No doubt, he got better over time but the clip of Yamcha fighting Kami wasn't bad by any stretch, at least not to me.

Well I like the old dub anyway but as soon as I saw the trailer for Part 1 of Z Kai and heard the emotion in the few audio clips within the trailer especially Krillin's "everyones dying and I don't know how to stop it" and Nappa's "that's more like it boy!" line I knew I was in for something bigger and better then the usual English DB experience.

I didn't intend to buy Kai when I first heard about it. If all it was going to be was DBZ but shorter and with a new dub, I didn't need to buy it since I watched the show in Japanese typically. However, after the first volume had been released for a couple weeks and I heard about the more accurate dub, I took the leap and bought it, and haven't regretted it one bit.

Same here, I never found Sabat's Yamcha voice to be unfitting or bad he just needed to tone down the "surfer dudeness." Then again I probably have a different standard for voice acting. My idea for a bad or terrible dub would be Megaman 8's dub or the Westwood dub at it's worst or whatever this is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU3Gg696yrM NSFW.

I'm one of the administrators of this forum, and the person who wrote the rules you agreed to (twice) prior to registration. Your posts are rude and poorly-written, and I am doing my job by pointing it out to you.

If you do not want to follow the rules, that's fine. You can find another community to be a part of, or you can continue to post poorly-written, rude posts and have strikes places against your account, which will eventually result in your account being banned.

This is your last free warning. It was written very bluntly for a reason.

Well, it made you laugh. Guess it's good for something. I think Hentai has such poor dubs because the distributors know that the buyers aren't looking for anything of high quality aside from the erotic scenes.

Well, if nothing else, your punctuation is somewhat lacking.

As for the topic, I felt that Funimation's actors finally "got it" around the Buu Arc. Of course they have improved a lot since then, but by that point practically all of the major voices were pretty good, IMO.

I doubt that the admins will agree. And you did agree to abide by their rules when you registered on this site. Is it really that hard to type properly?

Your grammar isn't terrible. It could use some touching up. (I'm not the most eloquent writer myself...) But I doubt you would get so much crap if you weren't so confrontational. We get it. Penquintruth annoys you. Chances are you'll meet plenty of people here, on other message boards, and in real life that annoy you. Sometimes you just gotta ignore them. Or at least debate them without taking things so personally.

If you didn't want to follow the rules why did you join in the first place? Also I'm reminded of a quote by Daimao that went something along the lines of
if you can't take your own comment seriously enough to put effort into it why should we take it seriously?

Sabat's Piccolo still sounded overly gruff through the Buu arc and redub seasons, oversaturated with that gruffness in a way where it becomes the sole texture of the performance. It's like listening to static. His Yamucha slipped into "Dude Yamucha" every now and then in Kai. He was like that throughout Z and in the DB dub. It's better, but still needs work. It continues to sound like a fill-in role, especially compared to the brilliant work Tohru Furuya does.

Sabat needed the most improving because he had the most roles and was pretty terrible as those characters throughout most of DBZ. But he did end up improving quite a bit.
Personaaly I think Sabat's Piccolo has always had that "no nonsense tough guy guy" vibe to it gravel or no gravel. And his UUE dub voice was well done IMO it sounded more natural but still with a hint of gruffness so it still sounded like Sabat's Piccolo. Though I've never understood why people bash Sabat's Piccolo for it's gruffness yet so many people praise McNeil's even tough his Piccolo pretty much sounds like a talking chainsaw.

Really? Because to me his Piccolo almost always sounded like he had severaaal POUnds of SSLEEeeeping pills before reCORding, at least in the Westwood dub. And then there was that CONstant, unchanging RHYTHm in the way he SPOke. Between that, and the sounds he makes in scenes like this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aAr2VaAltE

...yeah, he definitely got weird once Westwood came around  !

McNeil's Piccolo has a certain snarky, wild flair to it. It has a lot of personality.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfq5cIIB2Dw

Sabat's Piccolo was "filler demon guy voice #404595-B" until Kai.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q63sR7CwPxc

McNeil's is a lot more like Furukawa's:

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.
