Could Tenshinhan have learned Kaiou-ken?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

What. Facts tell us that not everyone can learn this technique. Kaio himself has existed for at least 500 years and he never managed to master this technique that he invented.
But he did not spend 500 years learning it + maybe he just didn't have the talent to learn it.

The Z fighters do. Muten Roshi said that if someone wanted to learn the Kamehameha he must spend 50 years training, but we saw Yamcha, Ten and Krillin performing it just from seeing it once, and they learn it even faster than Goku!

So why can't they learn the Kaioken? They might spend years learning the Kaioken but the important thing is that they can learn it.

People in this thread are using facts. You are using "So why can't they learn the Kaioken?".

i.e. you are wrong.

What exactly is he wrong about? He presented a very clear example of a stated, "Man, it should take people years to ever learn this!" but the characters go right ahead and learn it right then and there. What makes Kaio-ken any different?

All I'm seeing is "Nuh uh!" / "Yeah huh!" and a lack of real discussion from the other side.

There is no relation between the two techniques, other than overusing it kills the user, but not in the same way. Kikoho uses the user's life-force, while the Kaio-ken destroys the body because it can't hold that much power.
What makes you say that? I've honestly always imagined, that, Kaiou-ken is stressful because it forces the rate of ki circulation throughout the body and probably makes cellular metabolism skyrocket. Completely baseless, I know, but I feel it's just as valid as the theory that the body simply can't contain the power. There is no muscle-mass increase from Kaiou-ken in the manga like with Freeza's 100% power of SSJ Grade II/ III from what I've seen.

When Goku used Kaio-ken x3 (which was more than his body could take), his body seems to have grown bigger.

Goku's body doesn't seem any bigger later when he used Kaio-ken x10 & x20, and since they didn't damage Goku's body like Kaio-ken x3 did back then, this draws me to the conclusion that if the user rises the Kaio-ken level too much, then his body will explode.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Just a dide note... but damn, the art is beautiful in that arc. It's like pseudorealistic. God, makes me dread the new art even more
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada
