I again have to say, and again preface it by saying I don't really mean to be rude, but pretty much all of the suggestions so far are bad if not terrible ones. They've been tried. They don't work, especially here.
These days I'm even leaning toward a school of thought of pretty much silent moderation with nameless admin accounts. I kinda just wanna go full out stealth moderation mode. It doesn't matter who the admins are or who they are. More post deletions. You post crap, it's gone. You get into a petty argument, your posts are gone and your accounts are revoked in their entirety. No more polite rule reminders. Shit's way past the point of critical mass. Histrionic bullshit never sees the light of day once it's caught because we just get rid of it. Sounds great.. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Things that make the administration and moderation team do work on the forum takes away from us working on content, producing new content, editing old content, etc. If we can just delete the crap and move on with our day without pulling the child communication nonsense... well, that sounds great.
In short, be careful what you wish for.

No disrespect but not everyone was around when they was "tried". Some of these users started in 2013. How can you expect them to know about something that happen before 2012.I again have to say, and again preface it by saying I don't really mean to be rude, but pretty much all of the suggestions so far are bad if not terrible ones. You don't personally need to have been there when off-topic conversations were tried, when polls were tried, etc. The fact is that they were, and that kind of conversation flow and community management didn't work with the type of establishment that's been bred here.
No sense to implement something again that doesn't work just because younger people show up.

I was just saying. You wrote as if everyone was here already. Also I'm not saying you're wrong but for all you know. One thing might work for one batch of users but not work for the older batch of users. Would't be the first nor last time it happen.VegettoEX wrote:You don't personally need to have been there when off-topic conversations were tried, when polls were tried, etc. The fact is that they were, and that kind of conversation flow and community management didn't work with the type of establishment that's been bred here.

I'm all for stricter moderating. It becomes tiring when a thread becomes about the poster, rather than the subject. It's just silly, petty, and saddening. I make use of the report button a lot, which is a life-saver, but it can't be easy on the team, either.

When a poster posts something inflammatory and a legion of users post in reply to try to criticize that user for what was obviously just a ploy to get attention. The thread is no longer about the actual topic but about trying to give that user grief for a perceived slight.TheGmGoken wrote:What does that mean?JulieYBM wrote:I'm all for stricter moderating. Tighter moderation to nip prolonged drama in the bud is ideal.

Re: If you could improve 1 thing on Kanzenshuu.
I've not been here particularly long but it seems there's been an influx of particularly argumentative members. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, in fact, good debate is obviously the key part of a forum like this but there's been many instances where it's more like playschool arguments with little backing than a rich conversation.
Not entirely sure what can be done about this aside from far stricter moderation and/or private warnings to remember this is a place, as the rules describe, for substantial conversation to flourish: -

I've felt this has been quite slack as of late and would love some tighter moderation on this front. This is a great community and usually a stimulating place for conversation so I would hate to see that ruined by a few members. No matter what the subject matter, we simply ask that our members bring as much substance to the conversation as possible in as well-written a way as possible.

Re: If you could improve 1 thing on Kanzenshuu.
I suggested more moderators since it would allow the staff to continue their work on the website more instead of addressing forum disruption.
Stricter moderation and/or the "silent moderation" what VegettoEX suggested would also work.

Re: If you could improve 1 thing on Kanzenshuu.
I don't particularly want to call anyone out by name, so I'll try to provide a clearer explanation of the point I was attempting to make. When a user enters an otherwise innocuous thread, posts something that riles up the village, and the topic swings entirely toward discussing that user and or his manner of participating in the community I think there is a definite problem that the leaders of the community need to deal with. Mike, bless his heart, has always been the big fuzzy bear who hates to get really bear-like. In my seven years on these forums I do not believe I could recall a hand's worth of users Mike has dropped the ban-hammer on. Quite frankly, with our community growing and becoming further prominent as a representation of the fandom and a source of information more liberal use of the Klingon pain-sticks is becoming necessary.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote: Y'mean something like this thread here?

I would actually ease up the "we need conversation" thing. It just comes off as really elitist and there isn't even more conversation then other forums so it also comes off as pointless too.

Re: If you could improve 1 thing on Kanzenshuu.
I'm OK with someone who doesn't want to add to a conversation thinking that adding to a conversation is elitist. If you define it as "wanting it to be better than other things", then sure, yeah. Elitist.ringworm128 wrote:It just comes off as really elitist
And I'm also OK with someone thinking whatever they want to think about that explanation of the explanation.

Re: If you could improve 1 thing on Kanzenshuu.
Maybe it's just me, and if so that's fine, but I find it very awkward (and, well, rude) to give unsolicited advice to people on their projects/property/work. The staff has in the past, and will in the future, ask for suggestions on aspects of Kanzenshuu and its extensions when and if they feel the time is right (and they are in a position to facilitate suggestions, and aren't hard at work on projects at hand). Again, maybe that is just me.
One thing I'll say has been *great* about the site lately is the Recently Edited Pages section at the bottom of the main site. Really enjoyed following the more frequent minor edits, and where they're popping up in all corners of the site.

Totally, I love checking that thing out. Of course, it can be hard telling just what was changed on a page, though!SSj_Rambo wrote:One thing I'll say has been *great* about the site lately is the Recently Edited Pages section at the bottom of the main site. Re: If you could improve 1 thing on Kanzenshuu.
If people really want off-topic chat, then there's always IRC (or the Skype group, PM if you're interested
). Still, and I think I've said this before, but I'm glad there's no off-topic section. This is the only forum I know of that is still as alive, active, and fun to post on as it was 7 years ago when I joined. I'm positive that not having an off-topic section is a part of that (Along with members/staff/and there always being some kind of new DB-related thing to talk about).
I was going to make a thread, but it may be better to ask here: Is there a way to give us notifications when we're quoted by someone? I'm a member on a forum where, whenever someone quotes us or @mentions us, we get a notification. This isn't a necessary feature, but sometimes I feel like I may have forgotten to reply to someone, or like I've missed someone replying to me. Would it be possible to implement a feature like that?

Re: If you could improve 1 thing on Kanzenshuu.
I'd love to see these dead forums because all the forums I've seen that have GD's are still very active.
Zelda Universe Forums: Older then Kanzenshuu and more active.
Smash World Forums: Older then Kanzenshuu and WAAAAAY more active.
Evageeks forums: About the same age and just as active.
Vocaloid Otaku Forums: Much newer but still just as active.
Serebii.net: Fairly old and more active.
And that's just what I can think of from the top of my head.
