 Yeah, I'm mostly poking fun at some of the strange spots FUNI cut off the sagas. Granted, all of them have a reason (The Namek Saga ending is the only one not to have a story reason, but rather a dub/music/production reason). The Season cutoffs in DB however had no rhyme or reason.

Sorry to jump in on this really, really late, but you're so right about the Raditz thing. So much more could've been made of him, but to be honest, this is the case for so many Dragon Ball characters in my opinion. Characters like Zarbon and Jeice, and hundreds more, who I wish we'd seen more of, immediately spring to mind.

I never really appreciated it though, because when it first aired in the UK I was about 9 or 10 years old and I probably can't remember my feelings, but now I think back, he was a solid character.

I specifically remember when we used to "play" Dragon Ball Z at break times at school, we had Raditz somehow surviving the second Special Beam Cannon and actually becoming a Z Fighter! Obviously a bit of a silly storyline, but if 9 year olds thought that highly of a character who only appeared in a few episodes that they'd bring him back and turn him into a good guy, he must've done something right!
Z-Fighters fan.

Goku, Yamcha, Krillin, Tien, Chiaotzu, Yajirobe, Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Android 18, Goten, Trunks and Majin Buu.

All of Funi's weird "season"/"saga" divisions were done for DVD packaging reasons. The more portions they can cut the story into, the more and smaller box sets they can make, which means each box set will sell for less, which again means people are more likely to make impulse buys. It made a lot of sense back in the 3-episodes-per-DVD singles era.

Hmm, that makes sense now that I think about it. It still seems weird that the range is literally anywhere between 7 and 35, though. The Vegeta Saga is the longest, with the Captain Ginyu and Super 17 Sagas tied for shortest.

Not really.

"The Vegeta Saga" doesn't really exist. The original home release of this set of episode was the cut-into-an-American-season version of 8 DVDs containing a total of 25 episodes. When Funi went back and redubbed it and released it uncut, they split it into "The Vegeta Saga I" and "The Vegeta Saga II", the latter starting with Vegeta and Nappa landing on Earth, which would've been 7 and 5 DVDs respectively.

"The Captain Ginyu Saga" is just "all the stuff that's not actually the battle against Freeza", which is the only real place they could make a cut in this set of episodes. Including these episodes in "The Frieza Saga" would've made that set a total of 12 DVDs, way way too much. This saga didn't even get a box set release, and its enormous length was probably the reason behind that.

"The Super 17 Saga" definitely doesn't exist. Dragonball GT was released in single volumes with no division beyond "Dragonball GT" and "Dragonball GT - The Lost Episodes", and the box sets just had 5 DVDs each. Box 3 happens to contain the entire dragon arc, but that was more of a lucky coincidence than anything.

Stuff makes sense when you look at how these things were actually released rather than what some Internet site tells you the "sagas" are named.

The same happens on the Japanese version with the flashbacks to Z during Vegeta's reminiscing episode near the end of GT. It's weird... a LOT.

Good to know I'm not alone in this. I am of course by no means implying that they should switch to the older score there or anything, that'd be even weirder. It's just kind of surreal in a way. Yeah, let's see.....there's.....

JP
-Kikuchi scenes with Tokunaga music

US
-Kikuchi scenes with Johnson, Faulconer, or Menza music
-Johnson scenes with Faulconer or Menza music
-Faulconer scenes with Menza music

Kai
-Kikuchi scenes with Sumitomo music

On another note, is anyone else bothered by the fact that everyone seems to have forgotten that Goku is in fact dead? Vegeta yells "DIE!" at one point in the fight. Team Four Star is going to have so much fun with this.

To clarify, the only movies I've seen are the 4 DB ones, which I saw directly after finishing DB, but before starting Z. Likewise, I'll see the Z Movies after I finish the Z series. Yes, that means I saw the Garlic Jr. Saga without having seen Dead Zone. I did already know the general gist of it, though.

The one you're referring to is Fusion Reborn, and I can imagine the movies where Goku is still dead probably handle this even weirder.

They actually directly address what you just brought up... meaning you're essentially just asking Team Four Star to recycle a joke the series already did hilariously well before they had presumably even heard of it. :P

And I'm back watching Dragon Ball Z, having now started the Majin Buu Saga. A few notes follow.

-Mr. Satan certainly never keeps anything from his fans. 8)

-Buu's antics are a joy to watch! The great thing about him is how unpredictable he is.

