I have to ask what the point of going SSJ was then? If they didn't think they needed to, why do it?

For the heck of it. This is the same movie that gave Gohan a Super Saiyan form just to make him fit in with the others.TheMightyOzaru wrote:I have to ask what the point of going SSJ was then? If they didn't think they needed to, why do it?

Fan boys. They jizz with anything with Super Saiyan in it. "On shit new ssj form called it's epic! Even through I haven't seen the movie nor SSG's character design".TheMightyOzaru wrote:I have to ask what the point of going SSJ was then? If they didn't think they needed to, why do it?
From a serious point of view:
Maybe the fighters thought more power?

If they wanted to give more power, then Gohan would go Super Saiyan 2 or Ultimate, and Vegeta Super Saiyan 2. Which is why I believe that the majority of them had to be Super Saiyans, plus, the fact that Shenlong mentioned the light & Super Saiyan God.TheGmGoken wrote:Maybe the fighters thought more power?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

The light meant pure hearten. But that makes a plot hole because Piccolo said Goku isn't pure cause he's an idiot who loves to fight and Trunks wanting to date at a young age. However Vegeta randomly becomes 100% pure cause he haven't done evil in long time and everyone argues about who's pure or not. There's a difference between Good and Pure. I think they did that for suspense and filler. Saiyan Super God had nothing to do with Super Saiyan IMO. The name was to attract people attention that's all. If I'm right the original SSG wasn't SSJ. But he was pure hearten and had 5 other pure people with him.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:If they wanted to give more power, then Gohan would go Super Saiyan 2 or Ultimate, and Vegeta Super Saiyan 2. I have to agree. Or else SSJ is apparently common as the good Saiyans would crush the others if they were all SSJ's.TheGmGoken wrote:The light meant pure hearten. Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

How so? GT is far more inconsistent. The only good to come out of GT was SSJ4 as far as I'm concerned.Saiga wrote:I don't think it's a whole lot better.TheMightyOzaru wrote:Still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than GTSaiga wrote:You're not alone, I think it's fucking terrible..

DBGT is not all that bad. It's only bad when compared to Db or Dbz. If DBGT wasn't a squeal everyone will at least enjoy it. I didn't even sense a-lot of hate for DBGT till 2010ish. Battle of Gods is not that much better then GT I agree. To me it seemed half ass. Battle of Gods is what GT would have been had Akira had more involvement in the project.Saiga wrote:I don't think it's a whole lot better.TheMightyOzaru wrote:Still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than GTSaiga wrote:You're not alone, I think it's fucking terrible..

I tried viewing it as if it were it's own series but even then I have problems with it. In fact I would really love it if I could find the Japanese episodes because I remember those being decent. I'm stuck with the funimation dub.

If you have the money just buy the dvds. Not fair to go by the english dub while Funimation was still being weird with Db franchise. True DBGT dub(english) was still much more accurate then dbz. Some times they were still way off from original source. Why don't you watch the Blue Water dub?TheMightyOzaru wrote:I tried viewing it as if it were it's own series but even then I have problems with it. GT is better than BoG because it's easier to dismiss its retardation. Also moostache.

Re: Am I the only one with thinks Battle of Gods isn't that
Well, I will admit I was a tad disappointed after reading Kanzenshuu's summary the first time, but I've really warmed up to it.
When you consider what had happened to the franchise over the previous couple of years, they really couldn't be overly ambitious with this film, so they played it fairly safe- and "safe" is probably the word I'd use to describe this film. I pretty much see this movie as a feel-good, 85 minute romp where you can enjoy being with the characters and come out all smiles. I don't think it's something that's meant to be picked apart and analyzed, scene-by-scene. It's just an hour-and-a-half of enjoying Toriyama's universe and from what I've read on Japanese blogs, it made for a great day out with family or friends and it sounds like the voice actors, writers and everyone else thoroughly enjoyed working on this project too.
I'm tempted to call it the feel-good movie of the year.
Sure this movie isn't deep, with high-stakes fight scenes and shocking character revelations, but it didn't have to be. And either way, the film still wasn't as predictable as many would have thought (that ending, I did not see it playing out the way it did). I know this followed a similar formula to the Jump Super Anime Tour Special, but there's something about the simple fact that this is a movie for cinemas. And in terms of emotion, I think the end credits certainly delivered what the film didn't.
To quote Julian, "if you don't come away from this with a big smile, I think you may need o re-examine your priorities." Of course, I haven't seen the movie yet so what do I know?
Oh, and on a side not...I'm still disappointed with Whis. There has to be more to him!

