I think that's one of few things that bugged me about the the movie. The Japanese government even contributed money to the film's production, and it was still filled with countless moments that just looked awful. They didn't even need a huge budget to make it look good, and even when they got one, it still looked amateurish. Really hoping they step their game up on the next one.Attitudefan wrote:It does. And not all digital looks like that, it can look fantastic on a budget.Zephyr wrote:As much as I'd like to the series reanimated to be in a uniform art style, I would hate for it to be the current artstyle. It looks so plastic.

The only parts that looked awful, IMO, were some of the CGI scenes, especially the water droplets scene. They could have made that look so much better with traditional animation.

Re: Series Recap in Extended BoG
Part of the appeal to me for Dragon Ball is Toriyama's unique art-style, and I think the reason the animation never looks as good is because it's always a uniform style that can be emulated easily by a team of animators, and his style is constantly changing and evolving. Clearly that is the case for this movie as well, as much as I'd love it Toriyama is not going to draw every single frame in a feature length movie!!! Perhaps a standardized style that more closely emulates his current style would be preferable, and I would certainly appreciate it, but it probably won't happen now that it's been established in BotG. Consistency 'n' all that...

Actually, Madhouse and Studio Chizu did that one.Toei, if I'm not mistaken, produced Wolf Children, and that animation was such a throwback to the titles of old.

If Mad House were to take DBZ... My head would explode. I've been watching Hunter x Hunter 2011, and goddamn the animation is great.

That does not mean the production values would be high. The production committee decides how good a work will ultimately be, not the studio used.DarkPrince_92 wrote:If Mad House were to take DBZ... My head would explode. I've been watching Hunter x Hunter 2011, and goddamn the animation is great.

It's not a crusade against digital animation, it's just that the artwork is bad. The jump anime tour special in 2008 for Dragon Ball looked awesome.
