The funimation dub is the only thing that said Goku could beat Boocollo...but the Japanese version does not say that...like hlev said...why bother mentioning Gohan if he could beat him now.

I see it as Goku wasn't really needed after all. He's disappointed because they went through all the trouble of bringing him back to life and the potara, just for Boo to defuse. Then there's the fact that the plan was to turn Boo back into the fat one as said by Goku, and the fact that they said only fusion would beat Super Boo....size was never mentioned until later.

Also the fact that if Gotenks wasn't at least stronger than Majin Vegeta on his debut...then Goku was going to get his sons killed after he was so confident they could beat Boo that they wouldn't need the ROSAT to prepare, and Majin Vegeta=SSJ2 Goku.

Which seems to be the only optional interpretation, based on later evidence:

• Goku said that he & Vegeta didn't stand a chance against Evil Boo, except if they were to merge.
• After Gohan Boo reverted to Evil Boo, he said "We are almost there", and after Evil Boo reverted to Pure Boo he said "We did it! This way, we might be able to manage something", which means that their goal was to weaken Boo so that they will be able to manage something.

Vegeta wanted to use the Genki Dama not because Gohan & Gotenks wouldn't be strong enough, it was because he wanted the Earthlings to take responsibility for once and save their asses with their own power instead of the help of others.

And no, just because Gohan gave his power doesn't mean that the Genki Dama was stronger than him. What they were donating was genki, which is a part of ki (according to Toriyama, ki is composed by things like genki (energy), yuuki (bravery), and shouki (ones true character). Kaioshin couldn't teleport because he had donated all of his genki, meaning that his ki was unusable because of the lack of genki. Besides, Gohan wasn't powered-up into his Ultimate state, and Goten & Trunks didn't turn into Super Saiyans or SS3 Gotenks, meaning that when it comes to genki, battle powers don't matter.

Again none of it matters cuz of how Toriyama decided to write the ending...Goku is Numba One!

Vegeta wasn't talking about who the strongest in the universe is, his monologue is all about his rivalry with Goku. He always believed that he was the only one that deserved to be #1, because he was the Saiyan Prince, a super-elite that managed to surpass the King, the strongest Saiyan, in his childhood years, while Goku was a low-class warrior. But now, he finally accepted that Goku is a fighting genius above him, and the superior one from the 2. Meaning that between Goku & Vegeta, Goku is the #1, not Vegeta.

It's South Kaioshin Boo - a form of Pure Boo with South Kaioshin absorbed (the bulky one). Both Dai Kaioshin & (a few seconds later) South Kaioshin powers were transfered to Mr. Boo, so Pure Boo no longer had the power of South Kaioshin. This is when Goku & Vegeta realized that they've made it - they powered Boo down so that SS3 Goku can now kill him.

And as for on topic, South Kaioshin Buu is the really bulked-up Buu that forms briefly when Mr. Buu is ripped out. The Old Kaioshin goes on to say that this Buu is the one that Pure Buu became after absorbing South Kaioshin.