@GmGoken No, GT is bad no matter which way you look at it. You can't really treat it as separate from Dragon Ball/Z because it relies on DB/Z as its backstory. It is a godawful cartoon.
@Ozaru I can't think of anything good that came out of Battle of Gods. And the biggest advantage BoG has over GT is that it's short, which means it has less time to make as many contradictions and fuck ups as GT did.

That's your opinion Saiga. I for one think DBGt is at least average. Bad sequel yes. But decent show. The only good thing BoG did was make all the fanboys jizz. Seriously to all dbz fanboys(I mean extreme fanboys) just because it's a New Dbz animation since 2008 that features Goku as a main character or since 1995 that had a major serious plot doesn't make it the best thing that happen to dbz. I see people say this was better then every saga, best moment ever, or badass. Let's not forgot that BoG just killed every good thing about Freeza. I thought it was all badass and one of the best anime villains ever till BoG came up randomly and said "Freeza was just working for Birshu". To me that killed it. It made Freeza destroying the Planet Vegeta cause of fear completely irrelevant. I think Birshu ask "Did Freeza destroy Vegeta yet?". This pissed me off because it ruins a-lot of scenes in the Freeza saga such as the following:Saiga wrote:@GmGoken No, GT is bad no matter which way you look at it. Dodoria telling Vegeta why Freeza destroyed Namek.
The entire Bardock Special and OVA
Vegeta's death
Filler scene of Goku seeing King Vegeta,Vegeta, and Bardock
Goku SSJ Speech
A-lot of Freeza's dialog when fighting Goku and Vegeta.

When was it ever said that Freeza was working for Beerus, other than fan speculation in the lead up to the film?TheGmGoken wrote:Seriously to all dbz fanboys(I mean extreme fanboys) just because it's a New Dbz animation since 2008 that features Goku as a main character or since 1995 that had a major serious plot doesn't make it the best thing that happen to dbz. Oh, and it seems like you're pissed off because a new villain came along and made Freeza look like a small fry in the grand scheme of things; but isn't that what happened for half of DBZ with the introduction of Trunks, Kaioshin, the Artificial Humans and Cell?
By the way, "Birshu"? Never, ever seen that spelling before.
Re: Am I the only one with thinks Battle of Gods isn't that
There's a difference between new enemies coming along and trumping Freeza (which I have no problem with) and someone just being there all along and dwarfing him (which I DO have a problem with). Even Boo had been sealed away long before Freeza's time, and Kaioshin/Dabra come from separate realms. Beers was active and actually hanging around the Universe, which I don't like at all.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:

As much as you like t go on and say you know the story simply by watching it, you sure do have a lot of misconceptions. Freeza never worked for Beers.
Beers was asleep =/. I guess the thing that annoys you is the fact that Beerus was intending to go kill Freeza at some point after he woke up, and would've done so easily- if it hadn't been for the fact that Freeza had already been killed.
It almost seems like a bit of a throw-away scene in the final film. I'm guessing it would've had a lot more relevance in some of the earlier scripts.
Yeah, reminds me of this horrible, horrible review from a guy who claimed to have seen the film when he clearly hadn't.TheMightyOzaru wrote:As much as you like t go on and say you know the story simply by watching it, you sure do have a lot of misconceptions. Freeza never worked for Beers.
