Would you be more forgiving towards the dub if....

To be fair, the whole "mercy towards Vegeta" thing does actually sort of tie in to Goku's attitude in the Freeza saga. I'm not saying it was right for them to change the dialogue during that scene, but I don't necessarily think that it was out of character for Goku.

The 2005-7 redub was far from horrendous, sure it was nothing groundbreaking but they had clearly improved. Just look at Schemmel, when they switch back to the 99 dub it's beyond jarring.

It wasn't that big an improvement. Now, Sabat's Vegeta, that improved with the redub. But he probably had the most need to improve.

Vollmer's Bulma stayed uniformly shrill and stilted.

He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Frankly, I'd be less forgiving in this case, because editing out the crappier lines is nothing compared to what we got with Kai.

Sure, I'd love to see that redub effort put to every bit of the series and have the old dub moved to a nice farm upstate, but that's either not going to happen, or at least not going to happen in the next decade.

Kai gave us many of the old cast with a decade of experience under their belt, which did wonders alone, add to that several good new additions to the show (Chris Ayres as Freeza being a high point among those), a far superior script, far better voice direction, and keeping the music they were given, and it's a damn good result we've gotten (and hopefully will continue to get into the Buu Saga and all future movie/special dubs).

I'm over the old dub completely, because I have the Japanese side for Z, and the English side for Kai. I'm satisfied with my voices and releases now (Dragon Box and Kai sets).

There's definitely a big difference between green Schemmel and redub Schemmel.
