I agree with clutchins, I'd love a set with the complete DBZ series in it's original english broadcast, that's how i grew up watching the series and i'm sure that's how a lot of others did too. That way if you watch the show chronologically the voices/music and their gradual changes feel really organic. The original voices main characters had in the Ocean dub suited them early in the series and the voices they had in the Funi dub suited them later in the series as they emotionally grew as characters. Drummond's Vegeta for example suites small, maniac Vegeta. Sabat's Drummond imitation suites Vegeta in the middle of the series and his gruff voice suites Vegeta at the end. Mcneil's Piccolo also suites him earlier in the series when he was still a bit evil prior to fusing with Nail and Kami. I just hate how Funi tried to rewrite history by redubbing the first two seasons and redubbing bits and pieces later in the series. Now if you buy all nine orange bricks most of the characters pretty much have the exact same voice in every episode.

I'd also like a release which features the Shuki Levy score as an option on episodes that originally didn't feature it since i'm in the minority that absolutely loves that score. I thought a release like "Rock the Dragon" which features the score would of been impossible since i was under the impression Saban owned that music and Funi was too cheap to pay royalties, but apparently they either are the ones that own the music, or were able to fork up some cash. It would also be cool to see the later post-Saban Ocean dub episodes released, although that will probably never happen unless Funi are at the point where they've milked the series completely dry and need some quick cash.

My dream release (though within what I see as realistic parameters i.e. if Toei could financially justify an HD remaster, this is what they could do). I've listed them in order of priority.

1. Level Set picture quality, 1080p Blu-ray -adjust to mitigate the crushed blacks.
2. Broadcast Japanese audio - obtained from existing Betamax recordings.
3. All opening and endings included - I can't believe I have to ask for these, but we've been miffed before.
4. Include all the obscure specials: Goku's Traffic Safety, Goku's Fire Brigade, ect
5. Next Episode Previews
6. Include the Faulconer music - I sometimes feel nostalgic for the Americanized soundtrack.

Now for a COMPLETELY unrealistic request:

7. Funimation re-dub of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT
Favorite Movies: Alien, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, The Thing, Evil Dead, The Land Before Time
Favorite Shows: Cardcaptor Sakura, Doctor Who, Wallace and Gromit, Wakfu, Yu Yu Hakusho
Favorite Manga: Fullmetal Alchemist, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Ball

My perfect release is probably only perfect to me because it is not logically based at all, it's just what I like and it would be a jumbled mess.
My perfect release would have a mixture of the ocean and funimation voices. It would be the funi dub but with ocean voice actors for Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, Piccolo, Kami, popo, and Frieza. Voices like ocean Vegeta and Piccolo would be ocean for the whole series. The whole series would be uncut, have Bruce Faulconer music and it would be released on VHS in volumes.
The Dragon Boxes are perfect for the japanese version for me.

Since Funimation has had a million different releases at this point and the Dragon Boxes are available for the original Japanese I'de take a proper Ocean release. It won't happen but whatever, I can dream.

To differentiate from just a standard DBZ release have an introductory disc with a full documentary on it for newcomers and provide much needed insight for old fans on the history of English dubs across US/UK/Canada. This would go into detail about the reasons behind the divergent dubs and would include interviews with people involved in the production of the Saban dub and westwood dub such as the voice actors, casting directors, directors and whoever else they can get.

Since the RTD set has been released already you don't need to include the Saban episodes on here or the Pioneer movies but the documentary would still cover it all and perhaps even briefly mention Funimation's early venture into in house dubbing to bridge the gap in history.

Finally you'de have the westwood dub episodes on however many remaining discs with perhaps some classic TV promos thrown in as extras, some outtakes (if they still have any), a music CD of the complete soundtrack and finally as as easter egg on the final disc... (drumroll) a trailer for the Ocean dub of DBZKai.

I would like a release with all of the NEPs and Recaps. Because I'm nostalgic, I would also like all of the American NEP's. The GT season sets had the songs dubbed, so I would like the same for the series, including the insert songs when possible. Hell, I would even look back at the old season 3 dub so if they could include that but without any of the redub from the season sets. I wouldn't mind having the redub, but on another audio track.

I'm a big special features buff so, here's a few things off the top of my head:
20-30 minute feature about the ocean dub, including bits about the decision process that went into deciding what got cut and why they ended it when they did. I've always wanted to know why they ended it in the middle of DBZ episode 67.
A video on the history of the DB in America. There's something on FUNi's DBZ website, so something like that. I'd also like a small bit that explained why the hell the home video releases were in such a convoluted order.
A feature on the in-house dub.

My perfect DBZ release would be:

Level Sets Video Quality (No crushed blacks though)
Japanese Broadcast Audio
Japanese titlecards

I don't really care that much about NEPs, they're cool but I usually avoid watching them when watching the series.
thomas1up are fuckin terrible and need to fuck off asap all the other noobs are decent thouhg

Something else I'd want in a perfect release is re-animating the scenes where the key animations are terrible and inconsistent.

Example:

How Trunks looks at the beginning of Kai episode 56

...and at the end of the episode

Thats what happens when you have a wide variety of various animators working on the same show.

I was just thinking that exact same thought

I always assumed it was because the show wasn't pulling in ratings/merchandise revenue for Saban. They were the ones that pulled the plug on it by ending financial support, probably so they could focus on other shows. I think disagreements about censorship with them and FUNimation may have also had something to do with it.

I get why any show gets cancelled. My question is why in the middle of an episode? Did they have a longer episode order that got cancelled due to Saban not being happy with the numbers, did they intentionally end it there, did FUNi originally intend the end of the season to be the end of the Captain Ginyu Saga?