-Vegeta will see Goku in Hell. First curse in a while.

-Trunks apparently broke Piccolo.

-All this friction between Buu, Babidi, and Dabura is interesting to see in action.

-A little late note here, that part of the ED animation with Gohan running with his mouth wide open is hilarious for some reason. Especially with this song playing.

I've just finished the Buu saga, probably about the third or fourth time I've watched DB & DBZ all the way through in my lifetime (not sure if I'm going to watch DBGT or the movies next though!).

Not wanting to spoil anything for VD so I won't say much, but what a brilliant saga it is. There is just so much going on all at the same time, you don't know where to look. A lot of great characters heavily involved as well. A very good end to the series.
Z-Fighters fan.

Goku, Yamcha, Krillin, Tien, Chiaotzu, Yajirobe, Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Android 18, Goten, Trunks and Majin Buu.

I have no issue with spoilers, as I'm not going into this blind. I already know the general idea of what happens later. Just not the details or when and how these things happen.

And now Vegeta's dead and Babidi's been healed. Some notes.

-Dabura turned into a cookie was an interesting sight. :D

-Everyone just forgets about the Supreme Kai, but I think that was intentional.

-I'm starting to catch up to where Kai is at the moment.

-Babidi really seems to have Buu wrapped around his thumb here. He's lasted longer than one would expect watching this.

-Buu's voice got deep in a freaky way when using his "Big Power" as he called it, although only when he spoke. His laughs and screams were still the usual high-pitched sound.

People forget about the kai... because he's useless. his presence never made any situation better. In fact, if he didn't show up at all, I feel like the Z Warriors would have fared better, despite them having lack of knowledge on Buu.

Anyway, I don't really think Babidi ever had Buu "wrapped around his finger", it was more like he was in control of a misbehaved child... at the moment. And I'm sure Buu was determining how to get around Babidi's seal spell for majority of their time spent together.

On the voice, I think Josh Martin was trying to imitate his japanese counterpart where Buu's voice would hit that low demon-like note. Despite how people feel about Josh Martin as Fat Buu, I think he nails it.

Well, I can say I love Josh Martin's Buu so far! :D
It sounds very appropriate for the childish being he is. His dialog works well with it, too.

The "Me gonna eat you up!" song was great. It seemed like the music was sort of going with it, too.

Vegeta's sacrifice was handled well, in my opinion. The calm ambience theme (Not sure what to call it, but it's been around since the Ginyu episodes) when hugging Trunks actually worked regarding the neutral and uncertain mood here. And Hell's Bells got it's greatest moment when Vegeta finally goes down.

Of course, this just begs the question....What exactly did Vegeta do? He's turned to stone afterwards, but where did he get this ability?

Also, interesting that he seemed to care about Gohan to a certain degree. Those two have been at odds, but it would seem he hasn't really hated him since Namek. Piccolo also holds respect for Vegeta, going as far as calling him an old friend.

And Babidi is awesome for surviving that blast Vegeta made. 8)

I think Vegeta used up every last drop of energy, his life energy in an attempt to destroy Buu. It probably left an empty shell of a body afterwards, maybe... I don't know. I'm saying things.

Ok, seen a few more episodes now. I'm at the point where Goten and Trunks are going to learn the Fusion technique and Babidi and Buu are running amok. The usual notes follow.

-Videl, completely out of the blue, says to herself that she loves Gohan after hearing about his death. She also refers to him dying before they had a chance together (again, to herself, but she was clearly in earshot of the others). Where did this come from? There's no sign of this beforehand from either her or Gohan. Just her father's paranoia and teasing from Goku, Bulma, Krillin, Chi-Chi, and Goten.

-Seeing Yamcha do stuff is nice. :D Also, of note, Master Roshi lets out a BIG ONE. This was way bigger than the one in the General Blue Saga... "I'm sorry, world..."

-Finally, Dende and Goku actually lampshade the fact that the latter is in fact dead. :D

-Dabura's voice in the flashback sounds a bit different. Actually, this seems to be a problem with the dub in general but I can't find out why here, since he was around just a few episodes ago. The most notable inconsistency in a past flashback would be Zarbon having a weird accent for the scene of the three Saiyans reporting to them.

-That cake shop employee who stood up to Babidi is the most badass character in the entire series. Yes, even more so that the Farmer With Shotgun
