my view is as well. I don't see why the "Goku part" of Gogeta could not raise the ki again to maximize their entire strength.
